  • All these names jessontherun throws out are people Bob Buckner is friends with and has worked with or hired with those benjamins! And your Drum Corp history knowledge is lacking as well! Bob has been a drill designer for Crown and was on visual staff with Spirit in the late 70s and early 80s. Maybe the glare from your rings is blinding you. Bob also won the BOA national championship in 1979 with Slyva-Webster High School band with Float as his percussion instructor. Guess it was the benjamins

  • @clarinetbandgeek3 don't worry. I could also say I invented the internet. As for now he's a faceless troll, devoid of any proof of accomplishments. He's not even a real troll, he's just an attention whore. Or she. Jess probably never fit in with the rest of the other more popular trolls, so I guess that's why he's stuck degrading musical ensembles as much as he can.

  • My bro goes to Western Carolina.. Chris Caldwell, their drum major from like 2003-2007 is my Band Director (:

  • RCC and WCU have totally different styles. I think RCC's marching and precision is much better, but I don't know anyone who thinks that RCC is more ENTERTAINING than WCU, and that's what college bands are for: enetertaining the crowd at halftime (since they don't compete.)

By the way, WCU won the 2009 Sudler Trophy. They also performed alongside RCC at the 2008 BoA Grand Nationals. I guess BoA chose to invite WCU because they suck so bad, with "some hick in the hills" as their director, huh?

  • I was in this performance! :)

  • My nephew was also in this performance and he is supposed to start as drummer with Taylor Swift in February on her tour. WCU Band Rocks and are the best!!!!

  • i personally think that JessOnTheRun needs to shut his fuckin mouth before sombody beats those dci rings out of him

    who agrees

  • We do have a great band over here at WCU - my neighbor was in that performance :)

  • Dont let this guy ruffle your feathers. He's a fruad. Numerous times hes claims to have been a former member of the Blue Devils and Cadets. and said he staffed at Star of Indiana. So you staffed at Cavaliers too now Jess? Im still suprised how none of us know who you are. Anyway he owns numerous accounts (in attempt to back up his claims) and was recently found out but wont admit to it even though it was in plain sight. Pay him no mind as he is simply trying to satisfy his perverted pleasures.

  • Haha, it seems like that guy just lives to troll. I've seen his comments on so many videos, and he always leads his arguments with those ridiculous claims, yet absolutely no proof to back up his claims. I'd like to think someone who really has staffed so many high quality drum corps would have more class than that. I highly doubt they would be on youtube talking shit. If Jess really is all he says to be, then it's sad that someone of such poor character has such a high position in life.

  • Unfortunately even what we discuss now is just what he/she/dumbass wants because its in someway about him/her/cocksucker. Its a perpetual machine of flame and hate. But absolutely no-one has any legitimate biographical credit to who they are on the internet. The same thing can be said for any thing we may say seeing as it is just a click away from "this is who I am and what I know."

  • I've got an idea, Let's have a fight over youtube on how to type perfectly and use the biggest words we can to sound smart.

btw, Jazzman is right about that stuff

  • I uploaded the full show from Tournament of Champions. Im not happy with the quality so I'll be re-uploading it once I get around to ripping a better version.

    video.google.(dotcom)/videoplay?docid=-1039406751104921668&q=wcu+marching+band&total=39&start=0&num=10&so=1&type=search&plindex=0

  • make sure you fill in (dotcom) with com on the link above...youtube wouldnt let me post a link

  • I've got an idea. Lets all see who can be the most pompus, concieted, ass and flaunt "championship rings" and tell everyone else how much they suck. I'm a trumpet player at WCU, and what you (JessOnTheRun) are saying is down right offensive. How dare you insult a program as hard working as ours. Telling college musicians how much they suck at what they love sounds like a great way to spend a day on youtube. Please do yourself a favor and turn your massive ego, and your petty quips down a bit.

  • That's a more valid comment than anything anybody has said here, thanks. You might want to post it in reply to one of "Jessontherun"s comments to call his attention to it. I can't stand elitists...

  • where did they get 2nd in the nation? there are no university marching band nationals and certainly this pathetic performance would make it that high. jeesh, you need to check out RCC...they ARE the best, due to having the blue devils' staff. you guys are not even close. LMAO

  • yeah I'd be jealous if I were you to

  • What a presumptuous moron. What's to be jealous of? Being a band geek at a 3rd rate University? LMAO. When you get two DCI championship rings and high drum trophies, one as a member, another as staff, let me know, kid. LOL, you are the weakest link: buh bye.

  • Perhaps it is you who is the "presumptuous moron", with all the gloating you do of your "rings" in basically every comment you post on Youtube.

As far as I've looked, this is one of the few schools throughout the nation that has as big a band as this one WITH a pit. Not only that, it sounds very decent, unlike some other "big time universities" that get TV time.

  • No doubt RCC is good; they're almost mainstream. However, are you trying to say that other colleges/universities that don't have division 1 drum corps staff suck? I think this video begs to differ.

  • uh,this video proves nothing...sorry, who the hell is some hillbillies in cullowhee compared to wayne downey, david glyde and scott johnson? those guys invented the medium, dumbass...they were winning championships when you were in the sandbox. they still are and you are definitely are in a sand box. dont insult rcc by mentioning you in the same sentence.

  • I'd like to think that marching bands were around BEFORE Wayne Downey "invented" them, but you'd tell me I'm ignorant for not speaking highly of him.

How did I insult RCC? For saying they are GOOD? Please, read the entire paragraph in its context and then construct a cohesive, comprehensive sentence before spewing the diarrhea that comes from your fingers.

  • I'll give you this kid, the best thing about WCU's entire music department is Dr. Mario Gaetano. This guy is well known in percussion literature and marimba methods, he is also stages a kick ass jazz band. marching though? uh, you are non existent.

  • FYI: I'm not in the WCU marching band. I don't even go to the darn school. That said...

Obviously there is a marching band at WCU, otherwise this video wouldn't exist. The fact that fewer people know about them than, say, the Fighting Illini or the Spartan Marching band does not and should NOT discount them from being good. They just get less exposure than those others that get the TV time.

  • You obviously don't know anything about our school! Mario Gaetano is nothing compared to some of our other music staff.

  • Oh, and by the way this video does no justice for us. We are a lot better and louder in person. Point proven when we played with RCC in Indy a couple years back at BOA Finals. That's why we kicked their butts in the middle of the Plaza Dome during the "Battle of the Bands" thingy.

  • And as far as them being taught by the BD staff...for one, I've met the BDs, we hosted them at my HS several times. For two, we have Corps staff on our Marching Staff as well. We've got the Cavies and Cadets helping us, as well as a couple others. And I wasn't saying that it was my personal opinion that we kicked their butts in the plaza dome, it was the audience that said it. Sorry, we got more applause and more crowd reaction. It's just the nature of our shows.

  • Oh, and by the way...if you hate Western so much...why the hell are you watching our videos anyway? You're one person that doesn't like us and thinks RCCs better than everyone else that have watched our videos. Hell, just look at the comments, buddy. Perhaps, you should go watch your RCC videos, and leave us the hell alone. Get a life instead of just harrassing people on Youtube.

  • jessontherun is crotonian and mickbelcker haha!

  • i agree!! you guys are waaaay more amazing and waaay louder in person. when you guys did you show at the band beat in charlotte and you started wit walk it out i was in love lol

  • you are an idiot and it seems I know more about Dr. Gaetano than you, as I have professionally known him when you were still playing with your little peter in the sand box, kid. he is a well respected composer, clinician and musician INTERNATIONALLY.

  • For one, I'm not a guy. For two,I didn't say he wasn't good....but I said we had other music staff that are better and that you know nothing about our school. We have four staff on board that have travelled the world, including playing Carnegie Hall. Our marching band has been runner up for the Sudler Trophy for the past two years. Obviously, that's got to say something about the rest of the staff on our music department!

  • Spend a day on youtube?...this fuckrag has spent a year or so on youtube trying to build up his ego by putting down ppl...1 simple word for trash like that LOSER!!!!!

  • Jess is making pop songs for some german music company. He has no idea what is jazz, electronic or classical music... All what is he doing is recording some jingles for ringtones or some cheesy tune for another pop signing sucking blondies.

Come on Jess tell us what are your masterpieces?? come on tell us what r u doing on real life! ;>

  • @JessOnTheRun I'm sure if BD knew you were bashing collegiate marching bands and branding the Blue Devils name to you they would have something to say. This was three years ago, hopefully you've found a life since then..fucking troll

  • RCC is a great band, yeah. Most will agree that our (WCU's) shows are more entertaining to the general public and band lovers alike. Plus, everyone in our band is a full time student.

Oh and you're right, our staff blows, because Bob Buckner doesn't know shit about marching band, right?

    Wiki it, jackass.

  • Who? that might mean something in the hick hillbilly hills of north carolina, but he aint shit. his arrangements were always non creative and simple...try someone like jim prime, richard saucedo, key poulan, wayne downey, google those you amateur newbie. get lost you geek. Btw, have fun as a spectator watching DCI, thanks for purchasing the tix. LMFAO

  • lol yeah, all those hillbillies they induct into the BOA hall of fame. Buckner isn't an arranger, so that was a stupid comment. He's known for knowing how to run a band and for his drill...probably why he gets paid the big bucks as a consultant for Pyware? Could be.

  • Key Poulan? Are you kidding me? He pumps out a lot of shit, I can tell you that- I've played and seen others perform a lot of his arrangements...couldn't tell you what they were called though since all his stuff sounds exactly the same: band in a box.

in regards to dci? wave to me from the stands next summer. i'll be on the field in the cream and purple (now gold, i suppose). kthxbye.

  • Ill wave to you from the tunnel with the "DCI EVENT STAFF PASS"...perhaps you will see the glare of the two championship rings and 4 drum titles.

  • I dont think I would ever compare Bob Buckner, some overweight, never been out of his NC trailer to people like Jay Bocook, Wayne Downey, Key Poulan, Richard Saucedo, Bob Cotter, Robert W Smith just to name a few...all those people are world reknown...buckner is some hick in the hills.

  • You are so unbelievably ignorant, but I guess I'll let it slide. I don't claim that Bob is as big of a deal as a few of the names you keep throwing around, but keep in mind that he was on staff with Crown and Spirit years ago. He's an old guy now, so of course he isn't as involved. Still, he must be an incredibly connected hick to have Cadets staff and major indoor guard folks on our visual staff this year.

    Just saying.

  • learn the definition of words prior to using.or maybe you arent a native english speaker. uh, connections? yeh, its called benjamin franklins.you hire staff and pay enough cash, that is your connection.bob buckner never had anything to do with crown.and he never arranged or taugh brass at spirit. where do you get your info? i doubt you even know any of the names i mentioned.here's another michael klesch or jim prime.some that have also been responsible for shaping marching idiom as you know it

  • your stupidity continues to amaze me. Google Bob Buckner. The first result is his BOA Hall of Fame Bio. Some quote from it:

"Bob's fingerprints are all over Bands of America," says Scott McCormick, BOA President and CEO. "His contributions to the organization span four different decades."

  • BOA? LMFAO

  • Hm, yeah BOA does nothing to "shape the marching idiom as we know it" as you said. Tarpin Springs, Broken Arrow, Kennesaw Mountian- those marching bands suck, huh? /LMAO!/

I sincerely hope for the sake of RCC and BD that you are only a fan, because you seriously disgrace both fine organizations if you have actually been a part of them.

  • keep your inexperienced and judgemental assumptions to yourself, as you can not comment expertly on either criteria. and no, BOA has helped "legitimized" the marching band vs the public shcool, however, those that helped innovate and legitimized the entire marching idiom, did so in corps. there wouldnt even be concert percussion equipment on sidelines, intricate drill/arrangements and marching toms/basses if it werent for those willing to take a risk in the corps' world.

  • I'll give you that most marching innovations were shaped by corps, but you can't deny that it hasn't worked the other way as well. Amplification, for one thing. Let's just say the last three years of The Cadets while we are at it.

That's not to say that I approve of these "innovations" but it does prove that it works both ways.

  • amplification has always been on the minds of corps, fred sanford with SCV back in the 70's was always trying to push amps and power packs for vibes, etc. he, along with others, even push for woodwinds in dci...in all honesty, woodwinds do not have the impact of brass, but definitely have the warmth and tone quality that would be a contribution rather than an inhibition..although the size limitation would have to be increased.

  • Btw: "Hm, yeah BOA does nothing to "shape the marching idiom as we know it" as you said" is a lie...i never said that. Get your facts straight...and no I have had nothing nor have anything to do with RCC.

  • No lie, I quoted it very carefully. I only quoted you saying "shape the marching idiom as we know it" but not applying to BOA. I left it ambiguous, so it could be interpreted either way. Sneaky? Yes. It's still properly quoted.

  • you misquoted...not even paraphrasing:FACT! key word "interpreted". if you worked for a publicated paper/magazine/tv, etc. you would have been cited for malice.

  • "Bob served on the Bands of America Advisory Board for several terms, and was instrumental in the development of Grand Nationals' Prelims, Semi-Finals, Finals format and the the early discussions that launched the National Concert Band Festival."

"Bob's professional service includes... service to Bands of America as both a Board of Advisors and Adjudication Committee member"

  • "He has served on the staff of the "Spirit of Atlanta" Drum and Bugle Corps and in 1993 was the drill designer for the DCI Division II National Champion "Carolina Crown."

"In addition Bob wrote field shows for over twenty years for the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps. He has also served as a special consultant to the Walt Disney Company, where he started their popular "Future Corps" program and served on the Board of Advisors for "Magic Music Days."

  • both magic music days and future corps were 86'd prior to 2000. Spirit's drill designers, back in the day, were sal salas who put them on the map and choreographer Scott Chandler also had a lot to do with drill with spirit..he has been with dev's since 1990...but then again, he must be a washed up hasbeen, right?

  • So the article is lying then? Must be some kind of crazy conspiracy! BOA must be on my side.

  • I really don't know where you get this idea that Buckner has anything to do with arranging brass, because I've said a couple times he doesn't do that. For the record I know those names but they are irrelevant to this conversation. We are a college marching band, not a corps. Maybe RCC is nearly a corps since it's full of washed up Blue Devils who can't let go, but I don't need to say anything about RCC. You've embarrassed them enough all by yourself.

  • Wayne Downey, Van Matthews, Scott Johnson, David Glyde, etc. etc. arent washed up Blue Devil staff that cant let go, they are the premier staff that has been involved with the activity sinc before you were born and are internationally recognised marching innovators and clinicians..oh yeh, the just racked up yet another championship, taking top honors in brass, percussion, guard. good job moron. do your homework.

  • I was speaking of the former BD's who march in RCC, not Blue Devils' staff. They are obviously top notch. Scott Johnson did a clinic at WCU last year and it was awesome.

Also, BD got 3rd place guard (Crown 2nd, Cavies 1st- oops! Better do YOUR homework!)

  • ScoJo is good guy, he was one of my instructors some years back at Dev's. BD took visual-music-GE. Brass, Perc. not guard, granted.

  • I love this Show. Unfortunately this is a short video, I should have a fuller version soon. either way it's Fu*#ing awsome!!!!

  • That's right...we rock... :D

  • I used to be a student at Cullowhee, it brings back good memories, now i am in europe

  • Yes this was an awesome show go Wcu the jug game is going to be awesome

  • I've seen this show several times in person....and I can vouche for the fact that it is absolutely BITCHIN'! :) However....it would be nice if someone could post a better quality (FULL) version of this....pretty please ;)
