I think they still don't get their due. This a good representation of when they and then every other band left behind that Ed Sullivan School Boy Uniform Era creating the world of Rock and Roll as we know it. Sure the Beatles (and Stones) were doing it gradually for years at this point. But this was when it went really dark. For me anyways. The band who created Rock and Roll as we know it, the drugs, the wrecking of hotel rooms, the groupies... Some may've come before but they normalized it.

It was may 24th 1968 when the single went on the airwaves. Rock and roll since then became just rock. The Stones began a new career that leads to present day. Now they are ancestors. At the time they were menacing pioneers. Look at this video and each Stone is in the shade, Brian is golden keith is black Mick is like a 20th century shaman. And the song... The crowd was pretty much high on something or other and this comes on out of nowhere and it BLEW everybody away! In fact, they played it five times in a row. You are right. Mick had begun Performance (IMHO one of the most enigmatic films EVER).
