Likely, white America has unjustly taken far too much from Native Americans. But I have a question: wouldn't it do more good now if we just treated them like anyone else, not with special rights and the like? I'm generalizing, but truthfully, where I live, I see a lot of drugs and dirtiness. Is government welfare/special-rights stuff actually helping at all? Aren't we white Americans making the problem of drugs and financial instability worse for Native Americans by our reservation segregation?

Likely, white America has unjustly taken far too much from Native Americans. But I have a question: wouldn't it do more good now if we just treated them like anyone else, not with special rights and the like? I'm generalizing, but truthfully, where I live, I see a lot of drugs and dirtiness. Is government welfare/special-rights stuff actually helping at all? Aren't we white Americans making the problem of drugs and financial instability worse for Native Americans by our reservation segregation?

It would not improve their communities' mental health to take them off of the support that we withheld for over a hundred years (breaking our own laws). Furthermore, people don't choose drugs to cope with being on welfare, they use drugs to cope with -needing- welfare (whether on it or not); it's humiliating to have no home or work.
