  • Shrek?

  • what a remarkable song, sung by a remarkable musician that is John Cale.....

  • Ich weiß nicht, die Version ist mir irgendwie unsympathisch. die Streicher sind was zu unruhig, es wirkt dadurch verkrampft.

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • hey this is the shrek song. wow its amazing. almost makes me wanna cry. love it

  • Magnifico.

  • to me the string instruments dont mix with the song.

  • marvelous :D

  • I love this song. Thank you for sharing. Nadine

  • Well John Cale never could sing. Not even 50 years ago when he was young. He had the famous limited range that makes it seem more like he was reading poetry than singing. But the song was nothing for 8 years until John Cale did his cover. Now, people are going back and appreciating the Leonard Cohen version, but for the most part they would have never heard of the song if it wasn't for Cale. I understand that there are over 200 covers of the song that have now been recorded.

  • It is a little like, Suzanne, one of the first Cohen songs.

Judy Collins and Harry Belafonte put "Suzanne" into the public consciousness. However, once people heard her sing it, they would go back and listen to Cohen sing it himself.

  • I meant Leonard Cohen never could sing.

  • John Cale could sing!!! What do you talking about? I love how he sing!!!!!!

  • The strings are heard too much, and the voice contains excess of reverb, but the voice is very good.

  • I love this version...

  • I think it is kind of funny the person who put Leonard Cohen's version at the bottom of the list since he was the person who wrote the song! (laugh), I guess you have to have a certain type of taste for Leonard Cohen but I think his version is great as well as Buckley's and Cale's.

  • Absolutely Beautiful!

  • just have a look at the version dekkers posted. J.C. solo on piano!

  • This is a wonderful version of the song . Thank you for TRYING to give the lyrics but only the first two verses are sung by Cale in this version. You gave the lyrics for one of Leonard Cohen's versions. There are somewhere between 12 and 15 verses written by Cohen .. in a book of his lyrics/poetry there are I believe 11 printed . I have seen the lyrics misprinted on a CD before so you are not the first to .

  • thanks for saying it to me, i didn't notist it, i will say it to the friend of me who added the lyrics.

  • leroy briljant idee van die lyric in je beschrijving

  • ja he goed idee

  • leepie zet er een lyric bij bijv in de beschrijving

  • My favourite versions of this song go as.

    Jeff Buckley

    KD Lang

    Leonard Cohen

    John Cale

  • bersaba - what is the point of posting your favorite versions with cale dead last? to incite? to annoy? to highlight your lack of taste? or perhaps i have misunderstood and you put them in reverse order, with cale's version being 1st and buckley's 4th. now that makes more sense .... mea culpa.

  • How about the fact that, as a human being, I'm allowed a personal taste, and given that this was the first time I heard this version, and I have heard other versions, I shared with other people that may read these comments my PERSONAL feelings towards the versions of the song.

I found out about this version from someone else saying it was their favourite. Maybe other people might not have known of or heard JB's version.

Point is, get off your high horse. It was a legit comment not a troll.

  • ok - of course - you are entitled to your opinion. i am trying to recollect why i wrote what i did. it was sometime ago. posting here is so contextual. what applied 3 months ago may no longer apply.

  • I agree with MordecaiAndMe, the is no problem with your opinion it is just your comment is very out of context that is all.OH AND DON'T MARK ME DOWN JUST BECAUSE OF THE SIDE I HAVE CHOSEN IN AN ARGUMENT WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A COMMENT

  • as much of a fan of string music as i am..i don't really think it fits this song..well done however.
