This villian reminded me of the Toyman, and in the movie it looked like he was using a video game when he used the computer to have the missiles attack Superman, when the computer seemed to have a mind of it's own it reminded me ot Brainiac and the Superman double in this movie (not shown in this clip) and the clone in Superman 4 reminded me of Bizzaro and other Superman doubles sometimes in the comics.
@hydrolito Yeah, I agree with all of those! In fact, I don't know if you knew this, but the super computer was originally going to be Brainiac before they decided to put Richard Pryor in the film. And also Superman 4 had some deleted scenes with another Nuclear Man that looked quite a bit like Bizarro as well.
This movie came at the height of Video Game popularity. Sound FX were from Atari 6000 Pacman & Yar's Revenge. Nuclear Man #1, cut from IV, is clearly supposed to be Bizarro. In comics, Superman did split into two, more than once, from exposure to Red Kryptonite. The "synthetic" kryptonite in III is basically the same thing. The movies have a bad habit of reinventing the wheel. Another example is Perry Whites nephew in Returns. He already has a nephew "Terry White" in the comics.
@drbotanus On Smallville they called synthethic kryptonite effect same as black kryptonite and it created a 2nd Lex Luthor that was evil and Lex had to excape and save Clark from him if I remember right, and in another episode it also created a 2nd Clark when exposed to sunlight looked like Bizzaro. Adventures of Superman with George Reeves back in the fifties also had him split in two but they were each good and less powerful than the original. Spiderman 3 also repeated similar idea.
@motabbirh the word ''received'' was also misspelled on Gus' computer screen when he was contacting the vulcan satellite to analyze the components of the kryptonite elements.
And for everyone bitching he was too weak when they wires pulled him into the computer.....news flash it was intentional. He did it to fake the computer since he had the acid. Wake up people
So all you did was cut out the LCD screen animation shots (which is actually something most people like and find nostalgic) and a few from Ross and the other 2 ladies, and you call that a re edit. Epic fail dude
im sure those are cruise missiles. getting hit by one of those would knock superman around. What you guys always forget is superman is only 225 lbs. It's easy to knock him around.
but the funny thing is when superman in this movie gets hit by one of those missiles it seem that he was unconscious when he hit that rock pillar. O_O
@MrHoppers002 ha ha, that's a good point, i didn't really get that part either. and not to mention that he gets strangled by computer wires afterwards... (face palm)
1:48 Yeah, that kick does not look the slightest bit awkward
1:59 It looks exactly the same before and after the explosion. If you're not gonna bother changing the backdrop, then don't bother with the alpha channel. Also, we can clearly see that Superman's sprite just appears out of nowhere in the explosion.
This sequence crystalizes how disappointing the third film is - the effects work in spots is okay but is presented far too sluggishly - especially the flying scenes. The Salkinds thought Richard Lester could direct a full Superman film and all he proved is he couldn't.
@thesouz18 - I liked the FX work in Superman 4, though they could have been better as well.
@STP43FAN1 the thing about this movie is that supposedly the salkinds were going to have a different storyline involving braniac, mr. mxyzptlk, and supergirl but the studios turned the idea down and thought that having richard pryor and a giant computer would be a better idea. and yeah richard lester did put a lot of gags which kinda bogged the film down (although having superman get drunk was pretty crazy!).
@thesouz18 I know, arent films supposed to have greater effects as the years go on? Superman IV after Superman III, and somehow had even worse effects than this abomination.
@stone85 yeah, who knew that superman was even affected by alcohol in the first place! i thought kryptonians would have a higher tolerance than humans in general.
@thesouz18 i guess jorel forgot to tell superman in earth culture that drugs & alchohol destroy human lives in many ways while baby kalel clark was journeying to earth in the first movie
Congratulations. You took a bad movie and made it even worse.

@JiS01 Yeah, he's so weak in this movie for some reason. It really pissed me off that he got strangled by the computer wires after this scene too.

wasn't he also hosed with kryptonite beams before getting strangled with wires? i thought that weakened him to near powerless levels.

@MrHoppers002 Ah, true, that's a good point as well!
