Well first off this isn't a Beatles song, and Ringo has a great voice. Paul and John would write songs specifically for him to sing (Yellow Submarine, With a Little Help From My Friends, ect.). Dont make comments like this when you dont know what you're talking about.
@AlisonandTigger He did play Photograph (co-written by George - awesome) and Honey Don't (a Carl Perkins song he did with The Beatles). I'm just saying it would have been nice if Ringo sang the one song I know of that had been recorded by both George and Ringo. Peace! :)
...... He's Italian... no kiddin... born in England where Anglicized names were necessary as in turn of the 20th century US for the I rish and Jewish....in order to work....
I know I remember hearing another version of this song once. I thought the DJ said it was by 10 Years After, but I cannot find any evidence of it existing. It was much longer and slower than Ringo's version. Typical of early 70s "progressive rock". Anyone else heard another version?
I think George is my fav, buy I wanna have at least one Ringo solo song I have tons of the other three solo. I thought this would be it but now I dunno since George prob made it..I'll buy it anyway ...What is the best Ringo Starr solo song anyone???
@castorres7 This one. Get a nice clean version, the arrangement and production are amazing! Also, I like "Photograph". There's also "The No-No Song", and I like another one called "Las Brisas" that I believe was also written by George for Ringo.
don't forget Ringo also play right handed drum kit and i know play played a right hand bass/guitar but the guitar is easier to change by flipping the guitar
Not to mention, many drum parts you hear today are electronically produced or over dubbed. I would first listen to Beatles songs, especially on the later albums and listen to the drums in there. I tell you people, I've seen 12 year old kids cover those drum tracks here on Youtube and that is a testament of how many young drummers got inspired by this old chump who is also very humble in describing his drumming style. I learned that I don't have to be a Buddy Rich nor a Neil Peart to be great.
Many people who say he is a bad drummer are not even professional musicians, and others don't even know how to drum at all and yet they think this man is a an untalented loser. How dare you. Some people also assumed that The Beatles' style is old and therefore their drummer sucks as well. That is false. Even in their early days, you can hear good drumming. They did heavy rock as well and so was their drummer. In their later albums he got even better.
Ringo wasnt allowed play on the first recordings because they assumed he wasnt any better than Pete Best ,who at earlier demos was not considerd good enough to record .When they did get around to actually listening to his drumming they didnt hesitate. The rest is history as they say.
@backhouse2k5 "This was actually George Harrison's song... Harrison co-wrote it, but the original demo of the song only featured Harrison, not Ringo.."
It was an original idea by Ringo which he then finished with George, much like Octopusse's Garden. The recording with George singing is the exact same backing track as with Ringo singing. So really, Ringo IS there playing drums.
They got Ringo to join because they thought Ringo would make a 'good Beatle'. Pete Best was also a limited drummer and never had the personality to be a loveable mop top! As John joked when he said Ringo was not even the best drummer in the Beatles. He also said in later years that they were cowards the way they got Epstien to dump Best. At least Best was to make over a million quid with the royalties from the Beatles Anathology album in 1995!
If Ringo wasnt a great Drummer he would never have been invited to join John Paul and George. Why do you think they asked him to join? I think they are the better judges of how good he was and is.
@CrankCase08 Anyone who knows anything about the Beatles knows that Brian was Jewish. Which means that they already had someone Jewish so they didnt need Ringo by that reckoning.
@Sixalienasa - Being the manager is not the same as being a member of an act. Managers sell their acts to other managers. It's widely recognised that Pete Best was a better drummer than Ringo Starr and there was always a lot of mystery as to why they changed. Then, miracously aftter Lennon died, it was put about that he demanded it! But the dead can't sue for slander.
@CrankCase08 " Its widely recognized " ha ha thats a good laugh Dude, you have started off my day with a big smile, I thank you for that. If Pete Best was such a great drummer, and I am not saying that he wasnt any good, then how come he didnt have any success after the Beatles? I dont know why they booted him out, he wasnt the only person ever to be booted out of a band that was about to go ballistic and he wont be the last. Widely recognized by whom by the way?
@Sixalienasa And Ringo Starr would have stayed a nobody had he not been slotted in at the right time. there are plenty of good musicians who fade from view. Pete Best faded from view because he was not attached to a money-making machine. And widely recognised by those that have heard both.
If you don't think it odd that Best, at least a pretty good drummer, was replaced by a reasonably good drummer, then you go on with your delision about your own deities.
@CrankCase08 If the reports are true then Ringo was asked to join the Band because the other Guys liked him a lot more than they liked poor Pete. I dont know what delusions about my own deities you are referring to. I certainly do not revere the Beatles or any other music maker. In fact this whole discussion about who is the best is a load of rubbish. I am sure you have better things to do. I certainly do.
@inst1g8t0r Yes, but you see it is the same thing with the guitar. Everyone thinks you are a god because you can shred extremely fast, or can pull off an extremely technical solo. But really, what makes a great guitarist is not how well you know musical theory or how fast your fingers how, but wether or not you can make your guitar evoke emotion.
Same thing goes with drumming! Ringo may not be the greatest technical drummer, but his music does have soul!
it reminds me of the "Ticket To Ride" video in Help! when the 4 of them went skiing and kept falling,,, and also there was a piano in that one too hahaha gotta <3 u ringo
@staining15 Well they are JAZZ drummers not ROCK drummers. They often get invited on TV shows to perform but rarely in the act of supporting another musician because the show's episode is set on watching them make solos not songs. They were very skilled but they are not the kind of drummers I would want if I wanted a rock band who is not a showoff. Neil Peart had surpassed his idol, Buddy Rich in my view.
"Ringo" fans.... I hope U will check out the video for my song " RINGO ". It's a very retro video with Beatleish touches. It was done as a labor of love and with the utmost respect for the Fabs. The song and video is my attempt at putting a little bit of the Beatle spirit out there for Beatle fans. It's also my tribute to George Harrison's slide playing as well as Ringo's unique style.
Corporate greed is infecting society. Fight back! We are an Unmovement: they can't destroy a resistance without members. Ringo Starr has already denied membership - iamnotamember[dot]com/#357
Record your denial now, and we will contact you when the time is right.
Well, people are talking about George's demo about this song. But according to a book called "A day in the life" by Tom Schultheiss there is a version, done completely by Ringo himself, while recording "Beaucoups of Blues" in Nashville.
I do find it possible, that George helped with the composition, but the lyrics are pure ringoisms...
So, one could even claim, that George co-wrote "Get Back", since there is a demo of him singing that Paul song!
@jrahde well, i do believe the music has a lot of George, especially the chords... pure Harrison 1970. Yet the lyrics do sound 100% Ringo. I think it's a collaboration, kinda Octopusse's Garden, although George was a real friend with Ringo and let both songs for him. BTW, get back was sang by george in 1970, during the sessions for the 'all things must pass' album, not with the beatles. anyway great song, gotta love ringo!
@paolomanueldec Ringo said in an interview that he wrote songs like It Dont Come Easy and Photograph with George. But Ringo admits he was only good for a few verses and the chorus. He would give the rest of the song to George to finish. Starr/Harrison was a great song writing team. :)
if you want to hear our RINGO do some grate drumming go to THE BEATLES TICKET TO RIDE. it look so simple but sounds so damn good. and John didnt tell Ringo to do it that way. he just did it. so cool.
Other great Ringo drumming: Tommorow Never Knows, Oh Darling, A Day In The Life, Rain, Strawberry Fields Forever, Paperback Writer, Come Together, Day Tripper, I Want You, Taxman, She Said She Said, etc. Ringo is a master of subtlety. His "simple" beats in songs like Hey Jude and In My Life make a great impact on the overall sound.
Ringo Starr--the most underrated musician of all time. People think "He can't write like the others or play as fast as other drummers", but Ringo is indeed a very talented man. Instead of just playing quickly or with lots of technical precision, he creatively makes his own blend of drumming which is easily recognized on any recording--a feat which hasn't really been done by many other drummers. On top of that, he sings, plays other instruments sometimes, and writes music! Ringo is GREAT.
I quite agree there's no drummer who sounds like Ringo Starr with his unique lefthanded approach-check out his fills on 'Blue Jay Way'-one of my fav.Ringo drum songs and the drum sound is awesome too.
@SuperStray27 Ringo is and always has been an untalented tosser that disrespects us fans and the other most talented musicians in the world that he was lucky to play with. 2 of whom have sadly passed away.
What kind of twat whose made bare money goes on you-tube to tell his fans to stop writing to him and if they do he'll burn their letters??
And we all love Blingo even though he's a hater. What a 70 year old prick.
Who cares if he's the friendliest guy in the world or a complete jerk off? He's a musician not a politician or religious figure. The guy could be a complete asshole and it wouldn't matter. You can't deny he's got talent just because you don't think he's very nice.
@SuperStray27 Trouble is, too many people think they know these stars when they dont, and accordingly project all sorts of shit onto them good and bad that often isnt true in either extreme
They were each one different but so complete in music together! The Beatles were one not four, and it never will come back, so as the Bee Gees and Abba,it was a wonderfull time!
Ringo is a damn good drummer. He is not technically good, but I think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way Paul's bass playing is underrated. I think Paul and Ringo stand up with any of the rock musicians. Not technically great -- none of us are technical musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as inspired humans to make the noise, they are as good as anybody." - John Lennon
"Ringo was a star in his own right in Liverpool before we even met. He was a professional drummer who sang and performed and had Ringo Star-time and he was in one of the top groups in Britain but especially in Liverpool before we even had a drummer. So Ringo's talent would have come out one way or the other as something or other." - Lennon, Playboy 1980 Interview
Ringo "doesn't dazzle with flashy technique and pyrotechnics," says The Cars' lead guitarist, Elliot Easton. "What he does is so much more elusive and difficult: He plays songs on the drums. Anybody who has sat down behind a drum kit in the last 45 years owes him."
Tim Riley -- "Ringo wanted to serve the songs rather than show off. As a song writer's drummer, Ringo was the type of musician who could follow instructions as he completed the overall sound. His commitment to the music was bigger than his ego." ( Tell Me Why, 1988)
Don Was -- "As a drummer, he influenced three generations of rock drummers. It's not very flashy playing, but it's very musical. Instead of just counting the bars, he's playing the song, and he puts fills in unusual places that are directed by the vocal." (The St. Louis Post Dispatch, 1992)
Kenny Arnoff -- "I consider him one of the greatest innovators of rock drumming and believe that he has been one of the greatest influences on rock drumming today... Ringo has influenced drummers more than they will ever realize or admit. Ringo laid down the fundamental rock beat that drummers are playing today and they probably don't even realize it. (Modern Drummer,Oct. 1987)
"One of Ringo's great qualities was that he composed unique, stylistic drum parts for The Beatles songs. His parts are so signature to the songs that you can listen to a Ringo drum part without the rest of the music and still identify the song." - Drummer Steve Smith

Peace,
Vinnie Zummo, former Joe Jackson guitarist

Hello you all!
So, one could even claim, that George co-wrote "Get Back", since there is a demo of him singing that Paul song!
jrahde 1 year ago
@jrahde well, i do believe the music has a lot of George, especially the chords... pure Harrison 1970. Yet the lyrics do sound 100% Ringo. I think it's a collaboration, kinda Octopusse's Garden, although George was a real friend with Ringo and let both songs for him. BTW, get back was sang by george in 1970, during the sessions for the 'all things must pass' album, not with the beatles. anyway great song, gotta love ringo!
paolomanueldec 1 year ago

@SuperStray27
I quite agree there's no drummer who sounds like Ringo Starr with his unique lefthanded approach-check out his fills on 'Blue Jay Way'-one of my fav.Ringo drum songs and the drum sound is awesome too.

technicality is relitave to time. . .
if Ringo had been around during the 80s, Im sure he would have dominated. . . . .
o56kid 1 year ago
@SuperStray27 Ringo is and always has been an untalented tosser that disrespects us fans and the other most talented musicians in the world that he was lucky to play with. 2 of whom have sadly passed away.
What kind of twat whose made bare money goes on you-tube to tell his fans to stop writing to him and if they do he'll burn their letters??
And we all love Blingo even though he's a hater. What a 70 year old prick.

@ILiveOnMyBoat
Who cares if he's the friendliest guy in the world or a complete jerk off? He's a musician not a politician or religious figure. The guy could be a complete asshole and it wouldn't matter. You can't deny he's got talent just because you don't think he's very nice.
SuperStray27 1 year ago 16
@SuperStray27 Trouble is, too many people think they know these stars when they dont, and accordingly project all sorts of shit onto them good and bad that often isnt true in either extreme

@Xmenfan246 not technically good????? his timing n style is second to none!! ok he was steady eddie...... but he was still quality!!!!!!!!!

Xmenfan246 2 years ago 3
"He was quite simply the heart of the Beatles. John Lennon on Ringo
Xmenfan246 2 years ago 3
Ringo "doesn't dazzle with flashy technique and pyrotechnics," says The Cars' lead guitarist, Elliot Easton. "What he does is so much more elusive and difficult: He plays songs on the drums. Anybody who has sat down behind a drum kit in the last 45 years owes him."
Xmenfan246 2 years ago 2
Tim Riley -- "Ringo wanted to serve the songs rather than show off. As a song writer's drummer, Ringo was the type of musician who could follow instructions as he completed the overall sound. His commitment to the music was bigger than his ego." ( Tell Me Why, 1988)
Xmenfan246 2 years ago
Don Was -- "As a drummer, he influenced three generations of rock drummers. It's not very flashy playing, but it's very musical. Instead of just counting the bars, he's playing the song, and he puts fills in unusual places that are directed by the vocal." (The St. Louis Post Dispatch, 1992)
Xmenfan246 2 years ago
Kenny Arnoff -- "I consider him one of the greatest innovators of rock drumming and believe that he has been one of the greatest influences on rock drumming today... Ringo has influenced drummers more than they will ever realize or admit. Ringo laid down the fundamental rock beat that drummers are playing today and they probably don't even realize it. (Modern Drummer,Oct. 1987)
Xmenfan246 2 years ago
"One of Ringo's great qualities was that he composed unique, stylistic drum parts for The Beatles songs. His parts are so signature to the songs that you can listen to a Ringo drum part without the rest of the music and still identify the song." - Drummer Steve Smith
