The history portion is true. Learning about Africa in high school right now and I can say that he's not wrong in any of it. Kush was an empire. Timbuktu was a HUGE educational center. Alexander did go to Egypt, hence the city of Alexandria. Gold was a major role in the economy. Scholars came from all over. After the attacks, the trade routes were destroyed, "Africa was almost robbed naked".

That's why Africa is screwed up, they sold off all their smartest people.
