That is NOT open field coursing....The "wolf" barely had a head start and was not even in it's own territory. NOT at all "sporting". I've hunted rabbits with Borzoi and we always gave the rabbits a head start and they were on home territory and knew all the tricks and hiding places. That was what I'd call a "canned hunt". Not sporting and not at all how the Czars did it. I was appalled at this video and I do hunt on occasion with Birds of Prey and dogs.

Those dogs could have been trained with a lure. That wolf wasn't large enough or wild enough to be a real threat to livestock or people. And just because the czars used to do this doesn't make it an acceptable practice in modern times.

One dog can't take on a whole pack. :)

The average Borzoi is larger than the wolves it was bred to course. One of them could easily take down a wolf. The borzois, as most large sighthounds do, use hamstringing to take down large prey. This involves using their teeth to sever the hamstrings of the quarry as it runs from them.
Uhh really? A leash on the wolf? Not cool. I don't endorse/approve of dog fighting but at least none of the dogs involved are hindered by a leash.

This is not a "Cub". It is a full grown adult wolf, that has done this many times. The wolf is NOT Killed,NOT mauled, NOT hurt. The videos unfortunately let the viewer make thier own ending....so...shame on you for assuming the worst. Try looking in your own neighborhood with the nieghbors Shepard, or Beagle killing your cat,or running after the Jogger,Bicyclist,or kids unmonitored... by the lacidasical owner, drinking coffee in the house...Don't jump to conclusions..............

Read my comments on the other clips. Do not jump to conclusions. I love Wolves, they are beautiful. These events are closely monitored. The Wolf/Wolves are NOT killed,NOT injured. The wolves are cared for and they are "tethered" so that the dogs will stop and circle when the Wolf stops. If the Wolf were loose the dogs would probably kill it as they would any running animal. ALL DOGS have the potential to kill if they see something running. ALL DOGS... including your Lab,Golden,Shepard, Beagle.

The average Borzoi is larger than the wolves it was bred to course. One of them could easily take down a wolf. The borzois, as most large sighthounds do, use hamstringing to take down large prey. This involves using their teeth to sever the hamstrings of the quarry as it runs from them.
