I use to know a man from Matane.Hillaire Journeau was his name.He was working at the time for my father's uncle at Verreault navigation and started a ship business on his own afterwards.
Having worked on the Terry Fox I can tell you that the vessel was built for Arctic oil exploration.
The vessel actually at the end of the summer / fall season, the vessels systems would be winterized in the ice up North and left in the ice all winter in the Arctic. More or less turn off the lights and heat, lock the doors and leave her unattended until the Spring. In the Spring the Engineer's would arrive and get all of the ships systems up and running.
The blue hulled ship is the NM Camille Marcoux which is perfectly designed for the area where it operates. The white ship is the CTMA Vacancier which is a large passenger ferry that operates between montreal and Iles de la Madeleine but in winter time it goes to Matane instead of montreal. The red one is the CCGS Terry Fox which is used as an icebreaker but was designed at the origin as a offshore supply boat. The Terry Fox is not an appropriate escort icebreaker.
This global warming is killing us, does Al Gore have a 1-800 number where we can call for his help, or should we just flash a light in the sky, maybe in the shape of a giant donut?
someone has to go behind it and give it a push haha

I love working on the St Lawerence - in the summer!
Winter on the St. Lawerence can be brutal; especially up by Sept-Isles.

Shame on the St. Lawrence river for freezing in such a sold way. It just doesn't know how to cooperate with the global warming types.

does that mean that the engines froze? How can the ice be so strong to keep the ship from going anywhere? can an expert please reply?
melmothd 2 years ago
the ice is that thick that it stops the ship moving.
