@Arizonaswede, me and my wife are moved by your ebay story, and it has made us want to jump into that market. My question is, how do we start? Where can we find products for a good/reasonable price?
@suboy05 I would go to trade shows. Google the industry trade show you want to be in. For example, we sold sporting goods, so we would go to "sporting goods trade shows" which is what you would google to find them. Next, you need to have a company name, you want to make it sound upscale and boutique. We put the name Specialty Retail in our company name to make it sound good. Next, get business cards printed, not the cheesy Vistaprint ones, but real business cards then go to the show.
Ya this worked before china got in the game now it's so hard to make money on eBay unless u can compet with a millon kids working for 1 doller a day each??? I didn't think so!!!
@mrwfraser From Manufacturers, I will make a video on how I did it. I would call them and ask them if they had overstock goods or blems and told them I would like to buy them.
@mrwfraser you build connections and eventually you find a trustworthy wholesaler to sell high volume at discount. This is pretty much all business is.
What caused them to shut you guys down? I ask because I am currently a small time seller on ebay and would like to become a power seller eventually. I just think that it would be a shame to get very successful only to be stomped back down to the start.
@badoc10 they didn't shut us down. We went on to a different business model. I think staying small time and profitable is better than going big time and risky.. Overhead = stress
@arizonaswede Do you still think its worth it for someone with alot of drive and interest to look toward creating sustainable business on ebay/personal e-commerce website?
ebay sucks now. the market is over-saturated with too many idiots driving up the price days before an auction closes. Not to mention, bid sniping is impossible now.
@evil10 Trust and Safety can be a pain in the booty. They shut us down 3 times. The problem is, they have guys who are power trippers who can shut off your livelyhood with a click of a mouse. You don't really deal with them, just follow the rules as best ya can.
@wolfemancola depends, does it say not for re-sale on the side? if not then go ahead, once you buy the product its your to do watever you want with it :)
I sourced two containers from China to try it. They were pocket bikes or Mini motorcycles. There was good and bad to doing that. Overall, I wouldn't recommend sourcing direct from China when there are so many manufacturers needing to dump BRANDED inventory here in the US. Of course it's all made there anyway, but better to get it with a brand name.
I wanna be positive, its a success story for sure, no contest but 3.3 million sales or profit. Profit would be very very good, sales, quite a different story. But well done.
@arizonaswede woww, wern't you hesitant about doing this, even though you were short on cash at the time? because i want to do something similar but i need every bit of money i can get at the moment, and i dont know wether to take that 'leap' or not...
@arizonaswede How much of it was profit if you dont mind me asking.... I'm thinking about starting an ebay bussiness myself since I was laid off from police service a year ago.
very good video very proud f people like you. i was wondering if could give me advice, how do you know who to contact to buy there discounted items do i call the store in my local area myself or the headquarter?
I would keep it small.... One of the biggest mistakes we made was adding a lot of overhead. Looking back, I would have kept the business at about $1,000,000 a year out of the house instead of 3.3 million with all the overhead and headaches.
I sure wish I knew where they purchased their items to resell on ebay. I'm a long time ebay seller, but the problem I keep running into is finding an endless supply of quality items that people want to buy.
Something tells me that these guys don't get their inventory from garage sales, or Thrift Stores.
We started out by getting our stuff at garage sales etc. Then we started calling manufacturers getting lists of their closeout/discontinued/blem inventory. All the money is made on the buy, so buy wisely. Don't be afraid to offer very low prices. email me if you have questions. thanks
Story is good, but nothing special, cause I know a personally few people with simillar story. About ebay-It's the biggest SHIT market place i ever saw. For buyers its heaven for sellers its worse than hell. I was titan power seller and one day ebay closed my account cause some idiot told ebay I was selling fake blades, which was not true(over 500 positive feedback-only from blades!) Ebay ignore my mails and its over. Btw ebay steal your money & paypal. I wish to have power to close ebay.
eBay Platinum PowerSeller here.... the truth is exactly as they say it YOUR HOME WILL BECOME A WAREHOUSE of inventory. Please don't be jealous of their success. APPLAUD THEM (and the same can happen to you)!
I don't really think it's hype, it's a story done by a news organization. If it was hype, it would be me saying how great I was like most of the really bad ebay videos on youtube.
WHAT ABOUT US BUYERS... I so hate ebay. I use to love it back in 2002 when I started, and now I hate it because they had suspended me for life. I hate ebay because they never reinstate you.. bewarned too if sellers give you item strikes. I had way to many when I canceled a lot of ebay items last year in 2007. F**K ebay for suspension me. EBAY IS NOT A CANCELIZATION SITE... not like Walmart, Toys R Us, Collector's Cache, ToyWiz, Target, etc... BEWARE. you never get reinstated.
100% believable and real - many are doing it every day - if you haven't heard of it yet - get an account at clickbank, paydotcom, ebay, paypal and learn some marketing - you can do this too!
I am a powerseller- packing the items is the most time consuming part. You DEFINITELY need to hire help. And yes, you need a warehouse and you NEED to get into a trade show to meet companies to be able to buy wholesale. That said, eBay sucks! They take half of our profit each month in fees. Start a real website, promote the old-fashioned way. Using eBay only makes you a slave to eBay.
I would love to have a dream business like this! A Powerseller myself, and the growth rate is expected to rapidly increase shortly. Well, not anywhere close to the 3.3 million~!

About the ebay fees maybe just consider it as an expense as if that you open a REAL SHOP (eg: rent fee, employee fee, electricity fee etc).
I also sell on ebay, not a big one only sell less than 500items so far. But to make it big maybe should do it in real as well!!!
