  • if u in american use the american way bookie!!! retards

  • @RedNeckChica12 "If you're in America, you use American [spelling], retards"

    I'm Canadian, by the way

  • im canadian and everyone i know spells it theatre. i never saw anyone spell it theater

  • I like your LP poster

  • Canadians like "U"'s :DDD

  • @PurpleCrayon73 we use British English. It has many 'ou' combinations.

  • what can I say.. 0:41 "if the hat fits" 'Canadian' spelling of Colour...

  • @RETRlBUTION and the Canadian spelling is synonymous with British English. As you probably know, many people who don't use British spelling don't realize there IS a British spelling system. You're picking on a 4 year old video over semantics

  • fucking idiot BRITISH SPELLING fucked up bint... fuck the yanks

  • @RETRlBUTION I hope this wasn't referring to me as, being Canadian, I use British English

  • @Emmalene what can I say? if your a cannuck you're not a fucked up yank

  • ХУЙ!

  • Hahaha this argument never EVER had any substance.

Seems to me that if a person wants to teach others about proper english----

They should atleast be aware of the concept of DICTION!!

my god people, if i choose to: Tawk like dis---then that is my DICTION

    case closed dummies.

  • @xhappyannax you made my night!

  • Why would you post a video of grammer on youtube. wtf

  • Le, la, and les aren't homophones... They sound nothing alike, and have (essentially) the same meaning. That's completely different from a homophone, which has the same sound but different meaning.

I really like that you wasted your time making this video. The video was absolutely lacking in useful knowledge. Anyone who needs this video to help with English should find a better source. If this were posted more recently than four years ago, I would've had an obligation to attempt a troll.

  • @zharnotczar Well it's always great to see someone who dislikes the video to be able to post in an intelligent manner, you lose all credibility when you think reverting to trolling is a good way to spend your time. At least your time wasting does have a cut-off date.

Also, le la and les have no place in this video because they are French and this is not a French grammar video.

  • @Emmalene Correct: le, la, and les have no place in this video. You threw them in incorrectly as an example, and could have created confusion.

  • @zharnotczar More like I did create confusion, as I did end up using them incorrectly as an example.

  • Canadian spelling? nothing to see here folks!

  • @chuj00 That doesn't even make any sense...

  • So what if I typo a few times, get over it,this isnt a damn English course. We are all here for one general purpose and that is to communicate the way we cannot or otherwise would not in the real world so lets quit with the dellusions that this or any other video is going to stop people from being what and who they are online. And ask yourself........"how many thank you notes have I got here in posts vs insults and further typos???" lol.

  • @CODEColt45 To paraphrase something you said, If watching a video online moves you so much to make a long-winded comment, express hurt feelings, or go kill yourself, you need to get off the internet.

The great thing about the web is that I can voice these annoyances. It's my channel.

  • @Emmalene lol, well Im glad to see I inspired you but if going to fret(which judging from your videos, seems to be your favorite pasttime on here besides something else that I dare not yet mention unless provoked because its not very nice lol)atleast be original;dont steal other people's content because you lack the wit to come up with something on your own(unless your reading it off of a queue card lol).

  • @Emmalene Honestly, if it pays then it plays as far as Im concerned so if you ACTUALLY have a job as your claiming doing this kind of shit then all the more power too you.Im just growing sick of all these anal retentives online that want to pretend like there some sort of freaking knowledge guru's when the truth is that they have as much of a phsycological dependancy on E-socializing as I or the next person does.

  • @CODEColt45 I do realize that in the video I do come off as a bit bitchy, but would probably not classify myself as anal retentive about it. I complain about it then move along. I would never proclaim myself as the be-all end-all of internet wisdom on any topic, because I can admit when I make a mistake, and there are definitely people who know way more than me.

And I was lucky when the 2 online tutoring companies contacted me. It's small wages, but it helps out when the bills come.

  • @Emmalene In that case I apologize for being an ass lol,I thought my virtual thrashing was with cause,I misunderstood your intent greatly.I just have to look at this video a few more times to get it out of my head that you werent trying to be a "good two shoes" lol.Yea whatever it takes to pay those bills lol,I got my own place so I feel you on that toots. You wouldnt believe some of the shit I got to go through with to pay rent and tuition. All I have to say is that;If Muder was legal.......(lol)

  • @CODEColt45 Haha no worries. No apology needed, but thank you. Rent a bills are a definite pain in the butt, but definitely worth the trouble they cause. What are you in school for, if you don't mind my asking?

  • @CODEColt45 sorry sweetie Ive been really fucking busy with begginning of classes, but yea Im studying and majoring in Criminal Justice right now looking to get on with Homeland Security someday lol.I figure the way this economy is going into the shitter its probably best to be as close to the feds as possible.Thx for asking.

  • @CODEColt45 If you must know, I've actually received gainful employment from online websites asking me to teach conversational English to clients :)

As for the idea that I fret about things in my videos, you have obviously only watched a handful. Of course over 4 years online, a few are going to be me complaining about things. Including things that I now see I should have kept silent on. This, however, is a video I am still proud of.

  • I mean welcome to the world wide web.Lets face it,besides acces to pornograghy(lol),the primary reason for the explosion of the internet originally was anonymity, kind of like how Grand Theft Auto is popular for free roaming game play.People can post, chat, act and pretend to themselves or others all they want and that what makes it so fun and appealing.

  • The thing that astonishes me most about E-complainers like this chick is the act of pretending like one is somehow offended or affected by another's screen chatting and posting.Kind of reminiscent of the politically incorrect term "Internet Bullying".The way I see it if you are so sensitive to suggestive or misspelled screen wording that you have to make a video about it,express hurt feelings or kill yourself then you need to get the fuck off of the internet lol.

  • I saw my neighbour at the shopping centre, and he was telling me about how his favourite movie was "The Colour Purple." He told me how he saw it at the theatre when it came out, and how he had tried to buy it at a store where he saw it. He didn't have any cash on him and outraged to discover that they did not take cheques!

    How's that?

  • You seem well intentioned.. but why do you need to look down at your paper every time you want to explain what each word means or how to use it? Especially on 'allot'. It just seems like you want to correct other people but aren't quite a master of it yourself.

  • @TaylorAFowler Back in the day I would look down to the paper to keep me on track. I have pretty severe adult ADHD and often need to use cue cards when talking about something specific - it's the same for phone calls with my bank or insurance company or anything like that. It kind of sucks, but it keeps me from saying the random extra thoughts that pop into my head while speaking

  • And you are absolutley right, you can bitch and hard and as long as you like,as I mentioned before the internet is planet freedom, but what YOU should keep in mind is that acting like one will(as it clearly has for you)resort to being called and brought on as one.Im sure you've heard how if it walks and quacks like a fucking duck then its a........

  • (I mean lets face it if most of us could really get along with others in the real world we wouldnt be on here with the alarming fequency that we are lol, atleast Im honest about it).But honestly why post on youtube where you have to know your going to get nothing but negative deflection lol?Its like trying to throw a rock at a damn freight train, its useless.

  • If you look at the comments for 90% of the videos on youtube they are nothing but people flaming and acting like retards with one another, cause as I said, the internet is the ultimate playhouse/anonymity outlet.Things that people would otherwise get punched in the face, shot, stabbed, jumped, cussed out, smacked across the the face or otherwise violated for saying and doing to people is perfectly A-ok online(Again that GTA appeal lol.

  • SO in other words the Canadians spell things right, the way English people made it and Americans don't have a clue and make up random crap.

  • @tatiesjnr Haha pretty much. Canadians use British English rather than American English

  • I have a penis, you have a vagina?

  • While your grammar is fair better than the majority of nursery drop-outs on the Internet, your overwhelming smugness makes your lessons impossible to take seriously.

I mean, if you're going to gripe about grammar, spelling and punctuation, at least try to capitalise pronouns and avoid using ellipses in place of commas.

Your idea is noble, but your execution makes you sound incredibly uptight. This is coming from a "professional" writer.

  • This video is prejudice to the dyslexic.

  • @tommythecat not really. If someone were dyslexic, they would most likely make the same mistake each time and it would be easier to catch in a writing pattern.

  • u're hot, wana go out?

  • @Blackart3D no...and I don't think my husband would want me to go out with you either.

    Especially not with that grammar!

  • @Emmalene wat about me kicking yur husband's ass first?

  • @Blackart3D I don't think you could...and that definitely wouldn't be something that would win you brownie points. False bravado on the internet paired with, again, poor grammar is definitely not going to work.

  • @Emmalene lol im not using bad grammer, am i?

  • @Blackart3D I would say you are lol. Especially when you spell grammar "grammer' and using internet lingo.

You have very nice uses of commas and apostrophe's, however

  • @Emmalene lol i like to use internet lingo, make u seem tough :p

  • @Blackart3D hahaha Yes, because being too tough to finish words is a very threatening thing on the internet lol

  • @Emmalene I disagree, he/she forgot to put an apostrophe in I'm.

  • @uchihaitachi33023 haha I never noticed that. You'd think I would after complimenting him on it!

  • what a pretty teacher :), more lessons pls !!

  • You misspelled "neighbor"/"neighbour". Hah, I win.

  • @lasthope2 it's called Canadian spelling, my friend. I also spell it colour and favourite. It's part of the British English we use in Canada

  • Good at grammar, bad at detecting sarcasm. But it's cool..my sole intention was to get a response from a hot Canadian girl as yourself. Canadian chicks rock!

  • @pibada2 Hahaha I apologize if you were actually using sarcasm. Youtube and text on a web page are hard to decipher when it comes to the tones behind what is being "said"

  • Your wrong! Their are many Americans whom are very good at grammer and knows better then you! You Canadeans suck!

  • @pibada2 let me correct your spelling and grammar for you.

*You're* *There* *Who* *Grammar* *Than* *Canadians*

  • This is embarrassingly bad!

  • cool lesson.

  • You wasted seven minutes of your life. People like being ignorant and stupid nowadays.

  • @3seaw4dr amen preach the obvious please lol.

  • this is your description.

I've been complaining to myself about the bad grammar skills of people who post on forums, youtube, and msn. I've decided that grumbling to myself isn't going to do anything so I must teach people ...

you say people have bad grammar, when you do too. u wrote

I've been complaining to myself about the bad grammar skills of people who post on forums, youtube, and msn. there is no , after youtube and the word and.

  • that is a very ambiguous rule in English grammar. Most Industry leaders (if not all,) choose to add a comma for absolutely every item, in a list, despite being written after "and." You must be a story writer, because I know I skip those kinds of comma, to promote fast paced reading, in my pieces.

  • you're not a good teacher but you're pretty although

  • hi i think you're pretty

  • nice

  • weird on my english classes I don't know whats going on because all that stuff kinda comes to me naturally.......weird

  • wow um i went to grade school and paid attention there so i can spell lol Lmcoolao(Laughing my cool ass off) she gave a grammar lesson on you tube You snapped lmcoolao

  • So basically, you spell things the proper English way instead of the Ameracish way.

    Respect!

  • It's spelled as Theyr'e.

Good luck with the spelling, Nice grammer though.

  • actually, it's they're...

  • And it's "grammar"

  • Also, "nice" wouldn't be capitalized after a comma.

  • stomer8i0 you fail

  • No, it's not. It's "They're." Also, it's spelled "grammar."

  • And a comma should be placed after "grammer," which itself is incorrect.

  • Like...like,like,like.

Like, I have this written down, and it's like, in pen. There is like, many pages in my notebook.

(your english is atrocious. Are you accurately communicating, or just conveying some vague notion?)

    THERE'S many hamburgers at MacShites. I think I'll go have A Arby's.

Further, in amerika, the second month of the year is FEB YU ARY.

The second month of the year is pronounced FEB RU ARY.

  • you said, "asked to do an educational video by a couple people." that's passive voice...incorrect grammar.

  • yeah most theatre people spell it that way. same with centre.

  • ur so cute bebe .wanna kiss u pretty face

    and fuc u hard

    im ur student

  • hoo karz abot grame®¿ seriossly

  • dis vid sukz.

  • yoo suk hooo caers/ it intrnet) u sain eye talk wif u and r i m rong

  • Can I question something. You have boyfriend because you like me. I like your smile you're beautiful. I'm available. and thanks for the kiss. jajajajajajajaj. Ok thank you for your lesson bye

  • Teacher you're so jolly its study time and you're making fun here.

  • Please correct me, but i was under the impression that:

    Colour, Favourite and Theatre;

are proper English spelling, American language removes letters, rather than Canadian language adding them. Thanks

  • Your tutorials are great but I think you need to memorize the description of what you're trying to explain.

  • You are hot, baby !!! Can I pinch you in the cheeks sugar pie ? XOXOXO

  • its the fucking internet.

  • urr.. me english can not spoke. slow explain!

  • well i can't reeaad!!!! i'n write

  • just egnore those people who who called you names. they are just envy of you & u're pretty.

  • This is great:)

  • wow!!!! this is really boring!! i could less about spelling as long as i get the point across!!! :D joy to the world

  • its not so much canadian english as british english, american english is the main english that has different spellings in my opinion

  • YOU'R SEXY LOVE'S HONEY

  • YOU ARE HOT ! :)

  • I used to remember when I was at primary school, I found it pretty frustrating trying to get any assistance from the teacher in terms of getting any support with my writing due to the fact that I would do the homework give it to the teacher and he or she would correct it but when I ask where I am going wrong the teacher wouldn't give me the time of day. Not only that I have noticed that many international students can be quite judgemental to the native speakers who are studing the language.

  • In America they spell check as in Check but Canada British and Australian English they spell it as Cheque. Not only that many people often struggle with punctuation, (I know I do!) I find punctuation very frustrating. Can you please do a video strictly on punctuation? I really do hope so! I find that many teachers do not teach grammar at school they just hand out assignments and after the students do it they hand back for marking but unfortunately the teacher won't give detailed feedback!

  • how is punctuation hard: idiot.

  • please tell me that is a sarcastic comment, and not one where you believe that your punctuation is correct.

  • Its not wrong: you are just an idiot.

  • no need for name calling...but there is no question mark and a comma would be better suited for your sentences.

  • wat r u a teacher????? or our mothers

  • leek me ballz...... did i misedspelled zomthin?

  • I dont know where u live but in the US we use theatre Not theater.

  • I don't live in the US, which is why I said I use CANADIAN spelling.

  • Alrite sweeite. I am just tellin you here in the US we use theatre not theater. I never seen it like that. haha..

  • it's cause Canadians are crazy! Nah, we use the British spellings of things even though we are no longer a British nation

  • Actually, both 'theater' and 'theatre' are used interchangeably. American English sort of just throws everything in together; you can use European/Canadian English here and it can be considered correct (mainly with the exception of adding u's).

  • i always see it as theater :) sorry to burst your bubble :D

  • i like it, but am so much destructed with your bangs.

  • Why do her bangs destroy you?

  • id own you

  • Since you brought up grammar, I have noticed several times when you've used an adjective when you should have used an adverb.

  • I learned they're there allotting a lot of their grammatical knowledge! So make sure and check your cheque before you deposit it.

    Good video!

  • You should also know the difference between "your" and "you're".

    "Your" is possessive.

"You're" is a contraction of "you" and "are".

  • Thank you! I despise bad grammar and spelling. You are doing a great service!

  • you spelt neighbour wrong

  • Weird, I spell my words with U's as well. :) I'm in the US though.

  • Stop using apostrophes when you shouldn't. It's annoying.

  • That apostrophe was correctly used.

  • By some style books, it was. But I still hate it when people use an apostrophe just to make something plural.

  • nice vids. by the way your beautiful and hot. drol

  • You are very hopeful if you think you-tubers are going to be literate from now on.

Most of them can`t even walk upright.

  • at least you're hot

  • ROFL, do u really think u can enlighten the whole youtube with this? But ur kinda cute. :-D

  • I can't enlighten all of youtube...but I can at least be entertaining!

  • good ! =)

  • Nice video! xD *cheer*

  • i am learning this in school i find it broing from my english teacher but from u it keeps me awake i cant stay awake in class:P

  • zZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzz.....

  • It is not Canadian english you are talking about it is English english.

  • Canadian and English English are the same...we were once an English colony

  • Yeah right, you people do have the same spellings as the Brits. But do you share the same words e.g:- Lift, motorway, roundabouts and etc, and do you spell "pedophile" as "paedophile"?

  • we don't spell it as paedophile...and no, we do't use the word lift or motorway, but we do have a few roundabouts in Canada. We usually know what the british words mean, as sometimes some people use it...I often say loo instead of bathroom

  • Then you would be aware of the term "fags"

    as well innit?

  • yes, so I know that "lighting a fag" is not as cruel an act as it sounds

  • Well, here in the states; people don't know that. They would consider it as an obscene term.

  • This should be helpful to many people. I think correct grammar and spelling should be used all the time. Unfortunately since you've made this video, you have opened yourself up to those who love to jump at the opportunity to be critical. Kudos to you!

  • I don't mind people being critical. I never claimed to be perfect and I know my grammar isn't always correct...but the main issue is that I try to be correct. If I am incorrect I am open to fixing it. It's when people become so ignorant that they won't fix their mistakes that bothers me. But I'm not one to actually tell a person their grammar is incorrect. I merely use the proper grammar (when possible) and hope others pick up

  • I suspect that when people type for YouTube, they type much the way that language is spoken—fragmented thoughts/quick use of the Mental Dictionary (I may require the word "their", but because I was typing faster than my MD could retrieve the correct word, I accepted the first activated word, "there"). In fact, as you know, your speech resembled the way people write in YT posts.

  • My point:

The way language should be (prescriptive grammar) does not inhibit language from occurring the way it actually occurs (descriptive grammar) regardless of whether or not you know how language should be.

  • I was hoping to learn something from this, but this is really stupid. Goes to show just how dumbed down people are these days if they need to learn this!

Here's a quiz for you - which is correct... a) "I have three batteries and none of them work." or b) "I have three batteries and none of them works." ?

  • i personally believe US Americans and the states of Canada and Mexico are very nice places in asia that i cant find on a maps, to help people in THE Iraq and stuff i will stop this right now, btw wtf , i like your video SOutH Carolinians / Appalachian state graduates needz it

  • I'm hoping I am picking up on the intended joke in this comment, if not, well, I hope one day you'll stand corrected

  • ah, yes, i was kidding. but i personally can always use grammar help. so thank you!

  • So canadian spelling is like European spelling, heh u learn something every day!thx!

  • Forums, MSN, and YouTube? Does it even matter if people spell correctly on them? And have you noticed that most of the people that do post on instant messengers, forums, and places like YouTube are usually preteens and teenagers? Either they have poor grammar, or they just don't care. So, other than venting your feelings, what on earth is the purpose of this video?

  • to cure my boredom and to open topics of discussion...like how bad my grammar actually was when I made this video.

  • I'm not very good at spelling and I really don't like grammar that much. Thanks for helping us learn some grammar!! I happened to notice that neighbour was wrong when you spelled it out for us in the video. You said nighbour. Just thought it would be useful to correct that in your teaching video. I hope you have a good day! Thank-you again!!

    -r

  • yes, thatnks for telling me...I had it written properly on the paper, but I was nervous when I was reading it.

  • It was nice to see a video about grammar, but, all the same, I did find it quite funny when you said '...there was 200 dollars...' -- I don't think that mistake needs explaining. Also note that 'to allot' is both transitive and intransitive; and thus your definition is flawed somewhat.

  • i really like your hair. thanks for this video, one thing that really irks me the most is when people spell common words wrong.

  • You have been complaining about the POOR grammar skills...

  • You do know that when a letter of a word has been replaced with an apostrophe it's called an abbreviation, right?

  • I think you mean contraction....

  • Yes, as soon as I hit "Post Comment", I knew that i had made a mistake. That'll teach me to proofread in future.

  • How on Earth did you manage to get confused when spelling "they're?" I found that very funny. XD

  • It isn't her fault, at times even the simplest language problems can be quite tricky I mean often many writers would know how to write and construct perfect sentences but really half the time when one asks them what are the rules of the English grammar they often do not have a clue on how to answer that question. I mean standard English grammar (for many) is still quite a complex language and I think she did a very good job explaining her thoughts on the subject I still struggle with it myself.

  • Download the Grammar Girl podcast on itunes!

  • languages cant be fixed :D

  • fun video...but i've got a question for you: what is "n-i-g-h-b-o-u-r"? :)

  • It was a total blonde moment! I said I could spell, I never said I could speak lol

  • Part (2) of (2)

Canadian spellings are the same as English spellings, so unlike in America (U.S.) where they have their own variance on the English language Canada have stayed true to how things are said and most importantly spelt.

  • When you wrote "variance", perhaps you meant "variant", little Miss I Hate Bad Grammar?

Ignoring for the moment your lack of proper punctuation, I'd like to thank you for parenthetically clarifing that you referring to the "U.S." when you mentioned America; otherwise, people might have gotten the impression that you were talking about Mauritius or Kazakhstan.

  • Part (1) of (2)

Woah, you're just like me. I hate bad spelling and grammar, and I always find myself trying to correct people's bad spellings and where they don't know when to use a capital letter for a beginning of a sentence or for the use of an "I" and also for somebody's name.

I know my "their" "they're" and "there" but I think it's funny that not too many people do, I mean don't they get taught that as a child? Or maybe not?.

  • Judging by that run-on sentence in your first paragraph, you don't seem to "hate" bad grammar very much.

    "don't they get taught"

    LOL

One more thing, is there some reason you added a period after the question mark in that last sentence fragment?

  • hi Emma, Can you please make more videos of this sort? This is really helpful.

    Take Care

  • Cool video. I'm sick of bad grammar, too. haha I've notice the there, their, and they're too! I didn't think it was such a hard thing to grasp when I was in school...

  • how are differences between English and American English your pet peeves?

    1. "gonnna" is not a word.

    2. "uh" is not correct grammar nor is it a word

    3. "like" is not the same as "is"

    4. "kinda" should be "kind of" or "rather"

    5. B@@M H3$DSh@T

  • Right on.

Have you ever noticed that people who can't get through an entire sentence without stuttering and stammering things such as "uh" and "like" are the first to correct the grammar of others?

It's an old cliché, but it's still applicable after all these years:

You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

  • While I never claimed to have perfect grammar, perhaps I should have mentioned it was spelling. I do not correct other people. I try to correct my own as much as I can. The main issue I have is laziness with spelling online or simple word confusions that are used often by the same person afte seeing many people typing it correctly.

  • get a life ...

  • Haha. I do not bother with using correct grammar for forums or comments on videos ect, however should I be typing business related things (reports, emails to clients) then it is time for me to get off my lazy ass and use correct grammar so I don't look like a idiot.

  • What a turgid and humourless video! You clearly have too much time on your hands, dear.
