ok... im REALLY intrigued by the idea of circuit bending, but some of the ppl who do it dont know shit bout music... and to a certain extent, its kinda annoying when they think they make music with it when its really sound, BUT it is an interesting way to express urself, ill give them that
Agreed..I respect the stuff that's essentially noise music, it's just not my thing. I think blending these techniques with other electronic music techniques is where it's at.
I think theres a good quote in the clip here: "we do it for the community and ourselfes and not for the audience".
Circuit bending for me is like, if you like it then go on and do whatever you want with it, but otherwise forget about it. In a crowd of 1 mil people im completely satisfied if one person totally gets what im trying to create. I believe the same goes for all benders.
"circuit bending" is a trendy term someone came up with to promote themselves. People have been modifying electronics for *decades* before this came along. It would be more interesting to hear some actual music being made...
While circuit bending itself is really cool. Deciding what to do with it is the hard part. I'm not really a fan of noise music like this. But when it's incorporated into other forms of music it's very cool. It's a bit to abstract for me. But it's definitely a cool culture.
I remember you could f*ck with the Atari VCS (2600) using those toggles on the console and on a game like Adventure you could make the walls change position.
Finaly, something that the kids are into that sounds like nothing but noise to me! I feel as if I have arrived at a point in my life, middle age, and I am at peace with myself. Can somebody please turn that down!! :p
HALF of these guys consider themselves musicians. They aren't. The other half think they're artist. I guess they are. ALL of them have never been laid and are not hellping themselves at all.

any sound has the ability to become music.
it just has to be used in moderation and correctly.

Tell me then, who moderates it and tells you whats "correct"?

Somebody has to *make* the samples before the musicians rip them off from on high.
