  • Major Classic

  • This is superb comfort music

  • I meant Sheffield Wednesday come out to this at kick-off :)

  • SWFC

  • better than most of the tripe that was circulating circa 1984. bit too bonoesque for me..

  • Reminds me of Now Thats What I call Music 1, first album I got for my walkman, Played this song to death. Great times. Class song.

  • I heard a trance remix of this song but never the original. This way better.

  • gotta love these guys...live in concert was the best!

  • go away u lot

  • waterhole :!! clydeside we miss u xx

  • The greatest track they ever did in my opinion...class

  • @alan59able nope not greatest but a great one i agree

  • awsome band :-)

  • Good LP but not as good as New Gold dream.Though Sons and Fascination/ Sister Feeling Calls was their most inventive, atmospheric release.

  • Epic bass, and to peak or not to peak before Sparkle in The Rain is jus a state mind. It's funny, now take U2, I sort of thougth the same, they peaked with Joshua Tree, as did Simple Minds too, but then I came around and it was jus me who had peaked. I stood still in the 80' and 90' they didn't. :-)

  • Epic intro bass indeed!

  • That synthesizer part from 2:05 to 2:19 is just completely euphoria inducing. Has a similar effect on me as listening to The Associates' "Skipping" and countless Cocteau Twins songs. I don't know what it was about Scottish bands from that period but they really captured something magical. Unfortunately for Simple Minds, by the time of Sparkle in the rain they had already peaked. The singles were great but the album overall was a disappointment. The new gold dream was all to brief.

  • Step in Step out of sin, That's what I did though out my Life.

  • The Minds were a power house of show biz...these Scottish kids did it before U2. Both bands were bred into a fairly small UK/IRISH community and with such good grace......

  • wat a belter of a tune by the minds takes me back pure quality!!!!!

  • Brilliant,brilliant,brilliant.

  • hasn't always been that way youth?

  • This is class, music these lacks this sort of intensity!!

  • classic minds!

  • 1984

  • As an eighties kid,I just love this band. There is NOTHING to touch this era.80s were the best.wow I feel old.

  • @Sornpumpkin with you there totally mate especially if you were from the uk loads of great bands !! the mighty clash were still doing there thing !! the fashion was great casual wear just got big !! glasto was the number one festival in the world unlike now !! i wouldnt go if you payed me far too corperate !! stonehenge free festivals were still rocking and at the end of the 80s along came ecstasy and the free raves till that got taken over by big buisness !! thank god i was around then !!

  • this album is fantastic. it's impossible to say which song is better than the other one. I'd listening to SM for all day long!!

  • 'Move on up! Strong Solid Song...Highly Joyous and Energetic!'Hits Rock Bottom and Still blows ma socks off...! Step it Up...Freedom..!!! Nothing more,Nothing Less.....

  • I can play the intro.

  • favorate song of all time

  • I'm sure I was born about 20 years late :S

  • @cimino39 i enjoyed reading that comment

  • I REALLY like this album. it has so much energy and always makes for a good listen. I don't understand why people don't speak much about simple minds these days when they speak of the smiths, joy division, etc. they were just as good a band and put out some great albums.

  • @faceinembryo lets not get ahead of ourselves

  • @thundertower you shouldn't troll, especially if you don't know your stuff

  • first 8 seconds remind me of roadhouse blues - the doors

  • masterpiece

  • @sidandmoi ye u got it :-)

  • Too bad the original video isn't on youtube. Always looked forward to seeing it on mtv back in the day. Thanks for posting this though so we don't have to just listen to the live version.

  • And today we have Lady Gaga, Justin Beaver...rap?

  • @oakleyfan Lady Gaga isn't all bad....

  • that bass is awesome, they used to come on to this!

  • Sorry but whoever thinks Simple Minds is better than U2, better do some song research before saying that. Not all the best songs are the hits. They're very different bands and styles of music, though (like this from '84 sounds a little like U2 from '81, but barely because Simple Minds is so different it's weird to compare the two). It's interesting that at points they have similar sounds...maybe because both had Steve Lillywhite as producer for several albums?

  • I love the sampled single note bass. Always ahead! The drums are just huge

  • born in the 90's teenage now but yet i prefer mostly 80's and 90's because there was soming different each decade but now we have only a FEW good bands now because everything has allready been invented.

  • @BritishToby

You just have to look alittle harder, good stuff is still out there. I was born in 69 and still find some good bands, but the 80's did produce some really origional artists. Try listening to The adventures, The Associates, Tears for Fears, Yazoo

  • @TheSimonRowell I was born in 1952. The best bands now are Metallica and Megadeth. There are a lot of newer upcoming bands that will become famous very soon such as the band called Demon Boy. Also some older bands are making a come back with new albums such as the Scandinavian band OZ and singer Messiah Marcolin (ex-Candlemass)

  • @BBINGHAM032352

Metallica and Megadeth? I was born in 1991, grow up mate

  • @DaRkPlUm Obviously my listening tastes are more eclectic than yours. I am able to listen to ANY type of music and find enjoyment. I will concede that the band Simple Minds are much better musicians than most of the heavy metal bands of today. But I also enjoy modern and classic blues, folk music, rock music from all decades (especially 1963-1966). So as far growing up...it doesn't get any better than this. I appreciate the musician ship for what it is. I like the sound of electric guitar.

  • @BBINGHAM032352

No, my tastes are quite electric thanks. I just think that bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Disturbed, Korn... I could go on forever, will never be as good as back in the days of Simple Minds, The Smiths, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Cult, Steve Vai, The Doors etc. Who were original, inventive and actually carried a level of soul and sophistication. These were the kings of Rock and I truly believe, every band in this day and age will aspire to be no more than peasants.

  • @DaRkPlUm So what do you think of the new Alice Cooper album?

  • Sorry but I think Simple Minds were better by far than u2 what a fantastic voice two favourites of mine Waterfront and Chelsea girl.

  • @ellielilac2 YOUR SO WRONG, I LOVE SIMPLE MINDS AND THEY HAD A GREAT SOUND BUT U2 IS BY FAR A BETTER GROUP...DIG DEEP INTO U2'S VAULTS AND IT'S AN EYE OPENER

  • Epic!

  • what a legend of a song. Grew up with it, it grew up in me for 20 years, never left me, will stay with me forever. Proper milestone

  • Sorry but I think Simple Minds were better by far than u2 what a fantastic voice two faverites of mine Waterfront and Chelsea girl.

  • @ellielilac2 i agree 100%

  • what can i say in de jaren 80 gingen we naar dordrecht en de newe wawe tijd was indien tijd echt te gek

  • what can i say

  • simple Minds.scottish? stehen für mich mit U2 auf einer Stufe.

  • @TheDepeche68 Yeah Scottish, but I think U2 might have had the 'edge' so to speak!!

  • @603mac they were both good in their early days but i think the minds were far superior to u2 in terms of versitilaty and musical inventiveness. x

  • @TheDepeche68 they are irishs too....

  • Pure genius. Can't rate it highly enough.

  • as a toryglen boy i adore this music ;)

  • @tubedazz Absolutely yes that would make it so much more meaningful you are lucky! :-P
