I like how the trainer tricks people into using their other muscle groups while working their abs. That's the secret to burning fat. The abs themselves burn very few calories, but the other muscle groups burn hella calories!

Machines tend to isolate specific muscles, where as if you did this you have to use all your muscle groups in your abdominal region. It promotes more activity with your joint stabilizer muscles, plus this is a ton cheaper than some crumby machine you can do 2 or 3 exercises with. Machines are meant for rehab, not a serious workout. So it seems its you thats the fucking moron.

Thanks so much! I have done the axe chop using the rope/cable and it's great for abs/obliques. Saw it in a book by Michael Colgan and he swears by it. Never thought about how it could be done with just a dumbell.
