can you imagine passing out in some small-town honky tonk in 1967 after downing a bottle of jack daniels while this song is playing on the jukebox, then waking up today after all these years, turning on the radio, tuning in to the local country music station & saying, "what the hell happened?"
What is the version you're thinking of as being the original? I swear I remember a different version from the 60's or 70's but can't find it. Who is the artist you're thinking about?
@pooteymom921 I have researched and from what I've found this is the original...but several artists have recorded it. My favorite, and the only version I knew of until recently, is Loretta Lynn's recording. It was included on the album "Loretta Lynn...Singin' with Feeling". from probably around 1969 or so. Her version is the closest in style to Wynn's.
You're right, this isn't the original recording by Wynn. His voice is a little heavier in this version than the original, although this one is VERY close to the original, but the vocal nuances aren't quite the same as his original recording. If someone had never heard Wynn's original recording of this, they may not realize this is a remake. But I still love this song by him. :-)
Here is the original version by Wynn. If you have keen ears you'll hear his voice has a slightly lighter feel to it in this one than the one posted above. (take out the spaces)

@ezraship EASY there Buckaroo....the really great thing about us country music fans is our courtesy, hospitality, and the ability to play well with others.
@robyfox2 - I don't remember saying anything about this song...and it was apparently a year ago. Must have been someone else that wrote that - doesn't seem like things I'd say. I love this song, besides - who looks at these useless comments anyhow?!?
For years I had it framed in my mind that the lyric was was: "And, o'er the mountain, the sun will come shining through." I suppose it was because of the looming Sacramento Mountains behind our house. When you're a kid, sometimes you get things mixed up. Anyway, I've loved this song since then and am happy to find the true lyrics...but, I know that somewhere, that kid's voice of mine will be crooning about the sunshine 'o'er the mountain...' Wynn, thanks for years of smiles.

The Bakersfield Sound that Buck Owens pioneered is the best and will never be equaled much less surpassed in country music.

In 1985, he was embarking on a comeback tour after years of obscurity, when he suddenly died of a heart attack.
For those who fondly remember Wynn Stewart, his unique voice and singing style will not be emulated.
