She did the wrong thing, but her opposition to the war was far from wrong.

@DavePerry2012 I myself am an Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran and I spend quite a bit of time at my local VFW where Im proud to say I have many friends who are Vietnam Vets. All but a handfull do not consider the war a mistake and they for the most part are very happy they got to serve in that war. I have very similiar feelings about Iraq and Afghan, and obviously I wasn't in Vietnam, but I at least owe the vets of Vietnam respect enough to listen to their opinions about the war

U.S. Grant, who I consider to be one of the greatest men in American military history, served in the Mexican War. OTOH, he called the war "wicked", and "one of the worst examples of a powerful nation mistreating a less powerful one".

I'm no supporter of Stalinism, or of communism in East Asia, but I think it may be a mistake to think the Vietnam war wasn't waged partly for the wrong reasons.

The political situation in the US is very fluid, unlike in places like Iraq or North Korea where one regime maintains a strangle-hold for decades. I used the Mexican war as an example, but obviously it was in a totally different era from what we are talking about here. The fact remains that wars are political as well as military events, and the underlying political motivations can't be discounted.

Always remember that, based on the structure of the US Constitution, the military isn't run by the military, it's run by the civilian government. That means that, for better or worse, the politicians literally own the military. I don't think it's anything unique to US history to think that politicians have ulterior motives. Study European or Chinese history and you will see the same.

It's available on Amazon and in all major bookstores, and it is not bullshit, it's delivered right from the horse's mouth. If you are a contemporary American historian, then there is no reason this shouldn't interest you. Do me this favor, and don't challenge my points any further until you have read it.
