Honestly, I don't like your description on tonguing. You're not supposed to touch the actual mouthpiece with your tongue when you tongue, you're supposed to hit a bit higher when you said you had a "Bad habit". You don't stop the air with your tongue, you stop the reed from vibrating. When you tongue, you're supposed to essentailly "say" Ta-Ta-Ta, or Tuh Tuh Tuh. In a legato section, say Da-Da-Da.
HELP ME!! EVERYONES GOING FARHTER THAN I CAN...WHEN IT COMES TO TEST TIME I'M EMBARASSED TO PLAY BECAUSE I CAN NOT PLAY THE SONGS THEY TEST ME ON. I MUST EITHER BREAK MY REED OR FORGET MY INSTRUMENT...PURPOSELY.
@LilaAndDanny Make sure you're covering the holes completely. Try taking in more (or less) mouthpiece. What kind of reed are you using? Different reeds make it harder to produce a sound. There are a lot of different reasons the C might not come out, but I remember that when I was trying to learn it I had to practice it for days. It'll probably be easier to see someone in person... ask your teacher or a friend. I'm sure they'll be glad to help :)
@LilaAndDanny Hello! Um do u mean high or middle c? If middle c just make sure ur covering all three holes. If high c finger low f natural then just add the Register Key but blow GENTLY or else you'll squeak. Trust me Ive been playin for 10 years now!
@RandomKitty56 Wow, that's actually really good that you can get up to B and C in one day!!! Are you playing the C# on the left? If so, sometimes the third finger on the left hand moves so make sure it's covering the hole completely. If you are playing it on the right, check all of your fingers and just practice, practice, practice.
@LEXI14ful 1) Make sure your fingers are completely covering the wholes, 2) Make sure your embouchure is correct, 3) going with embouchure, make sure you are holding on to the mouthpiece with your teeth quite tightly so that it will not move when you are playing and 4) use a lot of air!
1. Thanks for these lessons Princess littlesdick. I've found them very helpfull.
Have you ever seen the film School of Rock. Jack Black, as the teacher says to the class 'don't do anything pure or awesome- because the man will crush your soul'. Well the man he was talking about was Sclms46.
I think you are the best teacher because you CARE. Who else but a caring person would put on vids for nothing and then offer personal advice to anyone who asks.
2. You don't have to have a vast amount of knowledge to teach others - just more than they have. Learning an instrument is difficult enough without someone raming theory down your throat right from the start. Nice and Gentle just like this. I have found these vids much more helpfull than the so called experts (like expert village).
Other comments that take you to task on slip ups are quit helpfull. You keep saying register instead of octave key - I do the same -do you play Sax too I wonder. 5*
ok... As far as I'm concerned your still a beginner yourself. A few basic ideas of how to play the clarinet don't give you the right to teach others quite yet. To teach beginners you have to have a much larger amount of knowledge. SORRY.
PS. maybe don't teach something you don't understand yourself. (aka tonguing)
i dont think your putting your tounge to the top of the reed. it sounds like your hitting it and not just stopping the air. i had a horrible time with this a few years ago. ive been playing for 7 years. but i love that your making these videos and trying to help people. you should make more, showing people that you are progressing as well
I still have a hard time tongueing, and I can play the high C but I can't play the high B!- I have a hard time; only if I play the high C, then high B. Can you help me?
Just continue trying to play the B. At first it will be really difficult. There are also alternate fingerings. Look up a fingering chart. You may find one easier.
Your doing well for a beginner, I didnt really watch your video i just scimmed through it, but you should work on your finger positions. If you adjust it just slightly you will be able to play alot faster. Ask your private instructor if you have one om msg me and ill describe it better. Also your tone needs some work but your doing a good job for your age. =)
Sorry for the late reply. For some reason I missed this comment. All of the tutorials are in a playlist, so if you go to my channel all of them are connected. I'm not sure how many there are.
I was wondering....Do u have video where you explain the levers and stuff on the clarinet? I can really use some help with notes and stuff, oh, and using the octave key on the back(Is it called an octave key?) Thanks so much for ur help!
There's one where it says all of the parts of the clarinet. I accidentally called it an octave key in one of the videos but it's actually called the register key. That will be coming soon, esp. with high notes.
hi dont take this offensive but im not sure ur really the clarinetist to be giving turorials and can u make a video showing everybody how good u are and im just saying this everyone is thinking it
Hey there! I stumbled across your Clarinet tutorials and I think it's all a wonderful cause and your teaching is definitely helpful for beginners: Real friendly and not intimidating like it normally would be.
I personally haven't yet bought a clarinet but really want to play one. My question is if you have any suggestions for purchasing a first clarinet. Do you know of the cheapest or most recommendable prices? Thank you so much. This is all very helpful. ^^
I am not really sure for the purchasing. Sorry! But I would reccomend renting a clarinet before buying one to make sure you like it.
I am sure you will be a great clarinet player. In one of my videos I ask people showing me their progress over a video if they want. If you'd like to do that and get more personal help that'd be awesome.
I bought a new clarinet over the summer. I bought a Vito 7212 Clarinet. It is cheap ~$400, plays in tune, well made and looks nice to boot! For students, plastic is the way to go. It wise to invest in a good mouthpiece and ligature.
Clarinets are great in that they are the cheapest instruments you can buy and get started without investing a ton of money. Perhaps littlesdchick's advice to rent before buying is a good idea if you are unsure about your commitment. -Scott
Thanks to you both. ^^ I recently called our local music center to ask about clarinet rentals and that's exactly what I'll do. If I really am interested in continuing to play after 3 months, then I'll buy one. :D Thanks for your advice!
See if you can find a place that rents Vito 7212's (or at least will sell them and let you purchase that even if they don't rent them). This way, if you choose to convert from rental to purchase, you have already paid towards your new Vito. If you need help on mouth piece and ligature choices, let me know, as I did a fair amount of research on quality and prices...
Awesome, you replied to my comment before the video was even done! I'm getting my clarinet in a few days, I'll definitely post a video response showing my progress or lack thereof LOL!
woah really? That is really cool! Thanks, I'd enjoy watching that, and I'm sure you'll have progress.. it's hard at first though, but once u can play some notes, it is fun. :)
