Actually you can, that technique is known as "pizzocato" i suggest searching for Flight of the bumblebee for a quick demonstration as the middle part are played this way.

In sheet music parts that should be played pizzocato are often marked "pizz"

I really enjoyed the smoothness of which the song is played. The only thing that threw me off is the slapping sound, which was sounded a little too primitive compared with the rest of the quality of the song. Probably a more refined/subtle sound to keep the timing might be an improvement.
