Sorry to vent on a generally positive film but seriously? John Hopkins acknowledged and painted a likeness of the dog 18 years before they finally acknowledged Thomas....
Great movie but I'm still disgusted by the fact that Blalock didn't publicly acknowledge Vivien's immense contributions. This really tainted a great story.
First Alan Rickman movie I've been able to see where he isn't just not a villain, but is actually the hero! Alan Rickman is my role model, my inspiration, my everything! Thanks Alan!
This was one of the best movies ever. I own it and watch it from time to time. God Bless HBO for showing us quality movies like this and helping everyone all of the vast contributions EVERYONE has made to this nation.
I am a TOF baby, thanks to these guys i am here today posting a message. I had my opperation when i was 5 in the early 70's. I have not seen the film yet, but i intented to get it. I just wanted to say thankyou to Dr Blalock and Dr Thomas and there families. I live in the uk.
Our anatomy prof told us to watch this movie. He said you are not a real medstudent if you haven't seen this movie. he was right! exactly the kind of motivation I needed! Let's go and change the world my fellow students!
in a world today where doctors use video to perform heart surgery, i really respect and admire these doctors for their discovery..just imagine how hard it can be w/o the videos to look inside the heart
This movie is partly what made me want to pursue a medical career. However, what won me is the realization of the beauty of the fused inticrate relationship between physiology and molecular biology--that is wonderous. This is an amazing flim but what's even more amazing is the show of triumph of human benevolence and acumen over the abhorrent sickness of institutional racism.
I saw this movie today in Science because we're learning about hearts and how it works, it was an amazing movie it was touching. I recomend this movie to EVERYONE!
If your ? above is legitimate, the way that cyanosis (as well as jaundice) is observed in people with darker skintones is by looking at the mucous membranes andth conjuctiva of the eye.
Oh, that makes more sense. I know when I have a case of "the blues" when I put on an old John Lee Hooker or Muddy Waters record and it makes me cry like a little baby. I mean Prozac and Jack don't do nothin' when you down that low, man.
So do I. Dr. Blalock and Thomas are my heros. I was a blue baby and their treatments saved me and now I am alive because of them. I have done whole speech on them too.
This is a very good movie. Very sad, though. What really makes it sad is that even if you take away the race factor, what Vivien went through can still happen today to a certain extent. It's the ones who work under the doctors who do most of everything and they don't get squat for it.
and well it has a personal connection with me mainly because I had a Vivian shunt :P as a baby and I did cry after watching this movie so I posted the trailor so others might watch the movie ^_^
@cerealkilla13 Thanks for posting this video! I'm watching the movie as I'm writing this comment. I have seen it about 8 times already and I've cried during every single one of them. What a wonderful story of dedication, sacrifice and love!
i saw this movie in my school's computer lab and i think it is amazing! this moive touched my heart and it made me sad too. this film is wonderful and breaks the racial barrier. i recommend you watch this movie.
I love this movie! I need to buy it! Its my favorite non-Beatle-related movie ever! And thats a hight honor because almost everything I love or declare my favorite is Beatle-related. Yeah yeah yeah!
I love this movie. I just finished watching it in my science class. It really shows that it doesnt matter what color or where you are from you can accomplish great things.

One of the best movie I ever watched, I went on the net and read the real story. Mos Def should have received an Oscar for this...
7ETRNL 2 years ago 3
They don't give Oscars for Television (even TV movies), but they do have Emmys, and both Mos Def and Alan Rickman received well-deserved nominations.

@7ETRNL If you ask me the best movies are the HBO/channel ones.

The most shocking thing is that this is a TRUE story. Not a "based on a true story" story. The truth is staggering.
