I dived M2 several times in the eighties and I am sure I have seen the cannon inside the hull and the breechblock with the makers name on it. It is just behind the conning tower.
There was black oil under the top of the hangar. My dry suit disintegrated later after contaminatet with that oil.
Thanx everyone, It is a very thought provoking dive, knowing the crew are still aboard, and strangely serene. I think it is a fitting tribute and glad that those of you that lost family can glimpse the past.
Nice vid. I dived this a few days ago, 4/5/09 the viz was good, about 8 metres, plently of life around the wreck, lots of fish and lots of star fish. Its strange how well preserved the boat is after all this time. A warning to divers...beware of some really sharp posts about 2ft long near the front of the conning tower. I will definatly be diving here again.
My grandfather was on this submarine and my mother was only 6 when it happened.I got to the sub in action and the funeral on another u-tube clip filmed in 1932.Its amazing to see fis final resting place , thanks for that ,I live in Australia and encourage my children to get to England one day and dive on their great grandfathers submarine wreak.
I am a new (ish) diver - logged just 40 ish dives over 2 years and have wanted to dive the M2 ever since I read an article about it several years ago. I have since got my AOW certification and a few courses to build my experience to a level where I can dive this boat (deep, wreck, nitrox & dry suit courses). I am finally booked to dive it on Dec 29th 08 (Just 5 days time) and I am sooo excited about it. Fantastic video, thanks for sharing. I'll post a few vid clips of my dive when I get back :-)
I didn't manage the dive in Dec 08 in the end as I had a stinking cold!! :-( BUT, I managed to dive it for the first time on Saturday 20th Sept (3 days ago!!!) Was fantastic!!! Viz was average to a little murky and I need to go back a couple more times to see it properly, but I still did a once over the whole sub and loved every second :-)

Anyway great dives and somehow frightening.
