It is no different than the mark that is mentioned in the OT books of Isaiah, Jerimiah, and Ezekiel that was given to the people back then. It is symbolic language used in anchent hebrew depicting loyalty or "identity with", the mark on the forhead represents ones thoughts and mind, the mark on the hand represents ones deeds.
