  • no melody?

  • The bass player is from Kepler-22b...

  • OMG...this soprano solo is so good. I didn't know those sounds existed. he's amazing! What's his name?

  • Wow. Fantastic. Thx for posting...

  • 7:42 DUDE :D lol

  • the sax solo was a little out there, but all in all i thought it was pretty nice

  • Sick... Whats that bassplayers name again? He´s an instructor at Berklee, right?

  • PARLIAMENT!

  • Comment removed

  • @ensoph89 Yes, he's a professor at berklee. He also created and teaches an on line slap bass course for berklee.

  • dude, that sop solo was SO sick! straight from the heart

  • I love everything about this joint, even the sax speaks to more than just my ears.

  • for those of you that did not like the sax solo, you are closed minded, the solo was great!

  • Hargrove is a fucking soul, RnB, Hip-hop and funk god !

  • george clinton would be proud:)

  • Well funky!

  • That is one hot bass and skat line!

  • thass the fonk!

  • The colors in the sax solo were pretty dope. I dig it. He kept groove while creating tension.

  • Oooooh yeeeeaahhh... that's my private instructor... i am not worthy....

....I want to know who the hell gave this video a thumbs down rating....... probably somebody who was pissed off because they couldn't groove like this.

  • this version lacks the most important thing 'bout that tune imo:

    Common's freestyle...

  • let me hear that bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • pocket is fat as hell.

  • very good song

  • I don't know who's talking about the sax, but um, in that soprano solo, what he's doing is approaching harmonics your average player wouldn't - albeit, he sort of flutters around it, and yes, it might not groove (not saying it does, either, myself) but still, there's room in jazz still for experimentation - what you expect, always to hear some Bird-influenced licks or something? I think Trane woulda gave the man an ear at least.

  • jazz is now dead

  • jazz is not dead, don't talk about what you don't know!!!

    jazz is evoluating!!!

  • jazz is not dead, jazz is evoluating!!

Don't talk about what you don't know

  • Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah ça malade!!!VIVE LE JAZZ VIVE LA SOULMUSIC!!

  • who's the dude on soprano? that dude is blazin. his tone OMG sick

  • Fucking amazing!!!

  • That bass is SICK!!! I am in love with this video. These are some talented musicians, you'd be crazy to say theyre not!!!

  • this is so great!

  • Gotttta Love Fbasses

  • The sax solo is crazy. If you listen to it enough it brings a whole new element to the song. It intruduces another path the song could go. Good job!

  • @haveatomato You gotta be crazy saying some mess like that! Are you kidding me?!! Roy Hargrove is one of the most versatile trumpeters out there. He'll burn it up on bebop, cool it down with cool jazz and mix it up with a little funk. I have an album of Oscar Peterson's where Roy's the trumpeter in the group, and he held his own. Give the man his credit, not only is he a good trumpeter, but he's a damn good musician!

  • woooooooooooo!!!! hell yea!

  • any jazz musician should appreciate that crazy soprano solo man.. just killin

  • I liked the soprano bit - nicely expressive, understated.

Maybe a bit evocative of late Miles... definitely Asian.

    Something different.

  • I don't know. I've replayed it a few times and I really can't be sure whether to take it seriously! I've just gotta assume he meant to play it like that. I don't think it quite works though.. At least not how Miles' thing did. I hear what you're saying though.

  • @benway813 Not only was it Different for a sax solo in terms of sound and approach (asian*). The simplicity Killed me. Miles would of been proud.!

    This cat is badd.!

  • I think the soprano was aiming at an indian influenced sound. The shaking produced that vibrato that maybe couldn't be achieved any other way?

  • Who's the bassist?

  • Lenny Stallworth

  • You all are narrow minded. You have all what a stereo-typical sax solo is supposed to sound like. He is bringing a new sound. Trying out different things, exploring the sax.

  • @niggazrunnin Amen bro!

  • tottaly funkin' right !!!

  • @niggazrunnin INDEED..!

  • @niggazrunnin we need more people like you. (and me). Music is music.

  • @niggazrunnin It narrow-minded to say that a supposed "you all" is. Don't do that.

  • This sax solo is so weird.

  • Agreed

  • WTF is with the soprano guy?... dam... crappy solo

  • what a hot rhythm section

  • wtf up with soprano sax dude. was that a cracked out moment or was he reeeeaaallllllly nervous

  • Who is on bass?!?

  • it kind of looks like christian mcbride but i could be wrong

  • Lenny Stallworth.

  • Jowee sounded shaky on that one

  • agreed

  • that funky ass bass XD

  • funy

  • Wasn't Common in this song in the Hardgroove album? So why isn't he here? I mean I thought it was called Common Freestyle because Common was FREESTYLIN in that song.

  • Obviously Common can't TOUR with the RH Factor everywhere they go just because he recorded one track with Roy. That's just not going to happen.

Just like how Roy doesn't tour with John Mayer

  • True. Btw anybody know like actual jazz groups like this but with a actual rapper who is part of the band?

  • the roots is the closest you are going to get

  • Buckshot Lefonque (Branford Marsalis, DJ Premier, plus a rotating group of instumentalists) had a rapper named 50 as their lead MC in 1994-97. The Roots during this time were heavily jazz-influenced, having Black Thought and Malik B as their MCs.

  • Dapp THeory !!

  • Dapp Theory!

  • Check out dapp theory.

  • @pong224 The Roots!

  • @pong224 the roots, othello and the hipnotics, jazz hole, crown city rockers, dakah hip hop orchestra, stetsasonic....there are actually a lot of great compilations of live bands featuring rappers as well.

  • @gliza My homie plays for Dakah! THEY'RE THE SHIT.

  • @pong224 haha-hell yeah they're the shit. well, tell you homie to go to my youtube channel, check all my songs and PUT ME ON!!!!!!!!!!!

  • damn what happened at the end? even Renee was looking like "WTF?!!"

    lol

  • I think that Jowee (the soprano guy) was on something that day!!!!! Not acceptable Jowee!!!

  • Maybe he doesn't shine on that video, but trust me, that's Jowee Omicil, that dude can play !

  • Damn that bass is super nasty. I like the P-Funk interlude too.

  • I feel bad for the soprano man.

  • holly cows.....this has waken me up...

  • he's just cryin.

  • that soprano guy sucked...for real. i was expecting more since he was playin with Roy Hargrove....but oh well....they should've had keith anderson on this vid

  • do you think he's shaking becaus he is excited ?

  • ???? Jowee sounded different as usual. History in the making.

  • omfgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • agree with you man..!

  • Wow! Lenny is just groovin on the bass...

    It is just amazing....

    Thanks for posting!
