Hi all, I really like this song and this album in general! Does somebody perhaps know, which synth he plays in the solo (after 2:45)? Is this a Minimoog or is it the ARP Odyssey? Thanks.
Wow.... George Duke is good. This track has got everything. I love the synth solo and the Rhodes groove behind it is beautiful. Vocals are fantastic. Great music. Thankyou for posting this. It's a gem.
OMG!!!!! I had forgot about this and just happened to be on another post where George Duke clips appeared on the right and just clicked on this. I had this album, or rather I had the cassette. Been a big fan of George since I was in high school and heard "Dukey Stick." I haven't heard this one in 30 years. What would we all do without YT?
YEEAAHHHH ....this is what I call FUNKIN' JAZZ ROCK... one of those songs that made me wanna pick up my guitar and copy that synth solo....sure feel like high school all over again.thank you for posting it...
If anybody is from Naptown out there, I remember this album being premiered on WTLC 105.7 on the late night jazz program call jazz flight 105 featuring Ms Vicky Buchannon from 10pm- 2am I would fall asleep to this program
Bismillah! .........the days of righteous competition...once could perhaps 'safely' make the argument this sounds like a Brother Maurice White/Charles Stephney (RIP) inspired track! Salaam!
the intro...the middle...the end this WHOLE SONG is...jaw dropping. Where has this song been all my life...its few people that are this ingenious now a days..and I'm only 23.
It took some work but you are correct about this song and the compression. Most songs on YouTube leave a lot to be desired when it comes to quality. But this is the shiiits. Sounds just as good on here as it does on my Quad Stereo I use at home in my studio.
That's a Phase Linear 4000 4 channel Pre-Amp that I run thru along with Sequential Circuits (best known for the Prophet 5 Synth) rack unit that houses a parametric EQ. Just a sample of what "old school" gear I still run. Surround sound, 5.1 and 7.1 are cool but give me the analog days anytime. Digital is great for the final mix and mastering but until then I prefer tubes and analog. The warmth they create is unmatched. ex; my 1970 Fender Bassman 10 Amp I still use today 40 yrs. later.
Hell yeah! Bob Carver, whether it's Phase Linear or his Sunfire, always brings home the goods. I'm a tube guy as well. Gotta a Marantz 7C from the early 60s, telefunken tubes, adds a whole other dimension to the music.
@DEConnoisseur great to hear that tubes and analog are still in use today. How about a Tascam 34B 4 ch. Reel to Reel recorder for home use? I have 2 that are great fun to work with in tandem w/ a 16 ch board. And yes, a Prophet 5 is still working here also. George Duke is just 1 of many artists from the SF/Oakland Bay Area here. Funky tight group of musicians.
The last time I heard this album, and song, was when I was in the Navy stationed at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, California 1981-83. The whole album was played on the former radio station KSOL out of San Francisco.
KSOL was my favorite station when I moved to San Francisco in 1980 from New York City. My office is now just down the road from Alameda in San Leandro. And the FUNK is still alive today with my band the "Funkanauts." Peep them on YouTube and MySpace. And this is one of my favorites by George Duke.
I used to be stationed at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, Ca. on the USS Kansas City (AOR 3). I also enjoyed listening to KDIA 1310AM. I used to hang out at a nightclub called, "Johnny's" in Alameda. It was a hole in the wall, but the R&B music was good!
KDIA was my 2nd favorite station. It turned into a Disney Channel music station for kids in the late 90's. Don't know if Johnny's is still around but many other places are. As you probably know Alameda is now closed down as a military base. Shame too.

not , and you know they don't know what they're missing. Love this stuff. The 70's was a very good decade for true funky, jazzy r&b
