@chillywinter16 The obvious sexual overtones, but at age 8, I had no idea what the song meant. I just enjoyed dancing to it. You know how parents got all bent out of shape over stuff....lol
This clip here illustrate the birth of Glam Rock...Bowie, Kiss the New York Dolls followed it during the early 70s.....see Brian Jones, lipstick and Charley Watt's eye liner...
@Vatch1966 Would have been interesting to see where Brian would have gone musically. I'd say he'd be a Grammy-winning producer/arranger as well as an accomplished musician. I think he would have thrived outside of The Stones.
bravo aux personnes qui met les musiques (j'ai écoutais ça quant j'avais 1 mois en cassettes met-té ça en répit sinon je pleurais) et c toujours le cas avec mes filles.
This is a band, and a song, and a moment in time, when earthly constraints fell away. This was not contrived, it was a progression into greatness, but alas one of their number had to slip this mortal coil.
@rickbandana Well I'd love to go back to the 60s but not the second bit. Jagger's the wrong gender for me and a triumph of charisma and self-confidence over actual talent and looks. He was great but in his own way.
I think they still don't get their due. This a good representation of when they and then every other band left behind that Ed Sullivan School Boy Uniform Era creating the world of Rock and Roll as we know it. Sure the Beatles (and Stones) were doing it gradually for years at this point. But this was when it went really dark. For me anyways. The band who created Rock and Roll as we know it, the drugs, the wrecking of hotel rooms, the groupies... Some may've come before but they normalized it.
@lewisner n john lennon knew that. the beatles were inventive of most brands of modern music but he craved the Stones rock n roll cred. the stones never been anythin but the GREATEST ROCK N ROLL BAND OF ALL TIME!
These guys just fuckin nailed it-- all of it-- back then. The proof's in the pudding-- this clip just rocks. The song, the attitude, the look. Another level of cool.
wow how come this version is the studio version but it has a cool ending? I have hot rocks 1964-1971 and it just ends with the gay fade-out, which cuts off a nice little rolling stones jam session
@beatlesjohnnycash ~I am so focused on those "mod" sunglasses. OOh to get my hands on any of em.....lol. I can even forgive Mick for wearing warpaint..cuz you know his heart was in the right place......he did and always will...."move like Jagger"..:o)
It was may 24th 1968 when the single went on the airwaves. Rock and roll since then became just rock. The Stones began a new career that leads to present day. Now they are ancestors. At the time they were menacing pioneers. Look at this video and each Stone is in the shade, Brian is golden keith is black Mick is like a 20th century shaman. And the song... Well that's pure dynamite...
@Lucaforminds My friend, that is a very accurate and articulate summation of this song and the Stones; I like your term "menacing pioneers" - describes the Stones perfectly. I think that the descent of music from these great days to today's sad, corporate, bling-obsessed nonsense is one of the great tragedies of modern times. Thanks for posting a wonderful song.
@demonsbutterfly I think this might have popped up on '68 TV, but I saw this promo film in SF one very spacy, early Sunday AM at a Midnite Movie thing. The crowd was pretty much high on something or other and this comes on out of nowhere and it BLEW everybody away! In fact, they played it five times in a row. You are right. Mick had begun Performance (IMHO one of the most enigmatic films EVER).
@demonsbutterfly They do use the studio backing, but Mick adds a live vocal in the mix for this promo film. At the coda MIck shouts: "Yeah! Yeah! Jumpin' Jack Flash!" and you can hear that he really puts some of his soul into it. Breathtaking!
@isidrosan Well aware that Mick is singing Live...What makes it Rock so well is the use of the Studio Backing Track Behind him....The other version of this clip is to Rough for me.
Who is playing the organ? I have always wanted to know that...Hopkins, Stewart, or even Brian between sleeps???
@noodleworks14 Yup, you got that right...Jagger is the original frontman. And it's damn hard to beat an original. I'll give my nod to Roger Daultry and Robert Plant but Jagger is the best ever!!!!
hey guys, if you have a spare minute could you check out some of my guitar-work on my channel, it would be really appreciated. It sucks to advertise like this but it seems like the only way to get exposure. Thanks if you do check them out :)
I've never seen a frontman look so gay & so hetero at the same time! He just does whatever comes into his little head, doesn't he? No censors on this guy!
@crazychadmb I don't think he actually means it. He wasn't born in a crossfire hurricane either, so it's safe to assume the lyrics aren't true. And it says "bearded" not bitter. :)
in a lot of their promo videos everyone else is miming to an instrumental track but mick is recording a new vocal track as they shoot. makes sense, as this way he could deliver a more natural performance. probably his idea
I love their make-up in this. Mick was so weird in the 60s videos...an original lad he was. That paint on his chest is hilarious. Brian Jones is a hoot here too.
There are no front-men out there today with the charisma, swagger, and natural star quality of someone like Jagger. they just don't exist these days!!!
@bruceleroy14 Right no muscians today on the charts have no personality! they just walk on stage perform then go home. Mick Jagger and JIm Morrison had so mush swag! Janis Joplin even had swag! she would always dance and try to get the crowd to go wild!
Love this video, amazing quality as well! They look so badass here, Beggars Banquet and this recorded - they were on fire! 1:59 Jagger singing the riff as well!
Is this the original overdub? This song is so good its one of a rare few you can outgrow then go back to again and again :) I was so sick of hearing this song til I drove home one night and it hit me up again as the masterpiece it is no matter what version you're listening.
