  • How to improvise on piano: close your eyes and hit the keys.

  • What should I do with my fingers again?

  • ......The hell did I just watch?

  • cool video.. you look like a girl a dated years ago in a scary way.. she sucked at playing the piano tho and could never make a video to help anyone learn anything cause she was a retard.. but you seem cool.. keep teaching the people how to jam!

  • The reason why "black keys" other wise known as sharps or flats always work is because in the keys of B, F#(g flat) and c#(d flat) you use all of them so they're all in the key you can do the same thing with white keys because they're all in the key of C.

  • @Hatebreeder92 the reason why you can play the black keys however you want is because they are a pentatonic scale and have no clashing notes between them, you cant do the same thing with the white notes, well, you can but not with all of them.. a pentatonic scale on the white keys would be like a, c, d, e, g, a.. personally though i think this is a crap way to learn to improvise..

  • why do hippies get so caught up with Ab7sus4??

  • once you go black you never go back

  • Steve Buscemi's daughter?

  • your last names cool

  • I searched piano tips and found this. Then wanted to slap myself for hardly ever playing the black keys. I'm learning virtually cold turkey if that makes any sense. ._.

  • @quirkjerks this wont teach you to play, id carry on learning cold turkey.. or if you do fancy doing some easy improv then learn the jazz scales.. everything you play like this sounds like chopsticks

  • @quirkjerks get a teacher. buy books. what ever you do; dont look on expertvillage

  • Wow. Cool! View 24,000:)

  • YOU RACIST SON OF A BLEEP.... I THOUGHT THE WHOLE PIANO WAS MAGICAL!!!

  • "Because the black notes are magical... everything sounds beautiful on the black notes." You're awesome. :)

  • Great help :) Really thanks :D

  • FOR ME BLACK KEYS ARE NOT MAGICAL....BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY ARRANGE IN THE MAJOR SCALE...WHICH IS THE KEY OF " B".

  • @harveeserenity It's actually F# pentatonic scale... You can't make a pentatonic scale sound bad.

  • Soo.. it's true then.. "Once You Go Back, You Never go Back" ? lol

  • @SkullBaluchimon101 I love you :) <3

  • ii think for beginner, its nice idea :)

  • ...is this supposed to be a "you-don't-have-to-learn-anything-about-music-to-be-able-to-play-the-piano" approach? This makes no sense, there aren't any shortcuts to playing the piano, you really have to learn how to do it, learn the scales, learn the proper technique, study. It's not just "play the black notes with these fingers", that's an empirical way of making lazy people think they can play the piano... oh well, suit yourselves...

  • you're obviously right

  • My kids have both gravitated to the black notes as they have made up their own songs....they really are magical.

  • nice i wanna learn this

Anyway i started playing like 6 months ago i know all the scales from c-G and some sharps i need advice

How can i improve my playing so it doesn't have an gaps and it sounds filled instead of playing with gaps and it sounding amateur like u might say ??

plz any comments and advice would be good

Another thing is i play by hear :(

  • it just comes done to practice, play the scales faster and faster until you become more fluent. u can also use the sustain to get rid of the gaps while you reposition your hand, if it's a slowish song.

  • You kinda remind me of Alex from Lost! xD

  • Hello Athena,

If a musician sings flat you know how bad it sounds. Most young school orchestras/bands don't really play in tune and you know how that sounds. Your piano, if tuned, would make the videos soooo much better musically.

  • just like real life everythings better on black

  • .... legalzin.... ^^

  • this is wonderful. Thank you so much.

Beautiful! I'll look for you site.

  • HANDy tips!!

  • haha, she's a love of music in the key of C -sharp major!

  • It sounds china cuz its the penta tonic scale...note only 5 keys per octave are black

  • you could have shortened his video into the phrase - 'press any old black notes and retarded people will think you can play the piano'

  • Yeah, you're right, that drivel about "magical" and "beatiful" is driving me bananas, because it's just a simple pentatonic scale and, like Brian Posehn said, "even a monkey could to it, just give it a try".

  • Heya! This is Athena Reich - the girl in the video. Thanks for the love :) Subscribe to my channel. Google me and get in touch!

  • yea it sounds kinda china.

  • The black notes form the pentatonic scale, used in music across the world and across every genre : folk, classical, jazz, blues, rock and so on.

  • haha, if u only play the black keys, ur kinda playing chinese music. Coz old chinese music does not have as much keys as modern music, they only have 5 keys. So basically everything sounds good not matter what u play

  • haaha yeah its pentatonic! =]

  • Can you do a video on how to improve sheet music reading?
