O_o wierd. in all my playthroughs thus far, he's ALWAYS dropped weapons first. i killed him 4 times, got the ultimas for Souji, Yosuke, Chie & Yukiko (my standard party), then did over 30 kills, almost nothing but robes, a few orbs. then as soon as i swapped out yosuke for Naoto and killed the reaper again, he dropped the black hole. also... where did all that exp come from? the most i've ever gotten from him was 1599, and this was on solo kills.
@YamishiMizuandDracus The experience you get from shadows tend to vary upon level. I get about 400 for beating the reaper right now, and I'm level 88. I guess it's to prevent people from farming too much on one area.
@unfunny12 in my opinion the reaper in p3 is harder because in p4 yu can only fight the reaper durng the second playthrough while in persona 3 you can fight the reaper as soon as your second trip to tartarus

This is New Game Plus which is an new game with extras one of which is being able to summon personas registered in the conpudieom regardless of your level, so if he registered yoshitune in his first playthrough he can summon it as long as you have engough money.

me first beat the reaper on level 53, while hunting for rainy monsters on marukyu striptease. my current storyline for that time was the hunt for mitsuo. remembering my first encounter i fought reaper on the 6th floor, there was not only one, but two chest containing the reaper. the first time i defeated reaper dropped blade of totsuka(MC's ulti weapon) and second one was malakh
You caught it only twice so far? Sheesh, I must be lucky then... I've "caught" Death at least once in each dungeon in each visit and I'm going for the minimal amount of entry in. One Day Clears for Main Story and One Day Clears for Optional Bosses. So far I'm at Five encounters with Death at least.
So that's how you find the Reaper. I was wondering how you encounter the prick! I guess I was lucky not meeting him yet! XD But do you need certain conditions to fight this guy?
Hmm, good strategy for fighting him at the earliest possible opportunity. I'll be building my Personas on the first playthrough with the Reaper in mind.
1 - no one's name is The Protagonist. That would make his first name "The", and "Protagonist" the family name, or inversed if translated from Japanese properly.
2 - Since the real name is not reffered nor available for Default in the name entry screen, there is only the Manga version. Seen as the characters are all named equally, it would only make sense that "The Protagonist" would have the same name.
The MC has no name, other than the name you give them.
'MC' and 'The Protagonist' is only a way to say ''That's the main character of the game!''.
The Manga version gave the name Soji Seta, only to make it a bit more realistic. Just think of the Manga writer be the player and he gives the character a name.
1 - 'The Protagonist' is not his literal name. 'The Protagonist' is a replacement for his name because it does not exist. The Japanese call him 'Shujinko', which means 'Protagonist'.
2 - The fact that he has no name and that the manga name is a single person's take on the character, this point is irrelevant.
1 - There's not a lot of difference between "The Protagonist" and "Protagonist", since both mean exactly the same. Previous instalments of Persona had official names, therefor, these are allowed to have so as well - not just because you have decided that they do not.
2 - Because there IS a single person's take on the character's name, it exists. So it is "Protagonist" no more. Otherwise, he would still be reffered to as "You", "Him" or titles.
Furthermore, the reason for not having a Default name is "personalisation". A name entry has been always available, save for Digital Devil Saga. And why? Because names are never pronounced towards the protagonist, to enhance the feel of a "Silent Protagonist". To enhance the feel that you ARE totally in control of your main character. That would make sense, since the game is about different Personalities.

Ohhhhh! My first battle with him was when everyone was at level 58 when I was venturing (and lvl-upping) in the Secret Laboratory.
I was going to open a treasure box (obviously) and I was tired and didn't even pay attention to the warnings before opening the box.
I was like "Ho' shit! This bastard is SCARY!"
It was a fierce battle and I used ALLLLL my SP item because I had used it all during battles.

I tried fighting The Reaper in the Bathhouse when I was level 25. I failed miserably.

nice going there, I lost at level 67, then beat him at 75 after getting a yoshi. If I had used the compendium, maybe I could have done it.

me first beat the reaper on level 53, while hunting for rainy monsters on marukyu striptease. my current storyline for that time was the hunt for mitsuo. remembering my first encounter i fought reaper on the 6th floor, there was not only one, but two chest containing the reaper. the first time i defeated reaper dropped blade of totsuka(MC's ulti weapon) and second one was malakh

You caught it only twice so far? Sheesh, I must be lucky then... I've "caught" Death at least once in each dungeon in each visit and I'm going for the minimal amount of entry in. One Day Clears for Main Story and One Day Clears for Optional Bosses. So far I'm at Five encounters with Death at least.

The name of the protagonist for Persona 4 is Sōji Seta. People insist on calling them "MC" or "Protagonist". Geez. Research.

That is an interpretation of a manga-ka. The actual canon character is nameless. Look in the instruction book -- his name is The Protagonist.

1 - no one's name is The Protagonist. That would make his first name "The", and "Protagonist" the family name, or inversed if translated from Japanese properly.
2 - Since the real name is not reffered nor available for Default in the name entry screen, there is only the Manga version. Seen as the characters are all named equally, it would only make sense that "The Protagonist" would have the same name.

The MC has no name, other than the name you give them.
'MC' and 'The Protagonist' is only a way to say ''That's the main character of the game!''.
The Manga version gave the name Soji Seta, only to make it a bit more realistic. Just think of the Manga writer be the player and he gives the character a name.

1 - 'The Protagonist' is not his literal name. 'The Protagonist' is a replacement for his name because it does not exist. The Japanese call him 'Shujinko', which means 'Protagonist'.
2 - The fact that he has no name and that the manga name is a single person's take on the character, this point is irrelevant.

1 - There's not a lot of difference between "The Protagonist" and "Protagonist", since both mean exactly the same. Previous instalments of Persona had official names, therefor, these are allowed to have so as well - not just because you have decided that they do not.
2 - Because there IS a single person's take on the character's name, it exists. So it is "Protagonist" no more. Otherwise, he would still be reffered to as "You", "Him" or titles.

Furthermore, the reason for not having a Default name is "personalisation". A name entry has been always available, save for Digital Devil Saga. And why? Because names are never pronounced towards the protagonist, to enhance the feel of a "Silent Protagonist". To enhance the feel that you ARE totally in control of your main character. That would make sense, since the game is about different Personalities.
If you have a better theory, let's hear it.

Yup, but this Persona's MC -- Persona 3, too -- don't have official names.
It exists, yes. But only in the Manga. It is not an 'official' name, and so people do not address the MC as Soji Seta.
Lastly, your final point sums up EXACTLY what i'm trying to say -- he's YOUR character, therefore his name is Soji Seta only to the manga-ka and those who name him so. That's why many others don't call him Soji Seta.

Using the same concepts, lineart and multiple other copyrighted material, hence, Soji Seta.
There are three possible points.
1 - The rights were sold to someone in order to write the manga. Hence, it is official, since the rights were sold and used legally.
2 - The rights were "given", or no copyright-related issues were involved. And as you can see, both are highly unlikely.
3 - The Manga would be made, licensed and supervisd by ATLUS. It isn't the case, but if so, the name is official.

My character has the same character model, voice etc. as the 'official' character. In your logic, that would make my character's name, Hiroto, the official name.
I don't want to debate manga specifics but i'll tell you the name is not official.

No. Because you were not licensed to name the character, nor participated in absolutely anything regarding the merchandise, whereas the creator of the anime, and the "official" name Seta Souji, did. It isn't hard to grasp. It's quite logic.
Of course I would love to say that the "official" name of the character was given by me, but to us, players, his name is ours alone, and it is not official. The creator of the Manga, be him/her part of ATLUS or not, was LICENSED to name him, get it?

And the actual creator of the game said that the name the Manga-ka gave his Soji Seta was ONE PORTRAYAL of the character, and that his official name is not Soji Seta. His official name is NOT SOJI SETA. Gosh, do you read that?! @_@

I'm stating my beliefs. I don't need to make anyone else's words sound like anything. All I need to believe something is proof. And I've got proof and logic to tell me that the name is official. Since there doesn't seem to be proof that ATLUS ever stated that, to me, it is fake, unless someone proves it. Then, I would believe it and even back your theory - till then, it is not a reason, nor a logic.

I killed it in Expert relatively easy... But I guess you just have to take the right party, with the right Persona equipped on Minato and the right level set.
