  • What can I say ! ! ! Bury My heart next next to Buffy's.......

  • Native Pride.

  • THANK YOU NA4 LIFE,.........

  • She told the world what has happend here, bless her for that.

    A true warrior...

  • buffy is so badass! LOVE HER!

  • Phew, what a voice and strength. Beautiful woman too at that!

  • Americans please read the book "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"--should compulsory reading for all high school students, their parents and politicians. And listen to this song. Americans know next to nothing about Native Peoples--the land they have their houses on. ITs time to change that--abuses against Native people continue--albeit on a subltler level.

  • Me too... But My wounded knee is Ireland.

  • i am cree!

  • Those of us who are native, even part native, have our hearts buried at wounded knee. We cannot forget what happened there, we can never forget.

  • She's Canadas precious gem !

  • Truth hurts but awakens! Ah Ho!

The wounds in these lyrics are still open for the people. Peltier for example is STILL politically imprisoned... It's been 33 years & they don't have any more leg to stand on now than they did then with regards to reason to hold on to him, yet they continue to do so rather than admit to their wrong doing.

People today think the battles between the US and American Indians are ancient history, sadly that's not the case.

  • Song makes me cry.

  • Thank You very much.xsuecatwoman.

  • First heard Buffy on the Soldier Blue film. Never forgot the film and will never forget her voice. Bury my heart at wounded knee was one of the books that made an impression on me.

  • One of her songs from way after her '60's' period. She was the best of all the Indian girl singers. no, really. She also had a nice duet, i forget with whom, tho- another great song - dance to the social relavANCE. anyone? but listen first to this and tell me i'm not outtamymind for being so deeply entrenched in the Buffy mystic

  • this womans voice is invaluable to the struggle! ***** *****

  • To all those saying that white people need to learn love and respect more than any other race: claiming one group is more racist than another is racism as well. The sad fact of life is racism exists no matter where you go, no matter what color your skin is. It sucks, and I don't like it, but it happens.

  • I'm sorry but I just think this is an amazing sing and it reminds me of my father who introduced me to buffy

  • buffy is a liar. annie mae was killed by friends of leonard peltier to keep her from talking to the feds. this song is all lies.

  • @svvmichael1 i don't think buffy is a liar... she's a singer; on your other point... dead on; i'm still convinced some elements in AIM killed Annie, or had her killed

  • I LOVE BUFFY

  • when the heck was this song made?

  • @204moneychic 1996, I believe, with the album.

  • @NativeAmerican4Life Earlier than that. It was on a cassette called "In The Spirit Of Crazy Horse" that came out in 1992.

  • @RavenShadowcast Thanks! :)

  • @204moneychic - This song was recorded in 1990 . . .

  • This is my familys favorite song!!!

  • This is my familys favorite song.

  • This is my whole familys favorite song. Practically, WE sang it all together!

  • human being is most aggresive animal in this planet. where is human there is deterioration and wasteland. sad.

  • Gitchi Miigwetch B.S.M.

  • Buffy Sainte Marie <3

  • buffy sainte marie.....bow down.

  • NO OFFENCE to anyone I am part native american and I love the lessons that I have learned at pow wows and ceremonies I wouldn't be the person I am today I know that the lands were native first and what was done was wrong but I teach my children RESPECT all even the man that gave me my death sentence I did not ask for what has happened but I can not change it and if he was laying down dieing I would help I have learned strength from every where and the woman that sings this song shows strength

  • @HellsVixen

Greetings from Finland and must say I think like like You. Let's try to live in peace in this small place called Earth. wbr veijo.rosenberg@kolumbus.fi

  • fuck white people MHA Nation!!!

  • @codetalker187 Do you think that hate helps anything?

  • @codetalker187 .... fuck exclusionism

  • At this late stage of Mother Earth.. it seems like mere symantics. All the "North American Native First Nations" People I know say it's really okay to say "Indian". I like these people :)

  • Hey Buffy, I love your voice. It is so unique and wonderful to hear. It has this beautiful sound that seems to have its own bass system, lol. If that makes sense. I grew up listening to your music and learned a lot through your inspirational words. I have to do an essay on a talented Native Artist and I picked you. Learning more about you has made your music so much better. Keep striving forward as you are a HUGE role model for all us other proud Native women out there.

  • I am doing a paper on the rhetoric of the Native American Social Movement (though one that has going on for thousands of years) but I am focusing on events from 1950-1980s and although I cant use this song in my timeline, I keep listening to it. It's just so good.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Ive seen Buffie st marie in concert and she was amazing, it was sooo unreal. love buffie st marie she has one beautiful voice

  • Wow, I feel so idealist. I didn't realize there are still so many racists. When will it stop? Please, none of us today are responsible for the past deeds-good or bad-of our ancestors. We're only responsible for what we do now. And no matter what race we are, we need to treat all people with the equal respect. Even if they can't see you because you're posting this online.

  • indians come from india native americans are the first people in this great land.christer columbus thought he landed in india at first, study history.

  • MAY THE GREAT SPIRITS PROTECT AND KEEP YOU SAFE MY SISTER.....:}

  • Buffy-Lgend ,loved your music for 30 years over, keep the faith

  • may the great spirit bless and keep you.

    great love and thanks. Katie

  • Aboriginal is correct , and Columbus is bullshit too by the way. But don't get me started

  • Why are all you awful people having racist rants under a beautiful song about peace and tragedy...go take your redneck hate somewhere else.

  • @xsuecatwomanx Migwetch!!

  • @xsuecatwomanx ....................rednecks. a true "Redneck" is a back woods Christian farmer. very devout and with a sunburned neck from bein on a plow all day........the "Other" types who say theyre rednecks are the farthest thing from it. bein that they drink, cuss, fight, and do the most unchristian things!=White Trash!!

  • tell me..Do native americans prefer to be called Native Americans or Indians?

  • @bolanett Native American or Aboriginal Indian =)

"Indian" can be a misconception as there are Indians in India (where Columbus was supposed to go before we discovered him lol), so native american or aboriginal Indian (Canada) would be correct.

Haha, there's actually a joke about that.

    Feather Indian = native americans

    Dot Indian = India

  • @NativeAmerican4Life India indians actually call themselves "black indians" and call us "red indians"...old post but im putting in my two cents. but really most times when im asked if im indian i tell who ever that im Numa from northern nevada. NPNW oh yea Chief and Sav are acceptable to me too.

  • @10inchkoodge In that case I suppose it depends where you're coming from =)

    Miigwetch.

  • @bolanett I am mixed blood. Indian does not offend me. When people trip all over themselves thinking they have to say Native American to be politically correct, that bothers me a lot more than someone saying Indian which does not bother me at all.

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 Exactly, eh =)

  • @bolanett I like to be called Native. Just native :3 Indian just doesn't sound right.

  • @HelenaGranger551 haha me too X3

  • @bolanett I was told by Moses Brings Plenty that Indians is preferred.

  • OK, who am I against when I am a Universal person of many races and nationalities? Thank God for for this and that in my entire life I never heard a family member ever make a racist comment, except for "don't trust whitey." Which I know, now that I am older really meant don't trust whoever is currently in control.

  • @FreedomForHaiti, what kind of a joke tag name is that? What a laugh...

But anyway... free Leonard Peltier!!! And please tell the Mumia Abu-Jamal nitwits to stop trying to compare their criminal to a true freedom fighter..!!

  • Does anyone know if there is a three or four part choral version of this song? I would like to propose it for our community Peace Choir. Or another song about Leonard Peltier ?

Glenn , Cherokee and Powhaton First Peoples !! And All the First Nations !!

  • @west666, do I have to be 'white' to tell the truth? Wikipedia is, for the most part, accurate. Besides, as I stated, scalping wasn't practiced in Europe. Kind of obvious...

  • @bookteafun No it just seems that white people know everything about everything. And Karma is the cause of what happened to our culture because of scalping? Oh so i guess you believe 911 was Karma too? Give me a break.

  • @hazymay, from wikipedia: "Archaeological evidence for such practices in North America dates to at least the early 14th century; a mass grave from that period, containing nearly 500 victims (some with evidence of scalping), was found in South Dakota."

Considering that this is pre-Columbus it seems that YOU don't know YOUR history. It's kind of obvious that it was an Indian practice as it wasn't practiced in Europe or by Europeans elsewhere. As stated, scalping children & women = bad karma!

  • @bookteafun Hahahaha yeah wikipedia thats a very reliable source, you must be a scholar! Hmmm let me guess are you white too?

  • @bookteafun Wikipedia isn't always a reliable source, which is why many college professors don't allow it to be used for student research.

  • @bookteafun Maybe pre columbus, but not pre-french or pre-viking for that matter. We all know that Columbus wasn't the first one to get here from Europe.

  • @braveandtall, too bad Indians started the practice of scalping then, isn't it? Bad karma. As I've said in previous posts, I do support that Indians get a better deal today. But lying and distorting history into some kind of fantasy about them being peaceful peace pipe smoking cats who sat around having pow wows is ridiculous. Indians tribes reaped what they sowed. But it was often seriously wrong what US forces did.

  • @bookteafun Indians did not start the practice of scalping. The British and French who came and started having dealings with the Indians told them to kill the enemy and bring their scalps so they could keep count of how many were being killed. Sorry Sweetie. You don't know your history. Your hands aren't as clean as you think they are.

  • @laviemagique, lying doesn't bolster your credibility. The Solutrean link has been proven by archeologists and geneticists and you know it. All you have proven is that you're someone who will stoop at anything.

braveandtall, you obviously didn't even bother to check what I wrote, so you are in no position to talk about anyone educating themselves. What a fool...

  • i love this version? it has more of a meaning as buffy sings? many bands may sing this song but i like this version? it's all right with ne :)

  • @ bookteafun You need to educate yourself. There is no evidence of Native American races originating from Europe except in the minds of the white archeologists and the media. The first thing a conquering nation does is to exterminate the history of a race and belittle the people to the rank of an animal. Scalps by the way were a good revenue for the whites who got $25 dollars a piece for Native Americans they killed. Like I said, you are ignorant

  • Vae Victis

  • this is an excellent roadtrip song, especially if you're in southern alberta

  • Wow ! I just watch the Annie Mae Story. What a sad state of affairs! Lovely song

  • @MrStanlee9....she was Mik'Maq!!!! <3

  • @Listerine7 yes she was, from my rez in Nova Scotia and my Aunt :)

  • The US should be broken up with some parts being made tribal homelands. Others should be set up as independent countries where other groups can live. The blacks can have Detroit, and the Jews can have New York!

  • All have blood on their hands,

wounded knee was a disgrace to the slimy Federal government!

  • Scalping European women and babies kind of backfired on the Indians, didn't it? They certainly weren't the innocent peace pipe smoking folk pictured in modern politically correct propaganda. In fact many of them have part European blood from the European Solutrean people who were the first humans to set foot in the Americas (and whom were genocided by the Indians), which has been proven in recent archeological finds beyond a doubt. Nevertheless, the Indians deserve a better deal. Peace!

  • @bookteafun

The Solutrean hypothesis has been debunked, both by archeologist and by geneticists.

  • @bookteafun - Mitochondrial Population Genomics Supports a Single Pre-Clovis Origin with a Coastal Route for the Peopling of the Americas from the American Journal of Human Genetics:

Native American populations exhibit almost exclusively five mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups (A–D and X). Haplogroups A–D are also frequent in Asia, suggesting a northeastern Asian origin of these lineages.

  • @scorchedearthdj These ppl can say what they want but WE WERE HERE FIRST!! you dont see norse jap or italian tribes! AHO!!

  • disprespect us again b!.. this song is to honour our ppl... and it does just that!!

  • Though I was not yet born when this occurred: it breaks my heart. It reminds me of the collateral murder video, another killing in the name of corporations, enslavement for money (greed) I wonder, how many hearts must be broken, and how many times, until we all know we are brothers and sisters, and what we do to one, we do to ourselves.

  • Great song

  • Grow up and act civilized, people. A Great Documentary having not much to do with Indians per se but, everything this Nation needs is... "This Land Is Our Land" on Linktv org about the original intentions of our forefathers to create a nation - For The Common Good -For The Common "Man" - By The Common "Man" - Not The Elitist Rich. Who started this Conscious Civil War among Americans ? - George H.W. Bush in his campaigns purposely using a "Divide & conquer" his own people - just 4 $ Dicatatorship

  • She definitely sings about the truth. Makes me proud that I've seen her in concert several times.

  • what an amazing and powerful song! I remember this from when I was a kid.

  • wow!cant we just get along, sure love the live version though!Rock on Buffy!

  • Our indigenous people of the world must save the earth, she is in much need of help from the white man killing her,(unci maka) Grandmother earth is slowly dying from all the pain they've caused.

  • I recently read an article about the structure of an individuals preceding generational relatives when I came across the statement that we are all, every one of us, blood related, at the most as 50th cousins. Look up primordial Eve. Our mother.

The only differences in human beings are brought about by environmental influences and life experiences. We are one people. We can and should learn from each other. Then we just have to rise above politics, religion, and greed and we're home free.

  • BSM, my heart is always with you. Always has been since I first heard your music 40 years ago and will still be as long as I have one.

  • Lelelelelele; SO TRUE!!!!

  • Who can know the definition of how to "act human?" No one can know that. To be human means we make mistakes. Native people are not incorruptible just for being native. In my county they fight each other in tribal court over their tribal funds because they do not like to share with natives who may be eligible. Isn't this repeating the same mistakes?

  • White, red, green, yellow, purple, blue, it is not about our colors! It will be the end of the WORLD, the end of US, the end of your fight within yourself. It is just OLD ENERGY that we all need to CLEAR from our consciousness. The government and the FBI and the CIA...well they are another story. Their day is DONE.

  • ALL I have to say to all of those here who grab at harmful words and ideas of NO USE NOW is that when we make peace with each others soul beneath the color, it will be then that we are healed and can go on living on our Mother Earth. IT IS TIME TO LOVE AND CARE FOR EACH OTHER. Look at what we have done to her. Your anger and unforgiveness is every bit as responsible as any white's act.

  • @lumeriam Take you message of love and care to your white people, they are the one who need to learn to love and care. White people are consumed with hate and bitterness. How many whites can sleep in peace on their bed? There are many whites who cannot sleep without the pill, even teenagers. Isn't this an indication there is a mental problem with white people? The curse of blood guilt is what white people are under.

  • @TheWhiteBuster only one here who cannot let go of bitterness and hatred is you dear sister. GO in peace and in Love.

  • @lumeriam You must be one arrogant Christian who need to be told the truth. In the name of your god your forefather savagely destroyed a whole continent. So take your fucken Jesus Christ some place else. I use to be a Christian and I know how slimy your parasites are. In love and peace you'll come and when you'll don't win souls for your fucken Jesus you'll want to see us burn in hell. Fuck off white BITCH!

  • @TheWhiteBuster Wrong again. I am not Christian by a long-shot. Actually I'm much more aboriginal than you think and it is you who hates everyone and everything on Earth. Bye now.

  • this is GREAT Music!

  • I'm white and I'm not racist I had a exchange student and he was colombian he was awesome!!! He was also good at halo I miss him

  • I have never been proud of being White. And that is because I know the history. Of Man.

  • Likely, white America has unjustly taken far too much from Native Americans. But I have a question: wouldn't it do more good now if we just treated them like anyone else, not with special rights and the like? I'm generalizing, but truthfully, where I live, I see a lot of drugs and dirtiness. Is government welfare/special-rights stuff actually helping at all? Aren't we white Americans making the problem of drugs and financial instability worse for Native Americans by our reservation segregation?

  • @vortexwhispers I don't know about the US, but in Canada, we've given them a generational illness from taking their children away and abusing them in "schools." It would not improve their communities' mental health to take them off of the support that we withheld for over a hundred years (breaking our own laws). Furthermore, people don't choose drugs to cope with being on welfare, they use drugs to cope with -needing- welfare (whether on it or not); it's humiliating to have no home or work.

  • @vortexwhispers Native deserve to be treated with special right. This is their land and they are entitled to royalties from the minerals and natural resources the non natives are exploiting this land off. And remember "As long as the sun shines, the river flows and the grass grows" there are treaties. Whites have been robbing these people, there are natives who have gone to their graves with broken treaties and this the curse that is upon every white in the America.

  • PROUD TO BE A STRONG NATIVE WOMAN!

  • ~ Native Pride !! ~

  • It's a question of Spirit -- not race.. Hoka Hey!

  • @johnGA30 What is the meaning of Hoka Hey?

  • @MyHealingSoul Hoka Hey is a war cry. It encompasses a philosophy which embodies reasoning, affect, and a call to arms. The meaning for some takes a lifetime to grasp. literally translated it means that today is a good day to die. It is a lifestyle and philosophy of self sacrifice to people. It is love of coming generations that you will never meet. It is the depth of the entirety of ones being lined up to face a foe, or perform a difficult task for the benefit of the people, not one's self.

  • @jimlap4712 Thank you very much for the explanation. I am new to North America and I mix & mingle with the Aboriginal people to get a first hand understanding of the people and their customs. Great people and meaningful traditions and customs. There is much to learn from the Aboriginals. Be strong and of good courage.

  • this has got to be my most favorite song.,and she is my idol!!!!

  • i'll always back you up. they fucked you around and it aint right! so fuck 'em right back! besides, this isnt a British populated place any more, you could probably snag huge bits of land back and the Punjabi's, Hindi's, Indonesians, Koreans, Peruvians, etc, wont do a thing to stop you! some white dude might whine about but who cares!

  • This really takes me back, my family was good friends with Buffy, she lived in a house my dad built, I remember good times watching movies at her home with her son, Cody. She was a very kind woman, open and unique for her time.

  • Racism is part of the sic=k side of humanity, don,t see it ending soon sadly.

  • this song makes me sad the lyrics make me mad. our poor mother earth. but it is the truth. i love you Buffy.

  • Buffy, i ADORE you! <3

  • The bullets don't match the gun.

  • "Sivilisized" people are stupid all over the world, they take everything from innocent, kind and childish people like native people.

I don´t know all the evil words in english, that describe them, people, who vant all and then destroy the valuable things they got, native people, their land, plants and animals. Problem is same all over the world. Greetins from Finland

  • Thank you Buffy I hope your still alive and well=Love you, Mutt"Tim" Marker.

  • @RedDeadAustin Oh, go get hit by a truck if that's what it takes to knock some open-mindedness and a sense of respect in to you, you hatemonger.

  • @NativeAmerican4Life

Hi again friend. Gosh it has been a weird ass while, I hope life has been kinder to you than me lately. It's irreducibleParadox, official madman, and dumb-ass of recent conflicts.

  • @RedDeadAustin I know alot of Rich White Hunters who are a bunch of worthless drunkards, so where do you ever draw the line? At those who call themselves 'Civilized'? If the 'white man' were civilized, he never would have been able to kill off so many Native Americans and corral those who were left, off to 'Reservations'.I am ashamed of my white genetic ancestory, I am ashamed that white cousins still are to arrogant and defensive to apologize for the violence of our ancestors! Fuck Yourself!

  • @RedDeadAustin Yeah you're absolutely right, we should thank you for coming here and polluting all the waters so we can no longer drink or fish from them, we should thank you for making many different species of animals extinct, we should thank you for destroying the land, destroying the fresh water wasn't enough now you have to go for the oceans,

  • @RedDeadAustin and before you run your mouth about finishing people off, if it wasn't for our kindness you all would have died of scurvy when your people first arrived here.

  • @RedDeadAustin I assume that you are probably an uneducated man from the backwoods, in which case you are to be pitied rather than despised. You have developed the same mentality as those who deny the holocaust. Once you have learned to read, maybe you could learn something of your country's true history, which you might find quite enlighening. Incidentally I have no personal axe to grind over this. I am white and not even a citizen of the United States, but merely an interested observer.

  • I've loved Buffy's music for 40 years... she's an incredible writer and singer... one of the best....

    Randy

  • I am a red man. If the Great Spirit had desired me to be a white man he would have made me so in the first place. He put in your heart certain wishes and plans, in my heart he put other and different desires. Each man is good in his sight. It is not necessary for Eagles to be Crows. We are poor..but we are free. No white man controls our footsteps. If we must die...we die defending our rights (sitting bull)

  • @helldog134 Right back at you! If the Great Spirit had desired me to be born Native American he would have made me so. I hope to have earned that privilage in this lifetime by refusing to go along with my wealthy white uncles crap! I have learned that Crows Eagles and Hawks all communicate between them. Humans are the most ignorant species on the planet, we can't seem to communicate between us! I do hope to get reincarnated to some indigeneous culture in my next life. I want to return, ha♫♪♫

  • POWER TO MY PEOPLE

  • this has a certain relevence considering the G20 deal! the lyrics fit!

  • i cried the first timei heard this song, whiteman can never hide what has been done at wounded knee and so many other places! we the people will always be around, the Red Nations! lets pray that justice be made soon. bury my heart at wounded knee. :'(

  • i cried the first timei heard this song, whiteman can never hide what has been done at wounded knee and so many other places! we the people will always be around, the Red Nations! lets pray that justice be made soon.

  • the poor black slaves,,,,,,they seem to get more out of the country than the [ red indian [ [native ] people

  • the native americans are lovely people now have a look what is in the country now ? trash

  • Wow, why is it that this world cant seem to realize theres no such thing as a pure raise anymore. At least in the US and some other countrys. This talks about the cherokee's past.

  • why is there not a NATIVE PEOPLES Holiday? it could be in April,June or August!

this nation honors christopho columbo in October and he wasn't even an American! he,ferdinand and isabella(of the infamous inquistion) certainly exterminated many of the Native Peoples. jesus christ isn't even an American and he gets 2 holidays! he's one of Your gods, not ours! Memorial Day was started by widows, mothers, daughters of the CSA!

  • then right a wrong and give the land back and leave! they have plenty of room for Your lazy slothful criminal kapitalist ass in iraq since you wanted it anyway! as of 1970, there had been 500 treaties by the US with Native Peoples. all but 1 had been broken!! take Your crime and filth and just leave!!

  • aint she cool !

  • When are they going to free Leonard Peltier?

  • Love This Song

  • Of course not all white men are evil; but far too many of them are!

Try this video by Kevin Annett about the genocide and 'war on children' in Canada by State and Church:

UNREPENTANT: KEVIN ANNETT AND CANADA'S GENOCIDE

    London UK

  • The Native people were clever. They new what would happen to the earth if too much was taken too quickly. We didn't care! 29th Dec 1890 was the day we destroyed more than a race... we destroyed the human race. Since those tragic days we have consumed more and more and now we really are in trouble. Is this not obvious or am I the only one who's sees that day for what it really was? Everything is connected remember, a butterfly flapping its wings all those years ago...now comes the great storm

  • @Dandaniels1978 you are right, i believe most of the representants of "white peopleS" lost their connection to the Land long ago and could not hear the storm comming...but why did we lost it? we had it? white peopleS were Natives of their lands...why did they quit them to steal other lands? why this urge to have more? it was not even for the beauty of the land that they stole it!

  • @clairenunavut.....I've often asked the same questions many times over and after careful consideration I always come up with the same conclusion....

    Ignorance

  • @Dandaniels1978 yes you right, that's part of why i chose to be anthropologist...help in my little way to fight that ignorance between peoples.

  • @clairenunavut ...As Albert Einstein famously quoted....."Remember your humanity and forget the rest" x

  • Wow. This song is a reminder just how powerful words can be--and how powerful art can be. Love it. "The bullets don't match the gun!"

  • Thanks Buffy,

    for such a true song...

I hope some will think about this lyrics and feel it and not only listen...

We'll stay strong and keep our heads held high and walk pride...

Remember your culture and learn from it :)

    Respect mother-earth...Stay United...

We all could walk hand in hand...I hope maybe one day...SHIKAHYOU

  • yes a sad song but true and what a voice ... class

  • I weep tears for all humanity. I have been listening to Buffy for decades and I love her lyrics, 'cause they are so true. Thanks Buffy, you're the best.

  • peace, justice, resolution. we will all be accountable for our actions, the truth will come.

wi shis ki shi, chag an nosh

    sound it out

  • I am ashamed every day for the murder of a people and a unique culture. No more excuses. Free the Native American.

  • We are free

  • @ibrsued I agree with u!

  • Comment removed

  • @ibrsued

Did you murder anyone, or their culture?

You shouldn't be ashamed for sins you did not commit. Angry, sure. But not ashamed.

  • They tell 'ya Honey, you can still be an Indian

    D-d-down at the 'Y'
