Am I alone in thinking that the Morlocks are more interesting than the Eloi? The former are at least still capable of maintaining and using machinery and of producing their own food whereas the latter may look like idealised versions of ourselves but are in fact completely useless. Why not put them in the cooking pot? Our hero should return with books on engineering, medicine and science and show the Morlocks how to reach the stars while chowing down on a tasty McEloi burger and large fries!
The three light bulbs on George's time machine, were colored red, yellow, and green. The same colors were used in the digital display of the time circuts in the movie "Back to the Future"
Brilliant movie!! It's one of those classics that makes you want to know what happened after... Although it's a bit different from the book... i would have liked him to go to the very end of time... anyway, thanks so much for the upload!!!!
My thanks to the poster. I saw this in the movies as a young boy. Far superior to the 2002 remake in its simplicity and simple story telling, and much closer to the Wells story. If they ever attempt another remake, hopefully they'll show the part of the story further into the future and the truly bizzare world that Wells created. The source material is so good.
If you look closely as George drags his machine back into the laboratory (Part 10), you can see the books resting on the chair seat! It is believed that at least one of the books he would have taken on his journey back to Weena would be the Bible.
@Titan752 That would actually make sense. If you had to start a new civilisation from scratch you could not start with higher physics right away (and he has probably memorised most or all of the school physics so he won't need a book for that). The first thing you would have to built would be a culture. Some history the likes of which the eloi are completely devoid of. A collection of stories would be a start.
I am 18 and while my friends are watching the newest films, aka, AIRHEAD MOVIEs...i watched this movie. It is a classic and i love it. I couldnt agree more with the previous comments, regarding, how modern films are pure trash....if only i could go bcak in time...LOL
I've seen this film at least 20 times and didn't know until today that the guy who played Philby, also played Wilbur on Mr. Ed. The relationship the two of them had, helped make this a great film.
Oh what a superb movie!!! Excellent flow, beautiful dialogs and scripts, and yet so simple. I wish they would make movies like these today, but how can that be possible? When the human being of today has an every growing hunger for violence and brutality. There were a bunch of other movies I remember from my child hood, not sure about the exact names, but one was when they invented a really high cable car or a chair lift and it gets stuck....can you please post that one too? Thank you very much!
Oh what a splendid movie!!! Simple, well defined, superb dialog delivery. If only they would make such movies today, but how can that be possible? When the human of today has an insatiable hunger for violence, sex and brutality. This movie had everything, romance adventure, action all in marvelous equilibrium. Thank you so very much for posting this master piece.
Wow. Amazing movie! Though I enjoyed both, I think this one is more detailed verbally and just intellectually, even though not as much visually as the 2002 one, but that's all were about these days, how things look, not content. Basically I liked this slightly more. Thank you for the upload so much!
your assesment is quite right. That's why i hate hollywood movies nowadays. I prefer to watch indie, low budget or international films that are based on content rather than commercial appeal.
Incredibly Beautiful upload! I have a few copies of this remarkably magical film on DVD, including the Collector's Edition Boxed Set released a few years ago! It came with an actual film cel and reproduction lobby cards and theatrical poster! Now that this classic is on YouTube, I can obtain a new archived copy for flashdrive storage! Thanks so much for posting this gem! it is...'timeless!'

Saw this when I was 14 and loved it. But what 3 books would you bring to a new world?? What would you read to Weena?
dan1oval 2 years ago 16
This movie is the real deal.
Hollywood just keeps getting worse and worse these days.
They butcher the story, then add some Leftist propaganda, to come up with garbage.
I will go see the Hobbit when it's released in theaters but anything else I'll wait for the DVD.

I do have to admit that this was the best movie version of the story. The moronic 2002 remake was not done very well. You have my thanks.

Love the movie ending.
"Only which 3 books would you have taken?" --one of the greatest movie quotes ever. Really a great question to ask the audience.
