This is brilliant - I've posted the actual rehearsal for this very performance - its amazing the subtle differences - check it out,see what you think. Great stuff again from EC
No feel. Clapton sucks. He became a better technician after heroin but he's a lousy, boring musician.
Clapton is one of the most overhyped guys in music history. He'll be forgotten in 100 years, for sure. However, the people he aped so poorly shall be remembered.
he played an LP on 'Later with Jools' earlier this year, and he's played a 335 on tour this year, but he still used a strat all through his Albert hall gig when I saw him in feb 2011. I'd love to see him playing Gibsons again.
Seems like we're all agreed - Eric, chuck away them Strats. You were made for a Les Paul, and it was made for you. Now, dust off your Beano combo (or two, if you want to run them parallell) and give us what we want........
I'm mostly a strat player and I'll be the first to agree EC sounds better playing Gibsons - Les Paul, SG, or 335 - doesn't matter much. Listen to "From the Cradle" and some of the best tones are when his hands are on a Gibson. Definitely shoulda played one for the Cream reunion gigs - sacrilege!
Great tour that was! I am so sorry we don't have live professional footage of that era. It is by far and away the best blues playing EC produced, superior imho to the Bluesbreakers period. He was delivering the goods. A live DVD of that time would be far better than the RJ Sessions disc. Note the Freddy King influence in the solo!
It looks great to see him with a Les Paul again, after all he's the one who made everyone want one in the first place. I still think of him as a Les Paul player, that's because my head is stuck in 1965-66. it's my favorite period of his.
I just about totally over look the seventies and especially his contemporary stuff. If I want to remember whats great about Eric Clapton, I will put on The Bluesbreaker album or play one of the seven songs that he recorded with Jimmy Page in 1965 or I'll play some Cream
I gotta say I think EC looks really weird with a Les Paul now.....and for Freddy it should be a Goldtop with P90s or maybe a nice cherry 345 or 355. Mmmmmm....
Tone is 200% better than those Strats he usually plays, I've seen him live a couple timas and always hated his tone... last time was with Derek Trucks in his band and DT sounded SO much better, EC played great, his tone was just thin and wimpy
Great to see Clapton with a LP....

He just seems more at home on a Gibson. He sounds more like the Eric of the Bluesbreaker days on a Gibby. He sounds like he chokes it on a Strat LOL

I love Eric on a Gibby too. He just seems more relaxed and the notes flow better. He seems like he chokes a Strat to death.

Some old Fender clone probably.
I think the votes are in [on this site and all the other pages]: EC should play Pauls!

clapton uses a fender 57 twin or deluxe i'm not sure which
he also has a custom made tweed cornel

Eric Clapton with a Les Paul equals SERIOUS TONE!!!!
Noitpure 2 years ago 3
This is GOD with a Les Paul, he got his signature sound with it, no matter how long he has been with fender, his souls belongs to gibson.
nicolasrivera 2 years ago 2
I'll NEVER understand the switch to Strats. There is NO WAY a Strat will EVER sound as good in his hands as this Les Paul does.
This is the sound I look for every time I play!
Coachmoe66 2 years ago 2
He has always sounded better with a Gibson in his hands.
