Back then the experienced vets were up at the front. I wish it was like that today. It was amazing how guys in their 50s such as AL unser Sr. and drivers in their 40s were still qualifying on the front row and winning indycar races. Now drivers start when their 19 and are done with top level racing by the time they are in their mid 30s I have so much respect for the old veterans of the sport bcuz their longevity was so admirable especially when the cars were alot more dangerous back then.
Plus those vets got that way by having a good head on their shoulders. Not by doing stupid moves or such.
And I don't think any current IRL driver would do what Danny Sullivan did in 89' if faced with such an injury. Nowadays it'd be the end of the season for them.
@tuso2k6 And now we have Marty NA$CAR-shill Reid. Why?!
I almost weep for the future of broadcasting for motor racing. Who are we left with after Page, Varsha, Joy, Bestwick, Jenkins, Sheheen, etc (all 45+ years old) are retired? Todd freakin' Harris?
I've been looking for the Indy Racing version of ABC's "I Wandered by a Brookside" theme! I've already found the MLB, college football & basketball, Pro Bowlers Tour, and "Monday Night Football" versions.
Anyone noticing Paul Page stating Little al as a 4-time winner at 1:15? Slight mistake as he probably wanted to say Al Unser Sr.

Paul Page was the best american racing's commentator ever. As good as Murray Walker for the F1!
