Nas has an excellent flow, Pac's is average...but if pac had a flow like Nas then he wouldn't be able to put so much emphasis in what he's saying.
Yo. Pac's flow was straight. His flow was so good that he could take it on any beat and make it sound good. Ask most MC's that exist today. They'll tell you that Pac's flow is the type of flow you aspire to have. Nas' flow is okay, but dated. It sounded better when he first came out.
I am an mc today...I'm ALSO a music major....Nas' flow is not dated, Nas' flow is consistent. Flow is rhythm...forget rap, forget the word flow...in MUSIC the word is RHYTHM. Rhythm = A consistent metronome which = words. Nas has a consistent flow that rides like a hi hat. Pac only focused on snares and occasionally kicks. That's why nas' flow is so great.
Quick question. How did Pac focus on snares when he wrote his shit without beats? This was a quote from one of his producers, "Before Pac died, he was writing so much we couldn't come up with beats fast enough". Take a look at the Machavelli underground tapes. They had one set of beats. Then the two double discs came out that had the same songs except with DIFFERENT beats. Pac's flow was phenomenal. It could transcend from one beat to another beat to another beat and still sound good.
absolutely ANY emcee can do that...I've recycled verse hundreds of times on different beats...Rhythm is rhythm regardless, its just slowed down or sped up...in fact EVERY time you hear a quote on quote "Radio freestyle" thats exactly what it is. Emcees just spit verses they already wrote...even royce did it on that slaughterhouse freestyle, his verse was recycled from one of his other songs on a completely different beat.
And when you talk about flow and you talk about rap, which is what we're doing in this case, it's all about how it moves with the beat. This isn't music theory. It's hip hop. People make the argument all the time that rap isn't real music because there's no melody. It doesn't fit into the mold of what music is considered, so you can't use a musical definition to describe something that, in and of itself, is not technically music. This according to people with degrees in music.
I said this before. I love Pac, but he wasn't a lyricist. He was a street poet. What he said was so real that you felt it. He was great because he was able to go straight hood on one song, then bring a little love ballad, then spit some knowledge. How many times did Pac rhyme "thug nigga" and "drug deala"? Too many times for me to count.
If you think Joe Budden is average then you need to cut your ears off. Joe already killed Jay on the pump it up remix lol. Sheek Louch now hes average at best

as a rapper I know what makes a good lyricist. I don't really incorporate flow into lyricism...if you DO consider flow to be lyricism then Nas would murder Tupac in comparison. Nas has an excellent flow, Pac's is average...but if pac had a flow like Nas then he wouldn't be able to put so much emphasis in what he's saying.

Yo. Pac's flow was straight. His flow was so good that he could take it on any beat and make it sound good. Ask most MC's that exist today. They'll tell you that Pac's flow is the type of flow you aspire to have. Nas' flow is okay, but dated. It sounded better when he first came out.

I am an mc today...I'm ALSO a music major....Nas' flow is not dated, Nas' flow is consistent. Flow is rhythm...forget rap, forget the word flow...in MUSIC the word is RHYTHM. Rhythm = A consistent metronome which = words. Nas has a consistent flow that rides like a hi hat. Pac only focused on snares and occasionally kicks. That's why nas' flow is so great.

Quick question. How did Pac focus on snares when he wrote his shit without beats? This was a quote from one of his producers, "Before Pac died, he was writing so much we couldn't come up with beats fast enough". Take a look at the Machavelli underground tapes. They had one set of beats. Then the two double discs came out that had the same songs except with DIFFERENT beats. Pac's flow was phenomenal. It could transcend from one beat to another beat to another beat and still sound good.

absolutely ANY emcee can do that...I've recycled verse hundreds of times on different beats...Rhythm is rhythm regardless, its just slowed down or sped up...in fact EVERY time you hear a quote on quote "Radio freestyle" thats exactly what it is. Emcees just spit verses they already wrote...even royce did it on that slaughterhouse freestyle, his verse was recycled from one of his other songs on a completely different beat.

And when you talk about flow and you talk about rap, which is what we're doing in this case, it's all about how it moves with the beat. This isn't music theory. It's hip hop. People make the argument all the time that rap isn't real music because there's no melody. It doesn't fit into the mold of what music is considered, so you can't use a musical definition to describe something that, in and of itself, is not technically music. This according to people with degrees in music.

I said this before. I love Pac, but he wasn't a lyricist. He was a street poet. What he said was so real that you felt it. He was great because he was able to go straight hood on one song, then bring a little love ballad, then spit some knowledge. How many times did Pac rhyme "thug nigga" and "drug deala"? Too many times for me to count.
