interesting how you take your left hand above your right to play the glissandos near the end. i only ever played it with two. but excellent performance!
Did you have any difficulties in playing the long octave passages? I'm trying to learn this piece and I feel like I'm ripping my hand apart every time I get to that section.
@KangarooMeringue it was difficult for me to learn for a couple weeks, but if you just play slowly before gradually building up speed and muscle memory, it shouldn't hurt your hands.
@KangarooMeringue It's really important to play long octave passages with relaxed wrists. If they're not relaxed and loose, the sound won't be nice and you will actually injure your hands.
How difficult is this to play? I think I might do this for my piano solo, but I only have about a month to learn it. I'm a pretty fast learner though.
I remember playing this song last year for my exam, scoring perfect on it. Its a really beautiful song. to make this song sound better if i were you i'd play a little out of time, it would give you more of that out of landish feeling. yeah? just a suggestion thats all..
you played wonderfully! you've got great touch :)
if you're looking for more beautiful pieces to play, i'd reccomend the debussy's first arabesque or maybe the petit chien (minute waltz) by copin. you'd do great with the trills in the chopin and you have the right touch for the debussy.
This is my recital piece from this year... I'm switching over from Liszt's Liebestraume no.3 (HUGE difference in difficulty for me; Lotus Land doesn't seem nearly as difficult) and as much as I love the Liszt, Lotus Land has me heart and soul <3
Seconding comments that the tempo here is a little too quick, but otherwise this is an great performance. Wish me luck in April!
Well I found the sheet, and I got to say this will be even harder than Chopins Nocturne c# minor. My Cousin is sad,he cant reach more than an octave. So Im the only one in the family who can performe this piece ...lucky me :-)
Hahaha, I think once you get a hang of all the flats and sharps throughout the piece including the glissando, it gets really fun to play ^_^. Good luck learning and practicing
I would say 20th Century. For HIS time contemporary but now his harmonies are quite something of the past. But it is a beautiful work. In this performance the tempo is a bit fast but it is still a first rate job!
Very good, only caught a couple places where you were a little fast but could have been nerves. :) This is my favorite song. I learned to play it when I was 13. (some 20 years ago) I know this piece well. Great job!
but i think you could be more romantic and color it more. the left hand chords are harsh in some places and are stoic. maybe soften them and add some texture?
good job on the black key glissandos.. doesnt it hurt when you do them with your thumb though?
Hi, I enjoyed your interpretation very much and am inspired to try out this piece. Could you please post what publisher/version of sheet music you played?
Hm, I only have a photocopied version given by my teacher, who owns the original. It doesn't say publisher/version on my photocopy. I'll try to ask my teacher for the info.
Thank you. It is so good to see and hear this beautiful piece played. I found the piano sheet music for it yesterday and sat playing it again, I love it still after 20+ years. Now it is time to work to get all the notes in, in time. Thank you for sharing.
What I love about piano is there are so many pieces that you can learn to play that you just get so overwhelmed, in a good way.

The piece is moderately difficult. One month of dedicated practice should suffice.

This song is amazing I think I'll but the chopin aside for the time being to devote my time to learn this beautiful piece.
Although it will take some time I have a better chance of finishing this piece before I finish Chopin etude, 25 n. 1, and the chopin 24 prelude.
Can't wait.

hello
this is a beautiful piece, dont you think?
you did a good job, technically.
but i think you could be more romantic and color it more. the left hand chords are harsh in some places and are stoic. maybe soften them and add some texture?
good job on the black key glissandos.. doesnt it hurt when you do them with your thumb though?
anyway, pretty good job overall.

Thank you for the feedback. ^^
My thumb is very much used to the feeling, so it doesn't hurt.

No offense but this messed me up when I played it. The rhythm's are kinda off.

Well, it is based off of a style (eastern music-esp Indian I'm guessing) which has a free meter, isn't it?

First rate piano music. On the level with Debussy and Satie. I wish someone would post his Piano Sonata. I read that Percy Grainger used to play it.

Very nice work. I'm glad to see that there are some who still play some of Mr. Scott's beautiful miniatures.
Have you played any of the Egyptian pieces?

I also play this piece and I thought you did a fantastic job with it - Well Done!
You played it very dreamily as the opening tempo indicates.
I will try and put up a video of myself playing this as well as other Cyril Scott pieces.

I look forward to that. Glad to see some other folks who appreciate Cyril Scott's pieces.
