For some reason--I don't think of this clip as funny--more like touching. The 20th centuryJewish experience is one of ceaseless worrying and hard work. We forget how tough these old-school English-learning Yiddish speakers had it!
Sorry that the good ol' Yiddish accent is dying out. I remember it so fondly from my childhood. My cousin and I still talk to each other with stong put-on Yiddish accents and it never fails to crack us both up!
This is something my family - especially my father - would have done for us, for our own endlessly creative and silly family entertainment at the dinner table or with friends/relatives at a holiday gathering.
Just a small detail, but it's not a Hassidic Theatre riff, but a now-classic Eastern European Jewish (Yiddish as you say in title) accent! Regardless, thanks for the JOY! :o)
This is harder than it seems. Just being able to do a Yiddish accent won't cut it. Try a bisl and you'll see what I mean. Or try this other "Showgoat tune: Fheesch gotta svim, boids gotta fly, etc.

If you like this, also search for Stan Freberg's "Elderly Man River" - audio clips are on the internet, no videos hat I can find.

I liked Mary's old apartment much better --- it had so much character. The one where Rhoda lived upstairs and Phyllis lived downstairs. ;-)

Very funny, and it just shows what can be done with intonation, gestures and speech patterns.
