  • RIP Jimmy Saville

  • Ah, how times have changed. Look at the prices- nowadays you feel as if have to re-morgage your house for a ticket!

  • @Sortahere yes! and yet in parts of europe fares are remarkably cheap.

  • Ma gud friends 'ere ! Bad move, putting your head out of the train window !

  • Do you like the train service provided by Showaddywaddy?

  • It's a pity Jim couldn't fix the railways!.....I never got my trip to disneyland either!

    5*

  • At 0:19 , can the 125 Group restore the coaches with the original seats?

  • Was on a train the other day...never again. Miserable fuckers complaining about nowt.

  • The train brings people together.

Especially when you can't get a seat.

  • Wish Jimmy could fix Network Rail.

  • ahh... I miss the proper blue and yellow BR livery.

Bring it back I say! :P

  • Now then now then!

  • showaddywaddy

  • Where can i get those prices quoted at the end and are today's train carriages still filled with rubbish and smell of stale urine.

  • hahaha it's like people didn't know what trains were and how they worked but it's ok jimmy will tell them !

  • That is a standard British Mail Mark 3 carrage of the day. People stuck their heads out the window all the time too.

  • @BritainsRailways

And they are still around today

  • @Moss235 Could very well be wrong but are the windows "locked" closed on a lot of the refurbed Mk3 stock?

  • @BritainsRailways

On a HST no, they are still manual open doors, imo there will never be another train like it, for me it is like the Concorde of railways only it has lasted 34 years! and believe me some of them will reach 50 years service

  • Happy daze...HSTs in "Banana" livery.

  • this is utopia!

  • now its profit before passengers an ex BR man

  • @hopki65 - Bring back British Rail is all I can say. A cheaper to run network with profits reinvested back into existing and new routes and services.

  • @Markjuk

Bring back Network South East, the region that got things done. Electrification to Weymouth, Kings Lynn, the Wessex Electrics, Thameslink, modernisation of the Chiltern Line, Chris Green did a good job.

  • @Glenn1967ful NSE didnt just modernise the Chiltern line, they saved it! If you recall, BR wanted to close Marylebone, and there was ridiculous talk of a London to Aylesbury busway. Thank God indeed for Chris Green, the man was a BR legend.

  • yo good film i liked it it was good nice. yo /

  • i like those prices... shame they don't seem to last these days... usualy about 10 times that much!

  • unfortunatly with the referbed fgw hst's there isnt much room to stretch out ...

  • In the mid-80s the Thatcher Government wanted to make the railways pay then privatisation backfired it.

  • "It's much cheaper than you think because--"

    "THIS IS THE AGE..."

    "...OF THE TRAIN!!!"

  • one of the best adverts!

  • Jimmy's the Man!

  • Jimmy Savile....Legend!!

  • And to think those lovely trains are now painted in horrible liveries!

  • Wouldn't it have been funny if Jimmy had taken "The Duchess" (his mother) on the train after she "pegged it." I've often wondered after hearing about that infamous car journey, he talked about on In The Psychiatrist's Chair, whether he put a seatbelt on his 'mother' or did he think it was no longer worth it. After all, clunk click, every trip!

  • Bring back those prices lol

  • jimmy savile gives me the creeps

  • This advert inspired my little brother Neil Brown to become a avid train spotter!.His life has never been the same since!!!!!!Thank you Jimmy savaloy and chips !!!!!!!!

  • Wishful thinking to go back to those prices. Those were the days indeed.

  • and with inflation that works out at only 14 thousand pounds return (H)

  • Those were the days!

  • "I would like you to call me... President Shiwaddywaddy!"

  • I'm just quoting Hugh Dennis imitating Jimmy Saville.

  • That woman didn't shut the door and I hate it when kids run up and down the isles, I couldn't resist tripping them.

  • "Now then, now then, jewellery jewellery, big cigar, dear Jim can you fix it for me to meet Shawaddywaddy...wow...as it appens guys and gals".

  • Appalling continuity. The shot from the cab is of it coming out of the tunnel with the sea on the left, then cuts to it coming out in a cutting!

  • excellent

  • i love the music!!

  • "room to move about" theres a phrase you can't use on railways anymore

  • bodmin rd indeed lol

  • Bodmin Road lol

  • any one know who sang the jingle?

  • I take it you mean the Jimmy Jangle Jingle?

  • It was treble (boy soprano) Peter Auty

  • That was the age of the train. If they can nationalise a bank, the government can sure renationalise the railways!

  • Yes, you don't know what you've got til it's gone. Renationalise the Railways!!

  • Yeah! saw jimmy Saville on a train in 2007 shame the fare have rocketed though. It wasn't a HST set but a crappy class 185 DMU from 2006.

  • This sort of thing makes me want to spend lots of money on model HST equipment.

  • Superb. Love the 'as it happens' line, and that music is great.

  • Ah, those were the days...

The modern Virgin train boasts 426 people to a carriage, a family from Huddersfield with 5 screaming kids drawing on the seat with felt tip pen and flicking crisps at commuters and thirty drunk football fans throwing up on the floor next to a fat bloke with B.O who is eating a Burger King outside the filthy, stinking, pee-ridden 'toilet'.

  • a very accurate account of Voyager travel!!

  • and dont forget the broken air con! and the fact your 1hr late
