  • Great to see Clapton with a LP....

  • This is brilliant - I've posted the actual rehearsal for this very performance - its amazing the subtle differences - check it out,see what you think. Great stuff again from EC

  • didn't know steve jobs could play the guitar

  • @tomazdinardo He can't. He's dead.

  • amazing

  • ERIC!!!!PLAY GIBSON!!!PLEASE!!!!!

  • Is this CONCERT anywhere on DVD ?

  • eric clapton is amazing, but hes playing it on the wrong guitar.. he need a gibson es 335

  • so boring as always! sounds totally like Eric Cpalton! God of boring blues guitar!

  • @morimori335 are you the god of giving boring blo jobs?

  • He just seems more at home on a Gibson. He sounds more like the Eric of the Bluesbreaker days on a Gibby. He sounds like he chokes it on a Strat LOL

  • sweet guitar

  • Hey TruthAxe, where's the video of you performing at Royal Albert Hall?

  • No feel. Clapton sucks. He became a better technician after heroin but he's a lousy, boring musician.

Clapton is one of the most overhyped guys in music history. He'll be forgotten in 100 years, for sure. However, the people he aped so poorly shall be remembered.

  • @TruthAxe Ha. You're a goon my friend. I'm sure you have fantastic musical taste judging what you said... See ya later.

  • Is that a 57 champ with Eric on stage? I've never seen him use one of those live before.

  • He needs to crank that shit up and play with the LP into the cranked Marshalls again. : )

  • From this angle, Eric reminds me of Niko from GTA4. :P

  • those hands were made for Gibson. Really don't know why he change his mind. Stra is hendrix stuff!

  • He's enjoying the hell out of that LP!

  • he played an LP on 'Later with Jools' earlier this year, and he's played a 335 on tour this year, but he still used a strat all through his Albert hall gig when I saw him in feb 2011. I'd love to see him playing Gibsons again.

  • Seems like we're all agreed - Eric, chuck away them Strats. You were made for a Les Paul, and it was made for you. Now, dust off your Beano combo (or two, if you want to run them parallell) and give us what we want........

  • Don't matter what brand he plays, he can make 'em scream the blues!

  • I never understood why he played strats? He totally owns it with Gibsons...such an improvement....so over the top...!

  • Good to see him playing a Paul. Now he needs the old Marshalls!!!

  • @Ben1238 I know right?!!!! He's ALMOST back to the BENO set up!

  • Yea, I kept thinking " something looks funny about this." Then it hit me, Where the Frell is his Strat? I like his sound better on Gibson

  • h∆p...

    ......was here ∆

  • notice the little "champ" in front of the drum riser....

  • I love Eric on a Gibby too. He just seems more relaxed and the notes flow better. He seems like he chokes a Strat to death.

  • I'm mostly a strat player and I'll be the first to agree EC sounds better playing Gibsons - Les Paul, SG, or 335 - doesn't matter much. Listen to "From the Cradle" and some of the best tones are when his hands are on a Gibson. Definitely shoulda played one for the Cream reunion gigs - sacrilege!

  • A Les Paul and a little Tweed is all you need :)

  • Great tour that was! I am so sorry we don't have live professional footage of that era. It is by far and away the best blues playing EC produced, superior imho to the Bluesbreakers period. He was delivering the goods. A live DVD of that time would be far better than the RJ Sessions disc. Note the Freddy King influence in the solo!

  • Clapton and Les Paul!!!!!!! Gibson Les Paul has made for him!!

  • Whoa....a Les Paul!!??!! He really out to go back to them, he sounds GREAT!!! Thanks for posting this, columbokeiji!!!

  • It looks great to see him with a Les Paul again, after all he's the one who made everyone want one in the first place. I still think of him as a Les Paul player, that's because my head is stuck in 1965-66. it's my favorite period of his.

  • I just about totally over look the seventies and especially his contemporary stuff. If I want to remember whats great about Eric Clapton, I will put on The Bluesbreaker album or play one of the seven songs that he recorded with Jimmy Page in 1965 or I'll play some Cream

  • Wow wow wow! Now that's more like it! It's a Les Paul burst in EC's mitts - or nuthin atall, thats what I'm sayin'!!!!

  • Eric Clapton should use ONLY Gibsons!

  • LES PAUL FTW!

  • ok everybody...thumbs up for all the guitar geeks (myself included) whose first thought was Eric playing a les paul

  • I gotta say I think EC looks really weird with a Les Paul now.....and for Freddy it should be a Goldtop with P90s or maybe a nice cherry 345 or 355. Mmmmmm....

  • hey looks so fucken cool with a les paul

  • Oh hell yeah, playing a Les Paul apparently brings back Cream licks!

  • Someone please tell me where can i find this on DVD???????

  • i like the es than the lp but clapton stil awsome

  • I Prefer Jimmy Page with LesPaul and Clapton with stratocasters....

  • Thank you columbokeiji excellent man !!!

  • TOOOOO Cool! Dream come true to see him with a Burst as in Cream (early Cream) and John Mayal! LOVE LOVE LOVE that tone!

  • It's good, but I prefer it on the 335...

  • clapton......playing les paul?????......

  • this is a rehearsal

  • @josipml5 There's a lot of applause for a rehearsal...???

  • eric with a LP.. awansome, and different. 5/5

  • I wish he played a LP when I saw him at MSG with Cream!!!!

  • mom jeans

  • What amp is he playing through? That tone is awesome!

  • See that miked tweed amp behind?

    Some old Fender clone probably.

I think the votes are in [on this site and all the other pages]: EC should play Pauls!

  • clapton uses a fender 57 twin or deluxe i'm not sure which

he also has a custom made tweed cornel

  • That was excellent to see Eric with a Gibby again......The guys got so much soul and that LP sounds fantastic

  • Ahhhh now the universe is back in balance...

  • Tone is 200% better than those Strats he usually plays, I've seen him live a couple timas and always hated his tone... last time was with Derek Trucks in his band and DT sounded SO much better, EC played great, his tone was just thin and wimpy

  • Eric Clapton with a Les Paul equals SERIOUS TONE!!!!

  • This is GOD with a Les Paul, he got his signature sound with it, no matter how long he has been with fender, his souls belongs to gibson.

  • I'll NEVER understand the switch to Strats. There is NO WAY a Strat will EVER sound as good in his hands as this Les Paul does.

This is the sound I look for every time I play!

  • He has always sounded better with a Gibson in his hands.

  • What... does he think he's Otis Rush?

  • Eric with a Les Paul??

    What is this madness?

  • He was responsible for the increased popularity of the Les Paul in the late 60's.
