I think if it was banned at all, it's because it says in the end: "the fastest saloon car in the world"... it would actually have to be true in order to say that..and i don't think that M5 is the fastest, nor was it ever. Before i get 100 thumbs down and get cursed, I own a BMW and LOVE it!!!

@luedriver yes, I think the Lotus Omega (based on the Opel Omega model) still reigned as the fastest saloon car. It was produced during 92' and 93', in a limited edition, 1000 units, 3.6 biturbo, 6 cylinder, 388hp. It was the fastest saloon car for a while. I don't know which car broke its record. I was driven in one by a champion racecar driver, and the car's crazy!!

so the BMW M5 with the limiter did 25o km/hr while the lotus omega did 280, but...

without the limiter the M5 also went up to 280 km/hr...

@luedriver Only 280km/h? That's a mistake. I know for sure that this Lotus I was driven in had a chip and reached 310-315km/h. Now I cannot confirm that, but long time ago i searched youtube of clips of the Lotus, and you'll see that hitting 300km on the speedo is not uncommon for that Lotus.

400 hp V8 and a straight 6 with 2 turbos 388 hp...

it is likely that they both could do 300 or more...

a m3 e30 with only 190hp can go up to 240 km/r....

@luedriver Yes, I agree. I am not putting down the BMW, i believe they're pretty much the same. But I know for a fact that for a while the Lotus was officially the fastest saloon car in the world. I don't know for how long or who broke its record, but I think it was not the M5. Oh, and this E39 came out in 95' or 96', and the Lotus was produced in 92' and 93', so the earlier M5 is its rival, and that earlier one has only 320hp as far as I remember.

@Jicba87 When the E39 M5 came out it was the fastest saloon car at that time. Delimited it could reach 300km/h. Currently the fastest saloon car is the BMW M5 G Power Hurricane RR ~ 372km/h.

@Jicba87 it probably was the fastest saloon car at the time... coz S65 AMG started production in 2006 and this commercial was in 2004. not sure but i guess m5 was the lightest saloon car to have 400bhp at the time.. in specs rs6 is 100 milliseconds faster.. i dont trust those specs anyways :)

@Jicba87 yes.. maybe it is not the fastest saloon car in the world... but i love BMWs because.. is an awesome piece of work which includes many technological inventions put on one single car, a number of patents, impressive RnD, and the safety level based on the km/h capabilities each model can do, is really high. I have seen a series 5 BMW (530) crashing on a pole with 110 Km/h, the front of the car literary disappeared, but the cabin was intact, passengers got out without a scratch.
