I think the reason most people think this sucks is because they're used to the Anime/Manga/Visual Novel adaption. Just look at this movie as another way to tell the story and don't try to relate it to the Manga/Anime/VN. I find it a whole lot more enjoyable like that.
Does anyone else notice how in the anime we never saw keiicihis parents. But now we do o_o. Or Mion or Rena or Satoko or Rika or Miyo o_o you know important details.

@tharailwaydra well its a live action movie and not many would accually let them dye there hair or wear a wig. they wanted to try and get it close to make it look like if it was in real life. but it would be awesome if they did. some live actions they do dye there hair or wear a wig. mostly if the character does trainsformation.

You know where i can watch higurashi movie 2 in eng subs? i cant find it no where and i enjoyed watching higurashi movie and how they made it. I think they did a good job on it and i know people dont understand that they cant make everything perfect just like the anime.
this is actually a pretty good representation of Hinamizawa just looking at the setting they did a pretty amazing job of it, i think the characters personalities could have been portrayed somewhat better though. other than that it was actually pretty decent ^.^

The only thing they did wrong is that Rika and Satoko are too old. Other than that, it's fine.
The problem I have with this Movie is not the hair of the characters, but the characters themselves. Mion does not act a thing like Mion nor does Rena act like Rena. She never tries to take anything home and Mion never does club activities. They're only similar to the characters in name.
It's kind of depressing they barely tried to make the characters look similar. Hell they could have at least worn similar clothing to the original characters. And wigs would have been nice as well :/

Wow, for a live-action movie this is pretty good! Sure the characters don't look the same as they did in the anime, big deal. People can just get over that. But this looks like a really solid effort that's been made and I think it'll be interesting.

The thing people don't understand is the difficulty to bring the personality of an anime character into the real. Not to mention when we are so obsessed by how the characters look. For example that Oishi isn't fat enough, Mions hair isn't green. Sure enough, some parts of the movie could've been more clear, like the scene when Keiichi says that Rena isn't a comrade. There it appears as if he's exaggerating. Despite all that, this is actually one of the more well done Live Action I've seen.
Their hair color is not that of the anime due to teh following reasons.
1= Green hair does not fucking look natural IRL, no matter how chill and badass it may appear to be in the anime.
2=It would be a lot of work to have to die everyone's hair to certain colors to match the anime just so you can 'distinguish' them more and easier. Sit closer and pay more attention to the anime.

Wow, for a live-action movie this is pretty good! Sure the characters don't look the same as they did in the anime, big deal. People can just get over that. But this looks like a really solid effort that's been made and I think it'll be interesting.

It's a live action movie. People aren't going to dye their hair green or blue, and most Japanese people unless they're bilingual, don't have blond hair.
Like I said, it's a live action movie. People aren't anime characters, and they're not going to work their hardest to look EXACTLY like people in a cartoon.
It kinda ruins the point, because in a live action move/show, they're trying to make it look like it was REAL LIFE and not an anime.

@FuzenKitsune Yet you have to agree that at least Satoko's hair should be blonde and Rika's longer..Yes I agree that they are trying to make it more realistic.But we have to admit that even if the actors aren't anime characters a little bit of more passion to show the madness and the horror wouldn't destroy it or make it anime-like.It's just that Japanese have GREAT voice actors but when it come to live action they need to put some more of it.

I have not seen this yet, but I will be starting now so I will be able to give my own opinion later.
However, I do not agree with what you said. Nor do I agree with what other people are saying.
How the characters look, its common sense that they will look different. If they didn't, every live action movie of an anime or game would look like a cosplay festival. However...
Staying true to the series for the most part is a must, and the same feeling must be present.

Yes. I get your point. Even if they wanted to look like the anime they could use wigs. BUT the japanese RARELY USE wigs for those people who bish about it.
I like it and the trailer on the website encouraged me enough. I do speak japanese and I DO try to live like a normal japanese person. Things about manga and live action, some of them try to fit the anime. I looked at rena's sleves when keiichi was walking in slo mo. Looked like the original in the anime. Mion is scary though.

Finishing up the manga...
months after being unsatisfied with the anime and how I was left at such a dead end.
Bought both season 1&2 dvd box set's.
I think the manga is better honestly, and im on the last chapter in Tsumihoroboshi-hen.

I only mentioned Season 1 and Kai...
And by that I was only pointing out that I had personally purchased When They Cry and When The Higurashi Cry Kai. I never mentioned Rei or the fact that Rei never existed :)
I like Rei, But 5 OVA's isnt good enough for me!

The thing people don't understand is the difficulty to bring the personality of an anime character into the real. Not to mention when we are so obsessed by how the characters look. For example that Oishi isn't fat enough, Mions hair isn't green. Sure enough, some parts of the movie could've been more clear, like the scene when Keiichi says that Rena isn't a comrade. There it appears as if he's exaggerating. Despite all that, this is actually one of the more well done Live Action I've seen.

Their hair color is not that of the anime due to teh following reasons.
1= Green hair does not fucking look natural IRL, no matter how chill and badass it may appear to be in the anime.
2=It would be a lot of work to have to die everyone's hair to certain colors to match the anime just so you can 'distinguish' them more and easier. Sit closer and pay more attention to the anime.
