  • As good live as the record (w/o overdubs).

  • Does anyone know what make those guitar heads are stacked up in the background?

  • @jon1156 they look the mesa/boogie vintage powerhouse bass amps

  • @jon1156 they are laney plexi amps made in u.k.

  • @jon1156 thiose are Laney heads Tony was an early user

  • Hell, i wish i could've been there! I'd be rolling up a J or loading a bowl!

Long live the masters of doom!

  • Could somebody post the alternate lyrics?

  • sabbath forever

  • I do not know how nobody thought of mixing these rare recordings released on the market, what are waiting, the world ends and nobody to enjoy

  • Dear blacksabfan

How do you know this is from sheffield?

not questioning, just asking if you know what I mean.

err... not being an arse.. just interested

    fucking great isn't it?

  • @ianpw2

I don't have anything to go on other than the information that's been passed down from the recorder of the show himself. Based on the new songs from the third LP, it would have to be at some point during this time period (late 70-early 71). Every other collector says its from Sheffield, so Sheffield it is.

  • ¡¡¡¡ PROTO METAL !!!

  • @MAGALTMALDITABASURA METAL!!! just "METAL"

  • @johnthegreek178

    lml_____ONLY PURE HEAVY METAL_____lml

  • Alright...a few drinks going...wanna say something that probably only black sabbath fans can understand. When I was a lot younger I worked as labor in a big apartment complex...everything from heavy construction to cleaning up the garbage. One day when I was in the garbage dumpster area, I found two cassettes somebody had thrown away - Master of Reality and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Took 'em home and was entranced. And isn't that Black Sabbath magick for ya? And this is a wicked song!

  • Alternate Lyrics my ass! Ozzy forgot the lyrics, that's what happened! haha

  • Colaberate! The autobiography dont blame me has Geezer Butler telling the whole story of SABBATHS rise and fall. The extremly large EGO of TONI. The lyrical capabilaty of OZZY and his absolute modest role in the sucsess of SABBATH. They were a working band but when GEEZER was forced to fire OZZY the sucess went with him!?

  • @mamasboy815

What the hell are you babbling about? Geezer didn't fire Ozzy. Bill Ward was forced to fire Ozzy, the guilt of which he's lived with for a long time, and why Bill sides with Ozzy on almost everything these days.

Don't Blame Me was also a DVD created when? Around '92? Amazing coincidence considering that Tony and Ozzy weren't exactly on good terms around that time, despite them trying to arrange a reunion of the original band...and in my opinion a completemistake at that time.

  • @mamasboy815

Plus, Ozzy's success has a lot more to do with others, like Bob Daisley, Randy Rhoads, Geezer, Tony, Bill, and the other musicians he was fortunate enough to work with. So any success really isn't Ozzy Osbourne's alone, despite certain people's attempts from trying to make it appear to be that way...cough$haronO$bornecough.

So my advice: Stop being a fan-boy. It's bad for you.

  • @blacksabfan I am no fan of OZZY alone.I am a fan of BLACK SABBATH,the coment I replied to was he couldnt believe OZZY WAS KICKED OUT A YEAR LATER? You are right about BILL WARD I had a brain fart. What I was pointing out was the fact you can see on the video the animosity TONY displayed towards OZZY.Brother kick it on out if you got it, but sounds to me you are a IOMI fan not SABBATH.If you read the whole coment I also gave Batman the honer of poster boy for fucked up rocker INK.

  • @blacksabfan OH yeah, back to your original argument.Iomi had COPYRIGHT to only THREE songs.black sabbath, hand of doom and sabbath bloody sabbath. That explains his faliure at his one attempt at a solo carreer.

  • @mamasboy815

What the fuck are you talking about? Lay off the drugs.

Now go home and get your fuckin' shine box.

  • @blacksabfan what the fuck are you talking about?? get your head outta your ass bro, Ozzy deserves all the credit given to him. besides it aint SABBATH without Ozzy. FACT. and how in the FUCK can you tell mamasboy815 to not be a fan if your name is blacksabfan? your screwy dude AHAHAHAHA!

  • @MistaJeeziz

First off, I'm not your "bro". Anyone that uses the term "bro" seriously is an idiot.

Second, I would recommend you look up the word "FACT" in a dictionary.

Third, I can tell "mamasboy815" not to be a fan because I am of the belief that true Sabbath fans accept the fact that Sabbath produced music that didn't involve Ozzy Osbourne. Maybe if you're an Ozzy fan, you don't accept that FACT, but Sabbath fans generally do accept it. See the difference?

    Now fuck off.

  • @blacksabfan

I have to agree with MistaJeeziz. Black Sabbath is just not really Black Sabbath without Ozzy.

So you can fuck off yourself.

  • @blacksabfan

I have to agree with MistaJeeziz. Black Sabbath is just not really Black Sabbath without Ozzy.

So you can fuck off yourself.

  • @DuRoLuRo

The difference between my point of view and MisterJizzInMouth's is that my view is a 100% verifiable fact, and his (and yours) is a stupid ass opinion from an Ozzy fan-boi.

And no, YOU can go fuck off.

  • @DuRoLuRo Yeah, man... The only song I like of Sabbath's without Ozzy is Heaven & Hell.

  • @blacksabfan chill bro

  • @MessatsuHadoken

Not sure if you're being intentionally ironic, or just blatantly stupid.

  • this is the first song i learned on guitar!

  • BEST VERSION YET! :D

  • Comment removed

  • soooo fucking kickasss

  • I cant get enough of this song how noone writes them like that no more

  • My favorite Sabbath jam on my favorite Sabbath album! Interesting lyrics in this one.

  • where are tge lyrics

  • probablly the best version of this kick ass song, their best tour in my opinion was their sabbath bloody sabbth tour

  • The heavy metal...in this song....it's..so..hard...to breath!

  • whats this "used to" BS. this is just straight up heavy. call it doom or stoner or whatever you will, i just agree with the simple fact that i LOVE this song! HORNS UP!

  • Great!!! 6 Stars

  • Judas priest is good but not godss,,

    Sabbath metal godss!!!!

  • i like MORE DOOM ROCK!

    il rock di la morti,..

    el rock de la muerte..

  • I love all of these bootlegs!I'm a Black Sabbath collector in the extreme!!I love these rarities!!

  • I remember "doom rock"

  • doom metal

  • We used to call this "DOOM ROCK" before the term Heavy Metal was used...

  • @JEDIALADDIN I was before you,and we didnt call it heavy metal or doom rock.we didnt have a name for it.

  • @DragonFly01976 there is only one name 4 it, Black Sabbath, no other name is correct lol

  • @DragonFly01976 Just BLACK SABBATH JEJEJE

  • @DragonFly01976 That's right. We had no special name for Sabbath's music. it was all just Rock and Roll. (ie; their greatest hits album: "We Sold Our Souls For Rock & Roll") I believe the first reference to the term was in Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild" - "HEAVY METAL THUNDER." Someone snatched the term and applied it to Sabbath and the emerging HEAVY ROCK sound of the time.

  • @BillySeagull

If you ever have the chance to watch the "Live in Paris" televised footage from 1970 in it's complete form, you'll hear the "television announcer" saying something like "We'll be right back with more from HEAVY METAL band, Black Sabbath." You might be lucky enough to find that on youtube. My point is, someone is referred to Sabbath as "heavy metal" even way back in 1970. Also, there is quite an atonal difference between Sabbath and most "heavy rock" bands at the time.

  • @BillySeagull You are correct! The words Heavy Metal did indeed come from a Steppenwolf song. The term was then taken from the song and used to describe music played by bands like Deep Purple, Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc. Steppenwolf was a great Canadian band for that era.

  • @BananaJSSI

If Steppenwolf released that song in '68, how did they use that term to describe Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Purple?

Zeppelin and Sabbath didn't even exist yet, and Purple was still in their infancy, playing music NOT what they became known for.

Just asking, since you seem to know about that subject.

  • @blacksabfan If you read what I had written I said the 'Term' was taken from the song and used to describe the kind of music played by the bands I had listed. Maybe I should have clarified and written the term was taken and used later on to describe that music. I do believe Deep Purple was around in 1968 and also Black Sabbath was then called Earth. Led Zeppelin put out their first album around 1969 if I'm correct. I probably have it in my collection.

  • @BananaJSSI A few other words I'd like to add. Black Sabbath formed in 1966 in Birmingham, U.K. under the name Polka Tulk Blues Band and later changed their name to Earth. Around 1969 they were Black Sabbath. Deep Purple & Led Zeppelin were formed in 1968. You know that Black Sabbath got their name from a 1963 Horror movie titled Black Sabbath by Boris Karloff.

  • @BananaJSSI

What you said the second time is actually correct. Your first comment didn't really insinuate the time frame for the term. Not that you have to, but based on what you said, my question is more than fair. You talk almost as it was applied to these bands simultaneously, which I can tell now you didn't mean that. However, before criticizing my ability to read, which I assure you is a thousand times better than 99% of the people on here, perhaps you should actually say what you mean.

  • @blacksabfan That's what happens when I'm in a hurry, lol

  • @BananaJSSI

Fair enough, it happens to the best of us.

  • @blacksabfan Indeed it does.

  • I love Black Sabbath, best band ever. The new shit's more advanced and all, but these guys started it. Drop tuning, singin' about weed, dimensions, planets, they will always rule. Sad they're in a law suit but i'd be Sharon Osborne is a big part of that.

  • Fuckin' right! The original always sounds the best.

  • Yeah, she's a whore who uses Ozzy for his legacy.

  • Weeell, i'm not a fan of Sharon, but if it wasn't for her, Ozzy would've been dead.. It's sad but true.

    Anyways, this song is amazing!

  • It is, on both counts, but if I was Ozzy I would have killed myself after Randy died.

And the truth is that Sharon really has no one else either. She was a daddy's girls.

  • @CoonMike Yea but if ozzy would have pulled the pussy switch and ended his beautifull fucked up life he would have missed out on the most talented badass rockin motherfucker that ever lived LADIES & GENTLEMEN MR. ZAKK WYLDE!!!! THANK YOU.

  • @1SuicideMessiah zakk wylde sucks in comparrison to iommi, zakk wylde is very bleh every solo sounds the same bleh

  • @Getchapull616 Sharon is (to quote Alan Partridge) "An evil, evil idiot", laughing at dismembered penis's on feminazi talk shows

  • @Rabbitfighter63 THAT, my friend, is spot-on...

  • @Getchapull616 why would he be dead?!

  • @ECHOdavidoff If you see any of the many Ozzy biographies, Ozzy explains that she pulled him out of a depression.

  • @CoonMike Damn right

  • woah i may not like sharron a great deal either but dont insult the man's wife thats a lil uncalled for

  • I wasn't insulting her I think she's a very sweet, adorable person. Maybe I just see things in a very negative light, which is prolly why I dont have a gf.

  • One of my favourite Sabbath tunes. Iommi is a guitar god. Seeing this band live was awesome!

  • At like 2:30 there's some weird ass voices under the recording. great song though.

  • the person who was recording it.

  • goddess !

  • Thanks for the tune. Crazy to think this was a full 15 years before I was born.

  • the last verse is the best!!! :D

  • Feel your spirit rise with the breeze

Feel your body falling to its knees

    Sleeping wall of remorse

Turns your body to a corpse

Turns your body to a corpse

Turns your body to a corpse

    Sleeping wall of remorse

Turns your body to a corpse

  • so those are the lyrics to wall of sleep, I always wondered...

  • yep that is the lyrics to a behind the wall of sleep. i'd rather see you post the lyrics to this version of this song.

  • Master of Reality Deluxe came out recently... I don't know for sure, but these lyrics could be the ones in Spanish Sid, the alternative version of Into the Void on the outtakes disc.

  • Could be. Haven't had time to compare the two.

  • Same. I probably will compare them here in a little bit though and report back with my findings.

  • Ozzy used to be cool :(

  • I can't believe Oz is really suing Tony for rights to the name Black Sabbath. Why does he even care? It was always Tony's band anyway...money is the root to all evil. I guess we will never see a reunion.

  • eh the poor dude he probably can't think straight after all da drugs D:

  • Haha, exactly, So Sharon thinks FOR him!

  • fuck it, it's great music.

  • hahaha, true. I personally believe that every member was vital to Black Sabbath. Ozzy for his unique vocals; Iommi for his fantastic riffs; Butler for his mesmerizing Bass rhythym; and Ward for his epic Drumming.

I personally dislike the Post-ozzy Black Sabbath because Dio turned it from Metal to like, shit metal--seriously. However, it's true, Iommi is the Backbone of Black Sabbath. No other guitarist can replace him.

  • I don't disagree with your assessment, and hell, I'll even go as far to say that 25% 4-way split of the Sabbath name to the original members would be, in a perfect world, fair. There's a few problems with this though...

The big one is that the other three members legally sold their shares to Iommi. In simple terms, it's like Ozzy is being an Indian-giver. Yeah Oz, you fucked up when you sold away your share of the name...sometimes you make bad deals...that's life.

  • The lesser issue is that other people were in Black Sabbath as well, and whether or not you like their contributions, they still were in a band with Iommi called "Black Sabbath". If Ozzy were to win this case, what's stopping Tony Martin or Ian Gillan from saying, 'Well, I was in Black Sabbath too, and I also deserve part of the name." Keep in mind they have just as much legal right to it as Ozzy does at this point in time. If they say yes to Ozzy, then they'd have to say yes to anyone else.

  • ya plus ozzy is an original sabbath member plus that dude was fuckininsane he bit off a doves head cuz he was angry oh and the bat was an accident he thought it was a toy

  • wow I think ozzy actually sounds better on this recording then he does on the actual album. Sucks that Ozzy is trying to sue Iommi over the Sabbath name...

  • Thats bullshit anyway, its Toni Iommi's name anymore because hes been using the moniker for years now while Ozzy was KICKED OUT of the band, he didn't even start it, Toni recruited him because he had a P.A. "Ozzy Zig requires gig, Owns PA" The wanted ad ozzy posted in the paper! haha

  • Yeah, but think about their popularity post Ozzy? I mean, Dio is FUCKING DIO! But Ozzy WAS Black Sabbath. Afterwards, it was more like Dio Sabath, ya know man?

My point is, if he feels he's being denied proper compensation, let him take it to the courts for them to decide. In the meantime, let's just all kick back and throw Paranoid on the turntable.

  • NO. Tony Iommi legally owns the name Black Sabbath. Ozzy sold his share away. Popularity doesn't make any fucking difference and Ozzy deserves nothing and will get nothing...unless the judge completely ignores standard law regarding contracts and signed agreements.

And lets make this clear. Tony Iommi WAS Black Sabbath. Ozzy sang was was written for him, by Geezer, and the music was written by the other three.

  • Besides that, how does Ozzy have the gall to say that Tony needs to do the "moral and ethical thing" by sharing the name with the other original members, when Ozzy/Sharon screwed Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake out of rightfully earned royalties and egg Maiden's performance because they were blowing Sabbath off the stage (mostly due to Ozzy's shitty performances)? The Osbournes dont have a clue what morals are, and lets face it...its all about $. The Osbournes are greedy pigs and deserve nothing.

  • AMEN BROTHER! haha :)

  • ozzys just so out of it these days he just seems to do what his wife wants him to do, i can imagine Sharon Osbourne is behind alot of this stuff

  • Leech bitch!

    Same with Gail Zappa

  • i feel ya

  • Theres many sabbath songs with alternate lyrics thats why they will always RULEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I never thought I'd hear a 1970's live version of this legendary song, and the fact that it's an early version of the song makes it even more awesome! You are awesome for posting this!

  • Great song great performance.

  • Awesome, I love hearing early versions of their stuff(well, all versions). The alternate lyrics are kinda hard to hear though. Have you ever thought about transcribing them?

  • how is it wierd how they were playing the songs live before the album came out???

  • Dude, what are the alternate lyrics?

    That's definately Ozztifer singing.

  • Yes, but he's singing different lyrics than what appeared on the final album version.

  • mm... I have the original version of war pigs on vhs. Different lyrics on that one as well.

  • fake, its the album version... i can listen to you at 3.55

  • Your theory would make a lot of sense if you didn't have to account for the audience in the background, the different lyrics, the tape hiss, Ozzy changing the vocal melody and phrasing of the last verse, the slightly different guitar solo by Iommi at the end, the clapping of the audience, Ozzy introducing the next song, and so on.

But you do...so basically you're just an idiot. Congratulations.

  • Please tell me you're joking?

  • so, basically you are just a fking kid. Congratulation...

  • A fucking kid with ears. And a brain. Congratulations to me indeed.

Congratulations to you on your permanent ban.

  • LOL. That comeback is priceless. :)

  • I have some good ones now and then.

  • Who you calling kid? You're 17 you fool

  • yea that's the album version....& my name's shitdick magee.

  • Best band in the history of metal, with the possible exception of led zeppelin

  • Depends on what a person considers metal. I love Zeppelin and have all their official stuff and a few bootlegs of them too. I don't consider them metal though, but I know some people do. Regardless, they are a great band, just like Sabbath.

  • yeah i know what you mean. I often don't consider them metal, but many do.

Are those squiggles Greek? It must be, because it's Greek to me, man. Ziiiing! Horrible pun, I know. Lame comedic attempt aside, this version is just pure badassness (Yeah, it's a word, deal with it, OK?)

  • yes, its greek!!! right!!! and it means BETTER THAN SEX, MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!!! ΜΠΛΑΚ ΣΑΜΠΑΘ ΓΙΑ ΠΑΝΤΑ!!!!!!

  • Better than sex, huh? Well, it may be orgasmic to the ears, sir, but certainly not as good as an orgasm to the phallus. ;)

  • sure man!!! i didnt tell it seriously!! what did you thinking for? haha

  • Oh, I know you were being sarcastic, man. I was simply joking; that's all.

  • Outstanding rare version! Great post my man...just great... Black Sabbath are great!

  • Iommi actually had to use banjo strings in the early days for the G,B and E ones as normal strings hurt his fingers. And used to swap the D for a G, A for a D, and E for an A. All cos of his damaged fingertips. Probably why you constantly hear him tuning up. Must have been a nightmare. Long live Black sabbath.

  • my absolute favorite sabbath song

  • excellent sound quality and performance

  • This is great.thank you blacksabfan.

  • Tune to the tune if thats what you want to do . than retune cmon instrument and pickups & amp and effects are the the key the rest is either irrelevant or technique just rock & roll if you can .

  • and, neil,,you dont know what your talking about, provided your guitar is set up for it,you can tune to any type of tuning you want, but you cant play this tune in normal(a440 concert pitch)tuning,it wouldent be low enough to hit the low notes

  • C sharp IS D flat you idiots.and yes it is tuned to C sharp (or if u wanna call it D flat)no question.ive been plaing this for years and its positively C#

  • krystal1mage is absolutely right, the song is tuned to C# or Db.. No questions about it..

  • All these comments about tuning the guitar down - surely it's best just to leave it alone isn't it?

Iommi tunes down on the Rainbow 73 gig (Live at last) for War pigs and Paranoid. They're in E on the record and obviously Ozzy has to sing lower and the character of the song is just ruined - especially Paranoid.

Also - the time when a guitar is the nearest to being perfectly in tune is the normal tuning - mess about with it and you mess with the harmonics.

  • Guess he had nothing to lose since the amps were supplied by Laney.

  • Ha! Tony pushed his amps to the absolute limit back in the day. You always hear a big squeal right before the song starts on their early live tunes. Supposedly he was blowing amps and tubes left and right back then.... But holy hell they sounded great.

  • 4:33-4:56 fuckin badass

  • I hadn't heard this version before. Fantastic. And I really like what Ozzy does with that last verse too.

  • tony tune to flat's..

    e flat

    b flat

    g flat

    d flat

    a flat

    e flat

  • into the void, and everything on master of reality and onwards is played in C#

  • Funny how this song brings out all the guitarists who've undoubtedly tried to tune their guitar to play this super heavy killer riff infected masterpiece. Long live all guitarists and the passion that drives them.

  • HUGE.

  • terry butler = badass

  • how is it funny that they played this? masters of reality came out 6 months after paranoid...in 1971....for them to play a song in 1971, that came out in 1971 is kind of normal...

  • Read the video description slower next time.

  • I've long known that this is indeed the heaviest song in the world, my definition of heavy being low and dark. Its main riff is an open, muted chug on the low E, as low as you can get. I mean, unless you tuned your guitar down further than Iommi, at which point the strings would be too slack to do you much good. LONG LIVE BLACK SABBATH!

  • Not sure, b/c I don't have "perfect pitch" or whatever, but I think this is actually dropped D or @ least E flat. I'm pretty sure they started dropping tune a/b this time. You can go all the way down to a/b B if you adjust the intonation to compensate. It's not the note what makes the song, though. It's the riff. This one trumps all.

  • I think he just means the low E string...he's not taking about the specific tuning. On the actual album it's C#. The funny thing about old tapes is that the sound can become distorted and there's even programs like Audacity that can edit pitch without changing speed or tempo that some people use to "repair" damage to old tapes. I messed around with "Megalomania" once and actually changed the key from a C# to E and the results were hilarious.

  • Oh man, I've got to try that! XD

  • Was just about to comment about it being in C#.

But to Halo9449, I tend to disagree, getting lower than C# sounds fine, for example, C tuning, just make sure your strings are 11 - 12 guage at the least haha.

  • pft, try going lower than drop c, it sounds great, try drop B or drop A tunings they sound fine and they r wicked heavy. I say drop G is wen u start to push it. (ya ur right about the gauge of the string tho)

  • It is c sharp 100 percent right

  • C Sharp tuning.

  • this was 1971 and sounds like some modern metal band, they invented metal

  • Great f'n metal. Thanks for adding this. In my opinion, nothing has ever even come close to touching Sabbath in the metal department--Ward's loud, pounding drums, Geezer's droaning bass, Iommi's sharp and HEAVY riffs, and Ozzy's nasally vocal delivery combine to make anything that has come after sound like the Carpenters. Helmet is possibly an exception. Long live Black Sabbath!

  • Black Sabbath are the ephiany of Heavy Metal!!

Tony's pounding riffs,Geezer's heavy bass lines,Bill's sledgehammer drums, and of course Ozzy's distinct yet soothing voice. Black Sabbath perfected the art of Heavy Metal!! Sabbath for fucking ever!!

  • Geezer Butler is awesome. I heard the guy has never missed a show or called in sick.

  • if any huge sabbath fans here have a myspace, send me a message here on youtube with your myspace address and ill send you a invite

  • the bass by geezer butler is what created the doom and dark side of sabbath.....i am 44 years old and have listened to them since i was 7 years old! and tony iommis riffs were second to none! long live black sabbath!

  • Sabbath's first two albums Geezer used a standard bass tuning. After those he dropped his tuning 1 and 1/2 steps(C#) to match Toni's guitar tuning. Everyone gives Toni credit for creating 'heavy metal' but so few know that it was Geezer that perfected it. Both instruments need to tune down for this kind of sound. And, as you noted, Toni takes a backseat to no-fucking-body when it comes to riffs.

    +1 for your comment

  • the most noted instrument in all of theyr songs is the guitar the bass u cant hear it well
