  • we use that stuff at work all the time at caterpillar to shrink bearing races and pins, from a press fit to a slip fit, its awesome to play with to :-)' by the way you make an awesome chem teacher, from the looks of it you really keep everyones attention and know how to make the class fun

  • the entire time i was watching this i wanted to make a matrix joke just because of his name, Mr. Smith

  • I BLEVE!

  • I'm more impressed by his countdown timing, to be honest.

  • Whaaaaaaaaaaaa! That's cool! Like a rocket science blast off the rocket! Awesome.

  • Whaaaaaaaaaaaa! That's cool! Like a rocket science blast off the rocket!

  • Whaaaaaaaaaaaa! That's cool!

  • This is like my highschool chem class, one day towards the end of the year out teacher brought in like 10lbs if dry ice and let us make bombs and stuff

  • Never teach kids to make pipe bombs.

  • all in the name of science

  • koo

  • were those batting gloves?

    if they were

    i'm fucking pissed

  • science and entertainment are best friends together.

  • Yeah! I´ll do that with my neighbor´s car.

  • this was great i bet all the students love this guy

  • This is a high school chem class... just a fun demo. The countdown was just a super lucky break. I did the demo 7 times that day, and this one the countdown was perfect, so it is the one that made the video! I probably could not do that again if I tried.

  • i really they taught chemistry like that over in the UK xD

  • though there's no chemistry in this particular experiment...

  • i didnt say there was, i said i wish they'd teach chemistry like that over in the UK.

And if you had read the video description you'll learn he was doing this for his chemistry class

  • Yeah... I didn't put the Chemistry in the video... but trust me, they had to endure one class period of lecture and powerpoint about low temperatures and expanding gasses before they got to see this.

  • i like how the american education system is more based on experiments than ours (hungary), it attracts more children than what we do on chem classes. however, i think that an average hungarian high school student knows much more lexical information in chem than an american student.

  • Trust me, it's not very common for a high school teacher to do a demonstration like that. When I was in HS during labs we would assemble molecules from balls and sticks and sketch them. That's how much fun we had... It all depends on the teacher, you can get chemicals no matter what country you are in, well, almost, for sure in Hungary there should be no problem at all.

  • @Shumeshi my chemistry teacher made nitrogen triodide (which is extremely unstable and a touch-sensitive explosive). he also fired cannons several times during the year (in the classroom), and he blew up balloons full of helium once or twice. we also combusted a gummy bear using potassium nitrate and created rockets out of hydrogen and oxygen.

  • how did he do such a spot on count down?

  • Haha, at the end of the vid, you could hear some students asking him how he counted that too, he just said he guesses every hour and that was the first time he was right ha.

  • yea haha i heard that and lol'd

  • this guy reminds me of my chem 1b teacher. i miss dr dave

  • i think he is delayed by 1 second :D

i wonder how he did it..

  • ya it was on the bomb

  • What grade is this class?

  • hahaa my chemistry teachers called Mr Smith too! :D

  • im prety sure every chemistry teacher is called mr smith

  • mine is

  • my teach is Mr. Smith too...but he's not that bomb!

  • You know you can hold that in the palm of your hand by the cap and nothing would happen! but dont listen to me, do some research! It is pretty cool though!

  • Its not fake. I work in bottling and have seen people injured by this. (A small amount of nitrogen is put in tea and water to make the bottles hard for packing). One example, operator goofing around fills bottle with nitrogen puts lid on and tries to sling it. It blew up while he was in his wind up and cut his fingers pretty bad.

  • this is pretty tight! why do people think its fake? obviously they are dumb. :]

  • great!

  • didya read the title bro? LIQUID NITROGEN! wasn't any dry ice in the video

  • Its liquid nitrogen, LISTEN!

  • I actually use liquid nitrogen for demos. Except we flash freeze swedish fish and stuff.

but yeah, that was not dry ice... did you see anything before he poured it in?

liquid nitrogen is some cool crap, but ever seen liquid helium?! it's crazy!

  • Lol, you count it down nicely synchronous with the explosion^^

  • where do you get this

  • where do you get that stuff?

  • he should make super conducter

  • If only I could get ahold of some pure Rubidium and Cesium and combine them with water =(

  • haha what does that do still in my junior year dont know what the results will be going ask my chem teacher >=O hope its something explosive xD

  • An incredibly huge explosion, its so explosive that the government regulates it. Its like a depth charge in a toilet basically

  • Comment removed

  • That was so cool, where do you get hold of liquid nitrogen?

  • look up liquid nitrogen and watch all the amazing things you can do with it. this is not fake.

  • Idiot.

  • prove it lol

  • Try it at home while holding it in your hand if you think this is fake.

  • I was referring to infoseekr to prove what he claims is fake. It's obviously real, duh.

  • dude its not fake.. think about it... its liquid nitrogen at 320 degrees below 0 F right?... looks like its around 70 - 80 degrees outside... so a liquid will probably turn into a gas when it enters an area about 400 degrees hotter than its liquid point... and when u seal the gas into a compressed area (like a bottle) the bottle will eventually burst

  • i wouldn't try to explain anything to someone who thinks a bottled liquid nitrogen explosion is fake, its a waste of good information.

  • So, this is for a highschool chemistry course? Your students are lucky, I wish MY highschool chemistry instructor had as much interest in the material as he did being an asshole to the students :/ I certainly hope your students appreciate what you're teaching them. I think I'm the only person that came out of the course having actually LEARNED something other than "Copper burns green".

  • do it again!!!!!!!!!!

  • kool.....do it with an iron bucket, but this time put 2liters of it...lol

  • LOL, "Do it again", you know the kids are hooked!

  • whoa nice

  • I didn't know when it would blow. Sometimes it takes 10 seconds, sometimes it takes 40. Depends on the quality of the bottle, I guess... and maybe the amount of nitrogen in it. I just got lucky!

  • How did you know it was going to blow exactly at the end of your count down?

  • asome!

  • "Do it again!" :D

  • :o thats awesome! wish i was there to see it

  • It WAS awesome... thanks.
