  • definitely one of dms yuckier songs. but it was a weird transition from speak and spell. i digress though because i really enjoy quite a few tracks off a broken frame. awesome dark synthpop.

  • EPIK arm swinger dancing!!!! o_0

  • too, too funny. I'm guessing this is one of the songs they never play in concert. ;)

  • arrkk le monde danse donbin mal :S

  • How the hell did we go from bands like Led Zeppelin to this in less than 6 years?

  • Young, young Dave!)))) Cool!!!

  • ah he looks so young n cute aw <3

  • So young... hardly comparable with nowadays depeche))

  • I LOOOOOOOOVE THIS!

    The dancers are FABULOUS!

  • erano già avanti nel 82.... grandi depeche mode..

  • see you and this are very poor songs thank fuck they came through it and went on to be a great band.

  • yay depeche back when they regressed to bubblegum. when Clarke was in the group they were more savvy, then he left and they stepped back. luckily wilder came around with his dark austere and helped gore mature as a writer. i still enjoy this stuff, but more as a joke

  • Their best era

  • OH my god this is rare! thanks!

  • Wow. I didn't know Rick Astley ever covered Depeche Mode.

  • this is the best of depeche mode, I had a greatest hits album as a kid that only covered the early stuff, and it was the best stuff ever

  • I love the 80s !!!!

  • thanks for putting this up I love this song :)

  • Dave looks like rick astley in that suit! lol

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE back to old times ;-)

  • 15 people rather listen to JLS.

  • the beginning always reminds me of zelda :D

  • The way the girls dressed back then turns me on something fierce!

  • Sorry peeps that wasnt TOTP,S Dave was singing live .Everyone had to mime

in the old days didnt matter who were .

  • 1:18 the famous gahan dance, pretty awesome!

  • This is great! Thank you!

  • It was filmed on Top of the Pops in 1982 when Depeche Mode had just emerged into the electronic scene with Vince Clark leaving because of their overtly 'poppy sound'! Funny now to look back on it now but i've many fond memories of dates from around this era.......if only we could time travel!lol

  • @weegieman67 It's not TOTP. Looking at my own handwriting on the spine of the original VHS cassette, it was a Saturday morning kids TV show called "Get Set For Summer".

  • @JohnAdrenochrome You are right, i remember a Yazoo song on a similar stage set, called "Get Set"

  • pocieszny widok. :)

  • New Wave Polka music. I don't know about this song. Its like a song that I love to hate. The sounds are just so weird with that polka bass sound. It did make it to the Greatest Hits 81>85. I thought that "Photograph of You" or "The Sun & the Rainfall" were better. But "The Meaning of Love" is growing on me.

  • new wave!

  • Wow! Disco from DM!!!!!!

  • Top Of The Pops TV show U.K.

  • *Kyyyaa* this is my favorite DM song evar!!!!! thank you for uploading

  • OMG .....Dave looks like Rick Astley on this video !!!!!

  • @wh0pper5 its the foundation

  • He still looks good though ! Its brilliant seeing all these old clips of the band , isnt it ?@wh0pper5

  • @wh0pper5 Funny... and true. I used to actually like Rick Astley until he deceptively attempted to resurrect his popularity on youtube. Many know what I mean.

  • I love it this song¡¡Thanks for sharing¡¡

  • Man those were the days, I was 5 when i heard the Meaning Of Love, Classic Depeche

  • thats so mondo rad

  • Those girls are all like "Hey! Let's dance super sexy so the guys in Depeche Mode will wanna do us!!!!" Hee hee......young Alan Wilder......my favorite man on earth!!!!

I'm sure DM are saying to themselves "Wow...look how hot those girls look in those frilly blouses. I'd eat my lunch off that blouse!!!!"

    Ha ha!!!

  • top notch song .. lovely as the whole album and the speak & spell too.. a great period og the boys.:D

  • I remember hearing this song when I was five! There was a public access station where I lived which played music videos and this station played all the vintage DM videos as well as The Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen.

  • I wanna fuck dave

  • cute footage!

  • then u dont like DM, ass (dont respond to this)

  • well they had to start somewhere, you cant expect a band like Depeche Mode in the late 80's early 90's to start off as he greatest musicians ever... lol this vid is funny compared to depeche mode in their devotional days

  • Daveeeeeeeeeeeee <3

  • classic stuff..got all these singles on 12"...should i sell em on ebay????? f**k rite off lol think ill hang on to em ;-)

  • it`s a really good song!! a beautifull DM classic ;)

  • Oh dear. However, if Arthur Baker had happened upon these chaps in '82, then the tinniness may have been fatted out a bit. Even sad glasses Trevor Horne may have rescued this, like he did erstwhile nowhere lads ABC and frankly unmusical Frankie. Give these Mode blokes credit though, they persevered through this and emerged tarnished but ever so much better. And on their own terms. And darker. And somewhere, somewhere better than this.

  • wtf? I thought Rick Astley could dance but these folks are invincible

  • the "pre-teen version of DM. I grew up in the 80's. I absolutely love the music, but the fashions were gawd awful.....

  • Hhahahhah, you've just been "Rick Rolled" By Dave Gahan ... For a moment I was sure it was OMD .... Oh the Blitz movement .... Could be worse .... a lot worse, Flock of Seagulls ....

  • Hehe. This is the one of the first videos where Alan shows with the band. :)

  • Dig some of those rad moves the kids in the audience were doing LOL!!

  • good times!!

  • 1:18 omg he still dances the same way :D these videos are treasures to teenagers like me - thank all of you who upload them! :D

  • YOUR SO RIGHT !! you gotta be a DM fan.....he really still dances the same !! ;-))

Nice to see that you also noticed that !!

  • haha I'm glad someone else noticed it. yeah I'm kind of a geek if it comes to DM... well, I'm a geek anyway ;D

  • @z91tora that´s right!!! haha!!! happy new year from Argentina...

  • Babies!

    I am coming to Germany

    Guest list bitte schoen!!!!!!!!!

  • Ahhh! When i left school.............82

From electro pop to dark music..........Martin Gore writes good meaninful songs...!!

  • que jovencitos estan

  • wow... pretty interesting case of half playback!

On the one hand, the lead vocals sound very much like playback, but then some of the synth lines go wrong and the backing vocals are also somewhat insecure.

Hard to tell what the tape is actually contributing.

  • So cool! Glad I came across this one. They were so perfect live back then. Almost sounded like the studio recording!

  • Oh, baby Depeche Mode! So young and cute!

  • @lisasullivan21 I was just a little girl when they made this video! Wow, how time just zips right on by!

  • YES ITS A CLASSIC IN DEED

  • "The meaning of love" is seeing this song on here...Pure class group....they will live for ever.....

  • woow

  • Absolutely classic. Thank you for posting this. 8)

  • A Broken Frame is amazing- i like many of their other CD's, but this second one is jsut insanely good!

  • Oh how wonderful! I LOVE it!

  • This has to be one of the best 80's synth pop tunes i have ever heard!!!!! AAAAAAAAAA±±±± A broken frame is an amazing album!!! But... i think speak and spell is more consistent

  • early eighties, what a time :), glad i lived that period.

  • i remember those "pararie" blouses..

i grew up in san diego, and they used to wear them with like op shorts and flip flops..

it was the lil house on the prarie/surfer girl look...

  • So bad it's GOOD! Thanks for posting this classic.

  • from 1:18 the best moment..Dave´s dancing is really cool..:)

  • Swing those arms like a windmill, dancing girls!

  • that dance style was probably the inspiration for eddie murphy's delerious segment on white people dancing..

  • haha, damn I was a baby back then. I was born in late 81. :P

  • i love the girl with the right blouse, looks like she wants to go pee!!

  • That is some of the scariest shit Ive ever seen

  • This comment made me laugh out loud, thanks!!!!! This is a pop punk sound and it IS funny to view now. They were BIG on synthesizers back then.

  • same here

  • I drove my mum mad with the 12 inch of this, wore a hole in the living room carpet

  • He looks like he's 14 years old here, great voice.
