i beg to differ. he got a lot of people to rise up against the system. he also received an environmental award for his involvement with the effort to save the st. lawrence river from polluters. i should add, that the award came while he was in hiding, and living under the name Barry Freed. i'd say that he was pretty accomplished.

He wanted that America to become a reality with all his heart, and he fought like hell for it, for the sake of everyone living here. Whether you agree with him or not, Abbie understood how to play the media. He openly admitted that some of the things he did was to get publicity... for a guy with little financial resources, he drew attention to an issue he strongly believed in. He was actually quite brilliant, perhaps not as committed as Rubin (or was a true capitalist), or Hayden, who thought he was a social savior. Abbie was a jester of the times who did what he did with a devious smile.
