NYPD 44th PCT - Sept 1989 - 3 Wheel Scooter

Hi - could you tell me why the NYPD uses these scooters for? I saw some the last time I was in New York and I don't see why they would be used instead of a patrol car for example. Thanks.

Hey Rudy I aways wondered if those things had heaters in them to keep warm. You know I live in a small town and with gas the way it is I wouldn't mind owning one these days. I had a close friend and neighbor who was on the Mounted Division out of the Pelham Bay PD Stables Capt Joe Quintonie and he use to take us for rides on the PD horse when he was on patrol in the neighborhood. The Mounted Division would be a great detail in the sumer time..
