@jvmc08 i would not say chess is better... but i even would not say chinese chess is better
so what i mean is... that every single game has their own charme... and everyon has to find their favorite game for themself.... soo you maybe like chess more... but there are discussions about, which game has more complexity... or needs more ability and so on... thats oke... but dont say just... that is better than the other... it makes you very cheap!!!!!!
Thank you for your question. If I understood it correctly, you are asking me whether the elephants can move one point diagonally. If this is your question, the answer is no. Elephants move two points diagonally, and they can do this only if the intervening point is unoccupied.
I've been playing Chess since I was 4 when my Father taught me and think it's a fantastic game. I hadn't seen Chinese Chess until I moved to Vietnam 6 months ago. They play on the street here in large groups. They have the boards painted on the footpath and they strike up games every afternoon. I've wanted to learn, and I'm studying the pieces now so I can play with the old buggers on the street. Looks like fun! I'll let you know how I go. Thanks for the videos. Keep it up.
if the king faces one another whoever just did that lame move loses...depends on what the tournaments rules are....example if the pitted piece is moved then the opponent can take the other's player king..
actually you forgot to explain something when the two kings meet who ever turn is it can use their king to eat (defeat) the other king in chinese it's called fei jiang English would be Fly king i know it sounds weird.
Great question! When the pawn crosses the river, it can move sideways or forward, but not diagonal or backwards. Therefore, when the pawn reaches the final row, it can move sideways only.
Did you mention that the kings are not allowed to "see" each other in an open d, e or f-file? So a red king on d1 and a black king on d10 without any other pieces on the d-file is an impossible position. This is like in western chess, where the kings can never be placed on neighbouring squares. This rule is important for many checkmate techniques and endgames.
Are there any chinese chess tactic server that you can practice solving?

i read the horse moves first straight and then diagonal and cant do it the other way
grancucharon 2 years ago
that's what he says in the video. And it's pivotal to the tactics of the game as to blocking it. Unlike "standard" chess, these can be blocked.

Heh, the horse can't jump over pieces. >:D I'm totally gonna learn this game, lol.

Actually, I said that elephants can't cross the rivers. I also said that kings and guards are limited to the fortress.
Thank you for your input.
