All of this discussion about the belts is pretty irrelevant. I've seen students that were in the school for years that had just made their brown belt barely, meanwhile there's students that hung out at purple belt with skills comparable to black belt. Hard work, discipline, technique and speed, with a mix of raw talent, and the belt becomes nothing more than a status symbol.

yeah most martial arts you need to be 18 to get your black belt, but its not the belt thats important, if your just doing martial arts for the belt you shouldnt be even doing it. just go buy one.

not true...look at sina choe she was 4 when she got her black belt. Age has nothing to do with a black belt. Determination, discipline, technique, etc. All determine a black belt.

he means a senior blackbelt in taekwon do only. i dont know the rules in other disciplines.

thats true to some extent. but how much discipline, technique and determination and simply maturity can like a 10 or 12 year old have? especially in the US lol. so im partial, but if a kid has got that...then by all means. i just find it quite unlikely

a lot my friend, i joined my TKD club when i was 12 and i took it EXTREMELY seriously! But yeah, I'm one of very few kids that age that have that amount of discipline, technique, and determination. Let alone I'm from Canada :P

I agree with you, don't get me wrong. But there is still kids at really young ages that take it seriously. Can't deny the fact about that.

thats good man...i'm one of those kids, and the reason i say that is cuz i was the only kid my age that had the discipline and whatnot so thats good to hear =] i was ready when i was that age lol

@Biohazard1369 WTF rules say you need to be 15 or 16 to get your true black belt you need to just retest when you turn that age but any instructor can just give out belts its all different and besides its just a blet that doesn't even keep your pants up

You simply don't give a 4 year old a black belt... They need to be both mentally and physically mature.

Plus, The U.S. is notorious for having masters that give black belts away, WAY Too easily. Mainly because they themselves got their title ether dishonestly.

@Biohazard1369 if you go threw some Mcdojo black belt factory, yes. but a REAL school you cant even start little dragons till 3 or 4 and they go threw the little dragons belt system and when they get to little dragon black belt they then move to normal white belt

@Biohazard1369 if you have a black belt at the age of four(which to me sounds unlikely figuring that it takes atleast 3-4 years to finish).Anyways, anyone under 16 gets a poom, which is like a black belt but is just like a substitute until they become 16.
