  • hi! great job! it takes skill and courage to go and perform something like this on the streets! is there a way i could download this song?? thank you :)

  • @jaina617: Thanks for your support! I don't see the usual "download" or "purchase" link for the music on this video, which is something that has appeared on my other videos. So I don't think there is a way to download it. Sorry!

  • Graceful movements... good luck to you.

  • @ksmanjunatha : Thank you!!

  • Wonderful performance. Incredible . The mudras , the poise , but if you don't mind me telling u this . Please polish the fast beats and the mudras what I mean is I found a few fast steps where in the mudras and the beats were too hurriedly put across .... Trust it was one of best performances . I loved it

  • @chintuskp: Thank you so much for your support and for your advice - I appreciate all of it!!

  • Fantastic .....and elegant..........and stylish. I FELT IN LOVE WITH YOU IN JUST 2 MINUTES. WOULD YOU LIKE TO PERFORM THE SAME SHOW ON THE STREETS AND SQUARES OF FAMOUS ITALIAN TOWNS LIKE ROMA, VENEZIA, MILANO AND FIRENZE (ROME, VENICE, MILAN, FLORENCE)?

  • @FrancescoCasta: Thank you so much!! And, to answer your question: yes, yes, yes, yes and yes! :)

  • Very good dance and you are amazing. The only thing I would like to ask is why on the street? Thank you for the video..... Cheers!!

  • @akashi3000: Thank you for the support!! You're great! :) And to answer your question: I chose to perform in an open-air market because I felt it was a wonderful opportunity to share the beauty of Indian culture with people who would not otherwise have a chance to experience it. And I believe that the more we know about each other's cultures, the more we will be able to create peace on this planet!

  • I will discribe you in 3 words. "You are amzing". Your dance is great, one of the best i have ever seen.

  • @broniadiana: You are so kind - thank you!!

  • I appreciate you for having time to reply to all of ur comments.! You have a great potential to become a great International Artist.! Keep entertaining us.. Good luck Jai.!

  • @kichathedelver: I will, I promise. :) Thank you!

  • @pcermomb: My favorite places in India: Amritsar, Dharamsala, Bangalore, Rajasthan (actually, I've never been there, but I know I would love it!), and Agra (the Taj Mahal was breathtaking!). And I'd really love to perform at the festivals in Chennai. What an honor that would be!

  • @JaiKhalsa Nice... And, can you say three things that you didn't like about India. :-) It's okay. Be frank. I think everybody would agree that India is a country of stark contrasts.

  • @pcermomb: I wouldn't say I disliked anything, but there are definitely aspects that I found challenging... the huge gap between the wealthiest and the poorest, the places where we (foreigners) were allowed but locals were forbidden or unwelcome, and the people in power - authorities - who abused their power. Of course all these things are true everywhere in the world, not just in India...

  • @prksandeep: Thank you for your support! Many blessings to you too!

  • Very neat dancing, you have good technique. I think there could be more devotional expression in your performance though, especially in the eyes. Otherwise great performance, especially out there on the street sharing Indian culture. I'd be too nervous to do that! :-)

  • @pushpanjali: I'm sure you could do it! :) Thanks for your support, and also for your feedback. I will be sure to work on that element. Many blessings to you!

  • Hi, Ur performances are amazing. Ur mudras and bhava with your control are pretty accurate. I know how much practice is required for such a performance. Keep it up. I hope you are going thru the lyrics of the songs. Go thru and understand them word by word once for every song you learn. These classical songs ooze bhakti. When the right emotion takes over you when you perform, truly, that is bliss. I am just saying this out of appreciation. I am sure you know all this, given your performance.

  • @pcermomb: This was so kind of you to say, and I appreciate the helpful feedback as well. Thank you!!

  • Bliss!

Superb performance...enjoyed every bit. Grace, dignity, expressions, footwork everything is perfectly in place. The inner beauty of the artist reflects in her performance and the still poses were sheer delight to watch, seemed like paintings. I wish Jai Khalsa the very best in her quest for performing arts, and choosing Bharatnatyam speaks volumes for her understanding of the dance art form. Keep up the good work Jai, & thanks for this priceless tube.

  • @qiron: Again!?! You're amazing. Thank you!!

  • @JaiKhalsa No Jai, you are....

  • Nice to see a beautiful woman so colourfully dressed doing such an articulate dance among such boring surroundings and drab people.

  • @RonAlmeida: Next time I'll dress the audience in Rajasthani garb...

  • I'am an Indian (Tamil Nadu), currently In USA... My classmates have me bugging me for a while to show them a good music video of Barathanatiyam performance-- and Of Course, I wanted to show them a good performance...I wasn't convinced by anyone else's video so far... LOVE YOURS!!! I ma Gonna show it to my all of my classmates.. I would love to see you dance for "Margazhi thingal allava" also ma'm :) KEEP THE AWESOME WORK UP!!! I"M A BIG BIG BIG FAN OF YOU NOW :))

  • @Akshaya94: You are the sweetest person on the planet!! Thank you! I appreciate your kind words, and I REALLY appreciate you sharing my videos with your classmates; that's the highest compliment! :) All the best to you.

  • @JaiKhalsa You certainly deserve it ma'm :)

P.S. Ma friendz loved itt!!! Thanks a ton...

  • @Akshaya94 :)

  • I respect you sooo muchhh. I am dancer myself. I learnt dance on my own. I am an ardent fan of Indian And world classical dances. I try to make up my own dance... I completely respect your conviction, dedication and grit. I am actually speechless. Just water in my eyes with happiness. :) Hats off Jai :)

  • @Prajwal290: Wow. You learned dance on your own? No teacher? Hats off to YOU! That's amazing! I am grateful to hear from you, to know you're out there creating your own pieces. It's challenging, but very fulfilling! Keep up - and thank you for your incredibly kind words of support! Much love!

  • Enjoyable! Keep it up. God bless you.

  • @subramanianvb: Thank you! (Very belated, but still very grateful!)

  • ooooooh awesome dance......I love you again :) every time i see your video i fall i love....super dance.....:)

  • @srikanthlee143: Thank you for your sweet support!

  • Superb Performance.... Hars off to u.... I am an X bharatnatyam dancer..... and seeing u just makes me so so happy...:) would love to see ur oerformance in person.... do u always perform in 3rd street? When can we see it again??

  • @radsub: Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment - this is a belated response, I know, but I really appreciate your support and wanted to make sure I said so!

Regarding performances on 3rd Street, I haven't been down there lately, but I hope to go some time within the next few months. After my current projects are completed. I'll keep everyone posted. Do you live in the area? How wonderful it would be to see you there!

  • Awesome performance.. very impressed

  • @jaybeesathya: Thank you! (Very belated!!)

  • More than the performance part im really impressed by ur dedication towards the artform ,an unusual platform to perform bharatnatyam infront of audience who have no clue about it .

BRAVO ...GOD BLESS YOU TO SUCCEED AND REACH THE HEIGHTS OF FAME IN THE FIELD U HAVE CHOSEN

  • @sriturlapati: THANK YOU so much for your support and encouragement. I appreciate it! Blessings to you!!

  • Loved your performance! Bravo! Keep up the good work! do you have a website which hosts all your performances ?

  • @acidburns3: Hi there! Thank you and thank you! :) For the moment, this is the only site that hosts my performance videos. When that changes, I will be sure to let you know. And I hope to be able to upload more soon. I appreciate your support. Many blessings to you!

  • I see you have understood the lyrics and brought it as a expression in your movements.! lovely it was ,so was the song.! Good luck JAI.! :)

  • @kichathedelver: Thank you SO much!! :)

  • hi madam... it was great performance.... i dont know what made you to choose BHARATHNATYAM, it made me very happy by seeing your performance, a small advice to you madam... i am missing some tenderness in your finger movements they are supposed be very relaxed.. apart from that you are awesome... sorry if i am wrong..... because i dont have that much knowledge in BHARATHNATYAM, but i see it regularly....

  • @hanumanth03: Hi there! Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback - I really appreciate it, and I am sure you are correct. I will be sure to work on that. And THANK YOU for such kind words of support!

  • well practiced, well performed. wher in south india did u learn bharatham?

u seem to be a very cheerful & bubbly character. It shows off on ur face. lovely smile u've got. keep up the good work, jai. lov ya, frm india.

  • @swatigemini: Thank you and thank you! I studied in Bangalore, at a small school based out of Bharathi Vidya Bhavan. Eventually continued my studies with a Kalakshetra-trained Guru in the U.S. I am very grateful to have had those opportunities, and I'm also very grateful for your kind support. Blessings to you in India! :)

  • It needs a lot of courage to do Bharatanatyam in just a public place (foreign audience) and also a great love for the art to do it immaterial of the interest of the audience! hats off to you madam.

  • @lprasai: Thank you! (Very belated!)

  • I do agree with the comments @melody9376. But I would request you to do a performance on the Stage at least once in Chennai, we would be so thrilled to see you on stage. You are So amazing and perfect... Hats off to you.

  • @masrajeshkumar: This is long overdue - my apologies - thank you so much for your comment! I do hope to have an opportunity to perform in Chennai at some point in my dance career. I'd be thrilled! :)

  • Love your dancing...I always preferred kathak to any other Indian dancing but you're absolutely amazing to watch. very enjoyable and graceful. And you're beautiful, too!

  • @fruity199: A very belated reply, but I hope that doesn't diminish my message. Which is: thank you!!! Your words are so kind. I appreciate your support.

  • there is divinity in your dance, jai. that is the ultimate aim of any bharathanatyam dancer..to bring out the divinity in dance and spread to evy1.some of ur expressions are jus similair to shobana..dont know whether you know her..she is an actress cum dancer in tamilnadu.i wanna know one things:1.where did u learn it?.kalakshetra in chennai?.

  • @arjunviswan: Thank you (very belatedly) for your very kind words! A comparison to Shobana is incredibly generous of you; I accept it humbly and gratefully. As for my roots, I studied first at a small school in Bangalore, then I continued my studies with a Kalakshetra-trained Guru in the United States. It's been an incredible journey - thank you for being a part of it!

  • If you love art with as much passion as you do it does not matter whether it is the middle of the road or wherever nothing can distract or take away the concentration and love for what you are doing.

A godliness is there and a sense of trying to do it with perfection and passion is there GOOD LUCK

  • @melody9376: Wonderful words, and a very wise observation as well. Thank you so much for sharing it with everyone - and thank you for your support! You're great!

  • @melody9376

hello this one is a nataraja keeertanam there is another 1 which song is

    "PRANAMU PRATIDINA HEY NATARAJA

    NARATANANU ARAPUJANA ARCHANA"

"IF U HAVE ALREADY UPLOADED IT OR IF U HAVE IT CAN U PLZ SND ME Z SONG OR GVE ME Z LINK ON YOU TUBE" THKS

  • @Radhika3012: Hi there! Pardon my long overdue reply to your comment. Sadly I do not have the keertanam you asked about - no video, no audio either - so I can't help with that. But good luck finding it! :)

  • @JaiKhalsa ok thks

  • hey... nadanam is lyk my favourite song in the whole of bharatanatyam nd uve done gr8 justice to it.... very beautiful indeed...keep it up nd do more nd more such videos cuz its amazing...

  • @lavanya2994: Thank you!

  • the song's an asset.it's too good music

  • @federerroddickhero: Agreed, it's a very good piece of music. Beautifully done. Thanks!

  • you are wonderful b'coz u r so dedicated and concentrated.

i wonder how u r dancing in a public place.

  • @federerroddickhero: It's very fulfilling to share something you love with people who've never experienced it before... I guess that's how I found the courage to step into a very public space and just begin dancing!.... that, plus I have a LOT of support from many wonderful people! :)

  • bless you....Your Dance is liberating...seen your other vedios too...You Dance for yourself, thats what its depicting and thats why were watching spellbound! All The Best!!!:)

  • @paddbadd24: Thank you! You're so kind, and I am so grateful to you for taking the time to share these words and well-wishes with me. Blessings to you!

  • the performance is realy nice

  • @depbm: Thanks very much!

  • really very good...abinayam, thalam and everything was perfect

  • @sreesha84: Thank you!

  • Having attended many "Arangetrams" etc in UK, personally - I think you were awesome! You dance from the heart, and in my view, your expressions were good enough to communicate. Perfection lies in the eyes of the beholder. I am glad you are not perfect, for it enables you to always strive to be better. Iif you ever perform in London, I would love to attend! You are infinetely better than the easterners who calim they are good. Dance has no language or creed. God bless. sambandan@aol.com

  • @sidhasambandan: Thank you so much for this wise and fresh perspective. It's too true: be glad to be imperfect, which is in itself a form of divine perfection, and continue to strive for another level. I appreciate your support, and I do look forward to eventually coming to London for performances. Until then, be well!

  • I have to agree, you have great potential if you learn learnt the meaning of the music. You have great musicality and i really do love that you are bring art to the people. Where are you performing this?

    Keep up the great work.

  • @eastexotic: Thank you, I appreciate your support and encouragement. This particular performance was done at an open air market in Santa Monica, California called the Third Street Promenade; a wonderful place for artists to showcase things that most people don't typically get to see. I enjoyed it very much.

  • good effort, but far from perfection..you need to improve a lot on you adavus..especially the nattadavu... More aramandi is required...It seems like you do not know the meaning of the song or more likely the meaning of the song is not brought out thorugh your bhavam... I understand you are at a disadvantage being a westerner and not having much exposure to Hinduism and tamil culture...Anyways all the best for your future endeavors..polish your adavus with a good guru..good luck

  • I agree, certainly; far from perfection. But I've had two wonderful Gurus, in India and abroad, both of whom I respect deeply. With their help as well as with other types of movement training, I look forward to improving at all forms of dance throughout the course of my life. Thanks for your feedback!

  • your effort is commendable, but u seem to lack the essential grace of the average Indian dancer..The steps seem more inclined towards ballet or western form of dance...Especially when performing the 2nd and 7th nattadavu i noticed it... You seem unaware of the meaning of this composition or morelikely the meaning of the song isnt much brought out through your bhavam.....probably because you are alien to the Indian culture and bharathanatyam is immensely connected to hinduism and Indian culture

  • BEAUTIFUL foot work!

  • @shuqahx3: Thank you!!

  • Simply WoW! Amazing performace, Jai. I wish i could dance half as good as you.Oh, and you look gorgeous wearing sari, by the way.

Thank you for sharing the video with us . God Bless! :-)

  • You're welcome, and thank YOU! So sweet, so kind, so lovely. I am grateful for your compliments and for your support. Blessings to you too!!.... and I'm SURE you could dance just as good as me. :)

  • Wonderful performance... Jai. May Lord Nataraja bless you with all His bountiful blessings to perform more of His Dances so that everyone regardless Hindu or not, may have a chance to see His Divine Dance in public...A great seva you are doing bringing His Dance for all to see. Sarva Mangalam Asthu.

  • Thank you so so so much for your beautiful words and blessings! I appreciate your sentiments more than you could possibly know. Sat Nam.

  • WOW performance ! - Really appreciate the dedication in learning this art form..want to see more items- pls post them if you have them already! God Bless! :)

  • Thank you so much! So kind!! And I will definitely continue to post videos each time there are new ones - I have more to share! :)

  • @JaiKhalsa Eagerly waiting for your new videos then. Where did you perform your first dance(arangettram)?

  • @bennyagp: I actually have not had an arangetram. I have done solo and group performances ever since I began studying, but I have not had the typical training process - especially since I was with 2 different Gurus in 2 different countries...

  • Well done Jai.

  • Thank you! :)

  • I love it!!!

  • Awesome i suddenly fall in love in this art.... Thanks to the beautiful lady perforsed so perfctly.... Hats Off for ur dedication, practice.

  • And many thanks to you for your kind appreciation and generous words!

  • Well, as Bharathnatym Dancer myself! I would first love to appreciate for the time and love towards this wonderful form of art. There are nothing comment about dance. There are obviously no mistakes, but there should be some sharpening here and there. Therefore was another comment earlier, regards going to Indian to train is highly advisable...because...there is no end to this art form. If you ever get the chance...please go to Thanjavur Temple (have a look at the 108 postures). Thank you.

  • Thank you very much for your support, and for your advice as well. I agree completely that there must be some sharpening; I am working on it. ;)

I initially trained in India, and I would love to return again for more training. And I will most definitely be visiting Thanjavur Temple when I have the chance!

  • @lawmany1 Thanjavur has only 81 karanas or postures. in other words it's not the complete set. kumbakonaman and chidambaram temple have the full set.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • I happen to come across your video-posting today and am very happy to see your performance. I convey my best wishes to you and encourage you to perform to bring awareness to one and all of our beautiful and sacred music & dance.

  • Thank you for your sweet words and kind wishes, and for your wonderful support!! Bless you!

  • namaskaaram-s.... I compliment and commend you upon your performance. It's very inspiring and moving to see you learn our holy & classical artform and perform it without any inhibition. Whereever you sing or dance with devotion, there itself is "Chidambaram" with the Lord beholding and accepting your dance/offering of devotion and sincerity. - continued...

  • I'm an indian classical dancer too though I practice a different form..I came upon this video accidentally and I very much appreciate your enthusiasm. Music and dance are universal and it is just some very immature people who come up with the kind of comments I read below. Thumbs up to u and I also sugest that u go to india if u can and learn more..with due appreciation some corrections are in order..

  • Duly noted, thank you, and I do hope to return to India for more training. Again, thank you for your kind support, for your appreciation, and for your advice.

  • well done and great costume. its hard to perform in unpredictable environments. As a fellow dancer and an hindu, i was initially taken aback. But after thinking about it, I realize you're bringing awareness to an art form that is ancient. So I respond to all those with negative comments with the phrase: 'art is free to all'.

  • I agree with that sentiment 100%! ;)

Your open-mindedness is inspiring; thank you for taking the time to think about it, and for being willing to see the opposite perspective. And know that I have the utmost respect for your faith and for your devotion to all that you hold sacred.

  • beautiful :)

  • Thanks! ;)

  • Very impressive Jai...you were truly amazing...you are an inspiration to me, who wants to start learning the art (Kuchipudi to be precise) at 23...better late than never right..? (I thought you are leaning forward a bit too much, other than that, you were mind-blowing...)

  • Hi there! Thank you so much for your incredible compliments - and for the constructive criticism too. I appreciate all of it!

Kuchipudi is such a gorgeous form; I'm thrilled to hear you're interested in starting to learn it - never too late, for sure!! :)

Good luck to you, and please keep me posted. I'd love to see videos once you start performing!

  • I just read some of the comments Jai. Sad that people are so judgemental.

Remember Jai that your devotion is pure and between God and you alone. You are answerable to no one else.

Rejoice and spread the grace throughout the world!

  • I do understand everyone's got a different perspective, and thus different opinions, and I respect that. But I agree with you wholeheartedly! ;)

Thank you for your kind support!

  • mersmerising!

  • Very kind. Thank you!

  • nice interpretation. many thanx.

  • I appreciate that; thank you!

  • Wow, I learned classical dance when I was younger and I'd just be MORTIFIED to perform it out in public like this. It's impressive how good you are, but also how confident you are.

  • No, I bet you could do it! You'd be great! ;)

Thank you for your kind words!

  • amazing :D i am a classical dancer myself, and i find this very inspiring how you went out of regular practices and stage performances to go perform on the streets and show real culture (: keep up the good work.

  • Thank you - I'll do my best! ;)

  • i think this was beautiful

  • Thank you so much! ;)

  • LOVE the dance. great job.

  • Thank you!!

  • I think what Mohamana is trying is thus:

"I have the one true way.

If only the world would listen to just me, everything would be fine."

  • If only Athai was around to see this treachery by foreigners to our art ! You do not deserve to wear dancing bells on your feet ! Review your believes on a sacred performance to divinity and tradition !

  • Again, we're going to have to agree to disagree, but thank you for posting.

  • awesome dance, expression and costume!

  • Thank you!

  • really good:)

    well done..

    keep it up:D

  • Thanks!

  • Very good job with great attitude and expression. Love to see you dance in person. Keep up the good dancing.

  • Thank you; I'll do my best! ;)

  • don't listen to anyone what u doing is great and i totally agree with u with the face that we shold perform this great art in front of other ppl so they get to experience this wonderful art and culture and yea there was a time bharatanatyam was only performed in temple but not anymore,,,i;m glad that u bring it out and it's reaching all kind of ppl with different cultural background

  • I appreciate your support; thank you!

  • this is amazing your expression, and form, and how clean cut your moves are marvelous to watch. good job keep it up. :)

  • Thank you SO much! I certainly will. ;)

  • your welcome :D ... you should come to NYC one day and perform i would definitley come and watch

  • I'll let you know next time I'm going to be there.

  • Nice job, Jai! I don't know the name of the singer, however.

  • Thanks, love! And thank you anyway; I figured it was worth asking. ;)

  • Jai, could you tell me who sang this song? Your dance is beautiful!

  • Hi Mango! Thank you for your compliment!

As for the vocalist on this song: I asked my Guru about that, because I received the music from her, and she didn't know. This music was recorded some time ago and was passed down through several teachers, so that detail seems to have been lost.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

  • I think it is Maharajapuram Santhanam.

  • Thank you! I've passed that along to her - I hope it helps. ;)

  • Thanks very much!

  • very nice......

this was one of the padams i danced as well....

  • Thank you! It's a great one, isn't it? One of my favorites. :)

  • yeah of course it is.....

  • Blasphemy...Rukmini Devi (Attai) would have been very dissapointed with this...the sacred art being stooped to new lows...

  • You're certainly entitled to this opinion, but, with all due respect, I must disagree. On the contrary, I think she would have appreciated that the art form she worked so hard to revive is being shared with people who might not otherwise have an opportunity to see it. How can we possibly bridge all the cultural gaps if we do not learn about each other's cultures?

  • Did you train AT Kalakshetra or by a student FROM there?

Nick, a student of Kalakshetra style Bharatanatyam.

  • By a student from there.

  • OK Is she/he a recent student or an older one?

    Nick

  • An older one.

  • Its one thing to acctually learn an art form but to acctually destroy the sanctity of this divine art is a diffrent matter all together. Ridicilous white woman! do you seriously think that Athai would have appericiated these cheap thrills, cheap publicity stunts you put on the street ?

Do you know who perform on the road ? Lower cast pariahs who accompany corpses to the crematorium. She revived the art to be a respectable religious form in her institution!

  • Thank you for sharing your opinion. You are certainly entitled to it, as am I to mine. Not that I expect it to have any impact on you, here's what I think:

There is nothing cheap about this art form, therefore there can be nothing cheap about performing it. And God doesn't only live in temples; the divine is everywhere, including the roadside. Including within you and within me, as well as within that person whom you'd call a "lower caste pariah". We are all one and the same.

    I wish you well.

  • @JaiKhalsa well said !

  • @Aquamarine31: I had to really search for your comment in this list to be able to reply to it, cause it goes back to a very old thread of communication! Thanks for your support, love. I appreciate it. Blessings! :)

  • All i can says is u have no clue about lord Nadaraja who is the lord of Baradanattiyam,,FYI HE danced in the middle of cemetry with Ghosts,,so i don;t know what u talking about Jai dancing on the street,,u just hating cuz sum 1 from different culture able to pull off this dance better then u hater,,,learn one thing in ur life: if u have nothing good to says then don't even says anything,,Jay u rock ,,keep up the good work

  • jai u were absolutely a star over there, keep on spread the knowledge that u earn, i dodn't know who is this athai or mama, but i know a bit of the BN s history from lord siva's tandava, uma's laasya, kaali's marakaal, vishnu's aalingana..none of this were performed in a confined stage. at the beginning professionals..n then hindu nuns later courtesans regardless to diversity later even my hometown chettynadu it was perfomed in the street during bhramotsavam ratha yatra

  • in ancient days nava sandhi pooja during bhramatsovam accompanied by deva-adiyaal(deva-daasi)s dance at the nine corner of a grama/village/border at the street near a bali peetam. even rukmini devi arundale learned the art from low caste traditional deva adiyaal, as such i don't understand mohamana's gobbledygooks, hence rudra himself his subject to a low caste of shudra according veda obtain alms by picking the rice balls from ground and not from hand who also a streetdancer

  • You're so kind to take the time to write about this so that others can understand the history. Thank you very much!

  • Thanks for your support!

  • @Mohamana Mohamana everything you say is complete rubbish! I think Rukmini Devi ARUNDALE would be more disgusted by your obvious racism than by this dancers love for her art. In addition, bharatanatyam never belonged to Kalakshetra or "Athai" anyway. It belonged to the devadasis ( members of ALL castes) that is, before brahmins helped to outlaw it, then attempt to make it their own. You are a chump.

  • so lovely

  • ur very talented :)

  • jai,it is fantastic.you should keep some more expression in your face according to the meaning of the words like happy, angry, sad etc.
