  • I know I should know but the guy at the end who gets on stage ( in the shades) looks really familiar. Who is he ? Saw them play City Hall Cork city, St Stephens night 1980. I've been to see hundreds of bands since and nothing comes close to that gig.

  • There will never ever be another like Ian Dury - a genius!!...and with the blockheads an awesome combination that will always stand the test of time.

  • How come this track sounds so much better live. I have to dought the studio production.

  • Is the drummer actually watching Norman Watt-Roy for his timing?

  • Is that Dylan Howe on drums?

  • Lovely Video....Gr8 song..Fantastic musician !! Cheers, Ian ............

  • Those were the days........

    Thank you Ian!

  • I SO regret never catching him live... thanks for the post !

  • Best bass line ever.

  • Absolutely brilliant !!!!

  • Any chance you could post me a copy of the whole ronnies concert?

  • This is the best song every made!!!

  • 2 fat persons...click, click, click!

  • What a front man. What a band. A dream. No equal.

  • Great Bass player! Canvey Island produced some killer players

  • Hes from Canvey?!!!!!!

  • I think Norman was a Canveyite

  • Muchísimas gracias haroldturkeypants por subir este video. Es fantástico, super super.

  • the mutts nuts!!!

  • i used to see ian when his band was Kilburn and the High Roads in the early/mid 70s at the Nashville in West Kensington. The gigs were amazing and FREEEE!! It used to be Kilburn and the High Roads one night, then the Tourists the next night (now annie lennox and whassisname)

  • Really glad you came!

  • Oh, from 4:10 to 4:50 I really felt the climax go through me! Thanks for uplaoding man, this has to be one of the best bands I have ever seen.

  • Oy! My band, "Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band", did a 40 date tour in '79, opening for the Blockheads. It was FANTASTIC!!! They were one of the best sounding, most polished, live bands ever. As much as I LOVE their records, I loved them LIVE, even more! They were ALL great mates, too!!! R.I.P. Ian and Root Boy. Ernie Lancaster

  • Wow, Ernie I hope you're doing well. Seen you too many times to count. Root and the band have been over to my house after hours a time or two in Raleigh. I can't recall much about it except for Ron going through my records for hours and Root, well being in character. I'd love to see more of Root on film, is there enough footage to put together a documentary? Thanks a dedicated Root and Ernie FAN! I still listen to it often, paricularly WWIII.

  • Thanks! I'm still keepin'on keepin' on. A DVD is in the works, but it'll be a while. Check out the RBS site and mine, too! We're tryin' to keep the groove alive...like the Blockheads. Damn, I LOVE those guys!!! Best wishes, Ernie

  • I was lucky enough to see a couple of dates on that tour :-) Loved Root Boy ever since. I still have Zoom in my record collection. Hope you can still boogie till you puke!

  • You know your shit!

  • That bassline. Pumping 16th notes like nobody's business. This is great, timeless music.

  • RIP Ian. What a legend

  • heavy !!! r i p ian u spastic autisticus

  • Never saw a band live that seemed to enjoy

themselves so much on stage. It really came across. Must be the most underrated live band

  • Can someone advise is this Ian speaking? when was this interview recorded ? thanks

  • I agree about the bassline. That bass player has incredible feel & groove. Outstanding!!

  • See Jaco Pastorius' 'Come On Come Over' for the inspiration/rip-off source!

  • Yep, Norman is an outstanding bassist. A fantastic 16 note-to-the-bar bassline.

  • My mom tells me that 29 years ago, when she was pregnant with me, this was my Dad's favorite song.. :)

  • It simply just doesn't get much better than this - believe me - I'm 66 years old and seen a lot of stuff. This is one tight band. Sorry you left us Ian.

  • Fucking amazing musicianship and absolutely the best and funkiest bass line of any pop song ever.

  • Unfortunately we didn't get to experience very much from Ian here in the US of A. I'm thankful for having heard some of this material. Great post.

  • RIP Ian Dury Dude. You were and still are the man.Bless you

  • These are all great posts. This one in particular is quintessential Blockheads.

  • Outstanding bassline - good stuff!

  • The man was a genius!

  • I could never figure out why people thought they were punk/new wave. To me they were always just a great band, very talented musos playing tight sets of catchy, danceble, toe tapping songs with great riffs and cheeky lyrics.

  • Dylan Howe is playing drums, the son on Steve Howe of Yes.

Who is that guy who comes out at the end?

  • that guy is the legend that is del(derick) the draw. a long time friend to Ian

  • classiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic!

R.I.P Ian. The alternative poet laurete.

  • Ian was a legend, real big here in oz. Sorely missed RIP mate!

PS Isn't Norman a hot bassist!

  • Was that Jeff "Skunk" Baxter - Steely Dan lead guitarist - coming in to shout out at the end?

  • Das ist gut say fantastic!!He was the Man!Think he's singing this to some sweet angels in heaven:Hit me!

  • nice one turkeypants its good to know i was born 1971 so this was my child hoodstuff i didnt know he had so much more material he was a real cuuting edge artist, i listen to rap and hip hop i wonder if ian drury cited any early rap on his style of delivering lyrics?i would have liked to ask him, both styles were born in that era..nice one love the videos

  • love this some funky shit, ian drury was an originator true master listen to his style from the albums it got ripped off by madness , i do like madness but they copied his style...hit me hit me

  • Madness are vitually proteges of Ian and they often cite him as a major influence on there style and sound,I think it was all done with love.
