sorry but i heard a lot abt the dog bros and to be honest im dioppointed! iv had a better fight gettin my socks on lmao :P besides mma is the way forward :) xx
I think the tricky part about knives are deciding whether or not to grapple against them depending on your own weapon(s). I wonder if using a single tonfa in the right hand and using your left hand to grab your enemy's arm would be more effective, as you would immobilize the knife and free your right tonfa for offense.
I wonder what would happen if the Mae sowks guy had trained in Craftys Dog catcher material. Seems like they would make a good shield that could explode into some nasty hammerfist elbow and forearm strikes?
What a very interesting observation R87 ;-) Coincidentally enough Tricky Dog (that's him with the Mae Sowks) and I went over some ideas when I was giving a seminar in Seattle for the next time he goes with Top Dog in this match up. I was there when this fight happened and found the questions presented quite intriguing and Tricky found them interesting. If all goes according to schedule, he will be there at my next seminar in Seattle in a few weeks and we can explore them more.
@DBMAVIDS Thank you. I'm a huge fan of DBMA and own most of your dvds. Hard to get people to go nuts with where I live (east coast of the UK), but I try to train your stickwork as much as I can to compliment my BJJ since MMA just doesn't seem as honourable as your set up. I hope to get over there and see you someday. DLO is the mutts nutts m8. I used to work the door and DLO was an intrinsic part of my skill set. Hope you're good, maybe catch you around someday
Very intersting combination. I would try to take the knife otherway, because the Tonfa Fighter has limited reach. But I think he could block a knife stab very effective for counter attack. I think I will test it myself to figure out what knife stance is better for me. But anyway...nice vid.
@DerSpartaner not a tonfa, theeir mae sowks. a tonfa is different.
mae sowks are like forearm guards basically. they cover the whole outer part of the forearm and are made of very hard wood, they also have a forearm strap to ensure they dont come off. they do have a handle like a tonfa, but they have 2 of them where as a tonfa has only one.
@DerSpartaner Different weapons different uses, ones a bludgeon and the other a hack stab n' slasher.
If your looking for advice or one of the best knife stances, look at prison yard rushes, and knife related homocides in prison - theres absolutely no room for error in them situation so they end up being the most successful, dancing with a dagger is really just fantasy.
Good for you guys, find out what really works.

@MrJoe1888cfc its to be realistic, to avoid knife attacks and so on.. it would be stupid fight with wooden mae sowks vs rubber knife..

shouldve turned the tonfa 's around, more range
TheRoeliskoel 11 months ago
@TheRoeliskoel can't do that. They're forearm shields tied to the arm, not tonfas
