True, no one could foresee Facebook, Twitter or YouTube taking over but in the big scheme of all things, they have the same social sharing functions that are predicted. In 2005 no one would see the smartphone boom coming in a couple of years, making it so much easier for the these things to work into your lives. If anything, the real internet is ahead of schedule.
Well, this was a pretty solid guess for this being made in...what 2005-2006? They did at least get two of the 6 major sites correct: google and amazon. Of course, who would have predicted facebook, youtube, twitter, and wikipedia? I suppose they should get credit for youtube too, since google technically owns it. They also kind of got a weird combination of twitter, foursquare, and wikipedia with the Epic thing.
Wikipedia wasn't a major impact then, it was founded in 2001. It was around for afew years when this made if this was even made past 2001. I know your comment is afew months, I just wanted to point this out. But you've made a solid point, either way. ;)
Google owns so much crap it is unfathomable. They have more money than they know what to do with. I wonder how long it will take for Google to buy Microsoft, or if Bill Gates would ever sell his company to his rival, it's not like he needs the money anyway.
Congrats, you are officially missing the entire point of this video. It was showing how that newspapers were becoming obsolete and how the internet becomes more and more prominent in our lives creating a world where we are all part of a system where we all are a part of it and our lives becomes all online.
If Google would not aquire Amazon, but Twitter, then you have the social profile informatin up to date of millions of people and what they are interested in - this would be the social grid or say GoogleGrid - we will see if they buy it. Then Google could really weigh the importance of news and interestes real time and connect it to their search engine
They already do this by spidering Twitter. That is one reason I try not to use TinyURL in my tweets so my own site links are spidered directly even though they are not followed. (nofollow)
Google uses this just like they do social bookmarking sites. They follow and count the links. The more Diggs, the more votes, the more relevance.
ooooh...... no discussion of democracy? wooo like this ever happened before!!! Howsa bout that things happen as random processes and there is never really any discussion because it would be trivial and besides the point anyway?
this is true but not nice, there are good things about this huge network and new media, but a lot of bad ones, globalization corruption and absolute fascism, the last part. Filtered Filtered is very key, there would be a small number of people controlling epics content, they could control knowledge and keep people as ignorant as they want.
Actually, YouTube may accelerate parts of the process, especially since Google owns YouTube. It's the video component of EPIC. Consider how trivial most of the uploads are, but yet many are treated as a news source. Especially the video blogs.

Interesting how they mention each user gets a tiny cut of Google's profit based on their contributions. Hmmm....YouTube Partnership program anybody?

This was released in 2004, before things like Facebook, Twitter or Youtube... Would love to see an updated one of these for today's internet!

I saw this years ago but I did not get the social demographics side of things.
Now that I am heavily involved in Google Friend Connect I get the much larger picture now.
Kinda blew me away when I combine what I know about GFC and Google Social Networking today.

Yeah Youtube and Facebook, Myspace etc. all left out BECAUSE - this is a New York Times ad using scare tactics to boost their sales.

Nope. The original was created 2004 and youtube was launched 2005. Facebook wasn't any popular at that time either.
