Thanks for commenting, Jeanne. I had wanted to use that quotation but could not for the life of me remember where you had got it from and I didn't want to quote something that I couldn't link back to the source.
I have always found that stat helpful because it really gives people an idea of the scope of things. The first time I heard that, I was just blown away. The comparison between the prevalence of endo as opposed to cancer and AIDS was just striking to me. 89 million is a LOT of patients!
“It is estimated that between 2 % & 10 % of American women – or 5.5 million women & girls – of childbearing age have endometriosis. This makes endometriosis more common than AIDS & more common than cancer. Endometriosis is one of the 3 major causes of female infertility”, as per Ohio State University Medical Center. I realize that quote refers to U.S. statistics but I often quote it because of the context it gives (the cancer & AIDS references). Endometriosis is so prevalent!
Thank you so much for posting this video about endometriosis! Endometriosis awareness is so important & your candor is always refreshing. I see that the link to our endometriosis petition is posted on your site, Amanda's Patch. ANYONE who supports the endometriosis cause can sign! With 89 million endometriosis patients worldwide, it's just crucial to increase awareness. So thank you very much! :)
