The intro/outro of this tune is worth anything...I will eventually get around to looping it so that I can play it forever: the aural equivalent of watching the sunrise and/or sunset on the beach, with the movement of the waves underneath it.
this song really captures my own self-pitying yet sardonic attitude, but makes me feel good at the same time. donald fagen is a genius and I hope he's able to produce another album before the man in the bright nightgown gets him :)
The first time that I heard this song it was a part of a muzak rotation in McDonald's. I knew it was Steely Dan. It had to be. Then i remembered that they were doing solos. One producing the other. it was on a trip to Memphis, Tennessee that I found the cd with this tune on it. I couldn't wait to get it home and add it to my collection. I love this song. The ending is the best that I've ever heard. Only Isaac Hayes could do better.
no edge to Fagen without Becker. Muzak to my ears as. John said about Paul's solo stuff
just my oppinion Dont flame me.

if you ever stood and watched the waves hit the sea shore... just close your eyes and listen to the end of this song... the images will come to you!.

As good a track as even Fagen has ever composed. This one stands up with anything from the entire Steely Dan portfolio. Simply magnificent.
