@89Valkyrie Had you payed attention, he said a bucket of lava was supposed to cook 100 of whatever you're cooking. Coal cooks at a 1 to 8 ratio I think. As an example, to smelt 100 bars of iron, you could use either 3 bars of iron, or 12.5 pieces of coal. Which is more efficient? Also, if you watch the furnace you could pull the bucket of lava out before it expires, thus saving your bucket from vanishing.

@89Valkyrie Well of course, if you have a ton of coal and very little iron, then using coal is the way to go. But if you don't have a lot of coal, using the bucket of lava saves your coal for torches. Besides, like I said, if you pull the bucket of lava out of the furnace before it expires, you don't lose your bucket and you don't use any coal either.
