people people, you can still eat lemons, just make sure you bought it from the store, whole, and cut it yourself with your own (hopefully clean) hands. The lemons in restaurants are the ones in question which would suggest that lots of food there is contaminated, we haven't died yet so I doubt avoiding lemons specifically will lower any risks

thing is - that microbiologist would know that lemons are full of acid, which often kills the germs. Our stomachs are also full of acid, which also kills most of the millions and billions of germs that consume every day. So... I think you're safe!

yes, but I'm sure you realize that the citric acid in lemons is usually in the inside of the lemon, not on the outer rind, but that also depends on how they are stored after they are cut, handling, ets. Citric acid also often doesn't kill off all germs, hell even orange and pineapple juice can go bad after a while opened and stored in room-temperature.

Great song and video Abby! Wash the outside as with any fruit or vegetable before eating lemons. Bacteria will stay on the surface of lemons given the skin isn't damaged (they have a very waxy skin) and the bacteria will not be mixed into the center of 'mass' that sometimes happens to ice-cream, or hamburger during manufacturing. It is hard to wash and rinse ice-cream or hamburger. If the lemon skin is breached and it looks spoiled, throw it out.

Unless you have a bladder infection, or a blood infection, etc, urine is getting pulled from your blood and filtered in tissues in your kidneys where bacteria would not pass easily. Your GI tube from your mouth to the other end is a tube open to the outside and although bacteria would not easily enter your body systemically as your body absorbs nutrition, what bacteria are there when you eat something and the bacteria that live there are not in anyway filtered and pass out of the tube.
