  • Except when she tried to sing with a cold! I met her a number of times and had talks with her. She had a beautiful oil painting I did of her - hanging in her studio. She loved it!

  • Visually she was stunning, and looked the part. Vocally - sshe had her good days and bad days, as most singers do. But always was she a diva. I have seen Anna perform this role many times, and she never disappointed me.

  • Magnifique interprepation of Sempre libera from La Traviata !! unmatched?

Beautiful voice, charming stage presence and very secure technique.

    Brava, ! A wonderful .. indeed!

Brava cualidad unica .A force of nature! Magnificent! ORIGINAL AND UNIQUE.Absolutely pleasant,

    a delight to my ears.

  • I want to be Anna Moffo when I grow up!

  • rare is the soprano who attempts the Eb. Bravo Anna!!

  • I'm one of those rare people who enjoy both Tebaldi and Callas, and recognize that neither are perfect.

However, I am more and more enjoying listening to Anna Moffo. What she may lack in interpretation at times she makes up for in sheer beauty (and I'm strictly talking about her voice).

  • she is georgeus,beautiful voice,amazing coloratura,this is coloratura.

  • @Bossmanrocks Each to their own: personally I'd say that Anna Moffo was a wonderful singer....

  • @Bossmanrocks

    You have no knowledge too.

  • I usually think of lady opera stars as shrill but she isn't too bad!

  • Why is she hurrying?

  • Lovely setting, and costumes...

  • We live in an era when we have become used to singers being cast because of their looks rather than vocal talent and half-trained voices that have never been on stage are touted as great opera stars! Anna Moffo was no trivial cross-over artiste. Her physical beauty could distract one from the quality of that voice and technique. The girl could nail it, on stage, in concert - not made in a recording studio. Gorgeous looks, glorious voice and great presence. Thank U

  • Mi piacerebbe sapere CHI E',quel GENIO CHE FA' DELLE TRADUZIONI COSI' stupide.SUCCEDE PER TUTTE LE LINGUE?Soltanto per la mia?Questo e' PRESSAPOCHISMO.non proffessionalita'.Cosa significa La Moffo!Fare la cosa e calci in culo it!Bella!Non ha nessun senso.

  • Verrry gorgeous, but overall, Maria is best. That is, because Maria was not

merely a sparkling opera singer, but expressedly, a genious.

  • @Ellevius

    'sparkling' ... a genious'???

    ARE YOU SICK??

Callas was only a singing actress. She caws like a monkey and sounds like a bagpipe. Her voice was shallow, boring, sluggish, colorless, without emotions and couldn't strike the high notes. Callas sounds like a musical clock from the 20s and cannot hold the candle to Anna Moffo.

It's time for you to go at Callas sites ... you dirty sow!!

  • and she avoids singin high C's in anything more than a fluffy head voice and acts like a camera w**re.

  • she has a tiny white voice compared to Maria please!

  • @DanyelHawkes Callas is very tolerant to rhythm. And I'm really polite, because word "tolerant" is quite an euphemism here. Callas also skips too many tones of the coloraturas. I understand, that not everybody is a confessor of singing technique, but Callas style (ie recompiling the song according to instant state of mind and lungs) simply isn't my cup of tea. Moffo is significantly better (despite I don't like her overacting), Sills is even better and Deutekom is unbeatable.

  • !!!!!!!!! :)

  • This divine soprano left us already four years ago today ! (9th march 2006 - 9th march 2010) and we still look at all her youtube contributions and enjoy her voice.Isn't that amazing and nice for her? See this youtubefilm from vaimusic with over 70.000 viewers!! Anna Moffo will never be forgotten, will only be more appreciated the further we get in time.

  • What an amazing Voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bravo!!!!!

  • she's the best of all! brava

soprani ! Te lo ridico cambia pagina

  • mah...

  • I grew up to this:)

  • Technically, Moffo was superior to Netrebko and Fleming although the voice itself was not as beautiful as her successors. She was gorgeous to boot. One of the greatest American sopranos, very unjustly put down these days.

  • I think in her time people used to dump on her for her lack of great coloratura technique, but that was because of the other amazing sopranos around. But you are right she is WAY better than Netrebko and Fleming..... combined!

  • I believe Moffo made a film version of Traviata (late 50s?) in Italy. I have seem clips from it and her performance is truly spectacular. I agree that in her prime she was one of the best Violettas ever (as well as Manon). By the way, I LOVE the jewels and 60s high fashion in this TV appearance. Moffo could pull of high fashion like few others (opera or otherwise).

  • WOW! Fabulous.... One of those rare performances when being left 'breathless' by the performers art and passion, is the highest compliment which may be expressed!

  • Her coloratura was brilliant. Some have criticized her technique. I disagree. Without amazing technique, she could not have sung like this. But she did push too hard at times - beyond her natural limits - and that probably caused her early vocal demise. I heard her sing in the mid-70's and her voice was pretty much gone, at least the night I attended.

  • she makes that sound easy!

  • Wow. Gave me goosebumps.

  • God, she really nails that last note. She had such a short career, but it was a sweet one.

  • Anna Moffo is better than Maria Callas!!!!

  • you'e kidding...right?

  • I'm sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about.

Anna was good but there is only one "DIVINE"

  • well at the end of the day, it's just opinion...

  • yes, yes...ok...

  • @jackarturo2904 to your ears maybe ;-)

  • @jackarturo2904 BahahahahahahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahahaahahaaaaaaaaaa

  • @jackarturo2904 Absolutely

  • @jackarturo2904 non esagerare!!!

  • @jackarturo2904 non esagerare!!! comunque splendida

  • @jackarturo2904 heyy u can't compare maria callas with anna morfo...MARIA CALLAS had a unique voice...she is called the QUEEN of Opera....!

  • @jackarturo2904 You can't compare them, two different voices. But I admit I've heard Anna Moffo singing better than this. Still, she's a favourite.

  • @jackarturo2904

Moffo had a more conventionally beautiful voice than Callas in the roles they both sang but she was without a doubt influenced by Callas in her interpretation of Violetta, Lucia. I think in her hey day Callas gave the most exhilarating performances of Lucia I ever heard. The Callas voice was a unique instrument. Moffo possesed a great voice too. They were both good actresses, good musicians, glamor Divas and great stars of the Opera. we can enjoy both without comparison.

  • Jolie femme et jolie voix! choses rares à notre pauvre époque!

  • funny voice but fabulous

  • This is great singing - period.

  • Moffo is great, but what is WITH the costume? She looks like an astronaut's wife. What, no capri pants?

  • Anna Great coloratura, but, Callas is Callas

  • i find a little too much portamenti but i like very much her tone colour.

  • Her 1960 trav recording on rca is even better then this

  • Judith Blegen remembers seeing Anna as Violetta, and said to herself, 'Judy, you're never going to sing Traviata'. Ellen Shade also saw that performance and said she couldn't get over how gorgeous she was. Anna was Violetta.

  • She is perfect!

  • i don't like her running notes. it seems to have no overtones.

  • She is purty. and really good.

  • I saw Anna Moffo toward the end of her singing career and was saddened by the toll her unbalanced emotional state had taken on her voice. BUT, I loved her singing in many of the early years, and she influenced my entire perception of opera in an extraordinarily positive way...a true artist of deep and meaningful interpretation of operatic roles not known before her.

  • Anna Moffo is the best Violetta period, better than Callas. She had class, beauty, intellect and a fantastic voice. She was also a great actress of the opera. I love this woman! And it's sad that cancer ended her life in 2006

  • @AmericanEvita Not cancer, insult as I know

  • That's the truest statement I've read all day. Why is it spam?

  • I don't know which comment you're referring to, but the usual reason is because the word spam is right next to the word reply.

  • Visually appealing and vocally lovely. Her technique was always solid. She, in many ways, was the ideal Violetta of her day.

A redécouvrir !!

  • Simply Beautiful, what color in her lyricism...just gorgeous!:)

  • Great singing, I've heard and seen on dvd the live recording of La traviata (by Verdi)where Violetta is portrayed by Stefania Bonfadelli, amazing actress, not so excellent singing as Miss Moffo here but quite recomendable...

    Has miss Moffo died?

  • Yes, she died last March.

  • not only a very handsome lady, but also the most greatest voice in the opera history. Callas eat your heart out!

  • yes very beautiful and a fabulous voice, but there is one who is better and will live forever too: Jeanette MacDonald she died young at 61 or so but she was the quintessential epitome of voice but there are singers for everyone but alas the good ones are gone but long live their meomories

  • Jeanette and Anna were both from the Philadelphia area. Maybe there is something in the water.

  • La Moffo! Doing her thing and kicking ass at it! Lovely!!!

  • She was only 3 years older than Luciano. Wonder if they ever sang together.

Beautiful, vibrant, organic, a wonderful singer.

  • Yes, freespiritQC, she sang La Boheme in the early 70's with Luciano, but he was just starting to reach his peak and she was past hers. She also sang an opera with Domingo when he was even younger.

Among sopranos who were also stunningly beautiful women, she was by far the best singer of them all. Sorry Netrebko fans.

  • Thank you for the info Milordvega.

And don't be sorry for stating the truth...

  • Indeed, she was pretty enough to be a movie star, and her voice was the most beautiful of all the sopranos I've ever heard, in my opinion...along with Caballe's.

  • We seem to have the same taste. Love Moffo and Caballe.

  • They did sing together, one of the performances was La Traviata.

  • She was superb in all she did.

  • Staggering to consider, isn't it, that this aired on prime-time television on NBC?

  • Wonderful. She was never less than perfection.

  • Awesome! I just wish she'd milk the diva parts more... the high notes and cadenzas... It's a soprano's right, haha!

  • Her dramatic temperment, vocal color, and flair were truly one of a kind. There will never be another Anna Moffo.

  • Staging and camera work are kinda neat...

  • I especially like that she is completely in character, even for this short tv spot. Brava, Anna.

  • wow, i have never heard this aria song so beautiful and this is the first ive heard of moffo...she was fabulous.

  • I've never heard this aria better!

  • she's really good, I wish he had some more video

  • i love how fast she takes this

  • She was the prettiest opera singer of her day.

  • She was one of the most beautiful opera singers EVER!

  • O my GOD, I love me some Moffo!! i wonder how old she was when she performed this?

  • She was born in 1932. She is about 30 here.

  • Beautiful...perfection.

  • Perfect...as always...
